A list of puns related to "Visborg (town)"
The residents were left high and dry.
Not necessarily all of them, mind you. There are some who move to them and embrace the atmosphere and culture they have, who want to change nothing about them and those, I have no quarrel with at all. I'm more referring to the ones who are basically moving to them to escape the mess of the cities they've helped create.
Now, most small towns are more or less perpetually frozen in time. There may be newer cars and trucks moving through the streets, but aside from that, you could easily mistake still being in the mid to late 20th Century. And that's the way many of us who live here like it. We like the old style atmosphere, the fact that nothing really changes, the quiet, peaceful air they have. We like the mom and pop shops and garages owned by the same families for almost eighty to a hundred years, the local coffee shops and small malls and bookstores, and on the coasts, the long lived fishing docks and plants. We don't care for high priced chain stores or coffee shops like Starbucks or any of that fluff. Now, not all like that, but those who don't simply move away to a place they like better, and we're fine with that. You live how you want where you do, and we'll keep to ourselves.
That is, until the type of city folk I mentioned above decide to flee to small towns. They don't integrate. They have no connection to the small town lifestyle, and they have no connection to the place's history, and thus care nothing for preserving it. They bulldoze historic buildings that are not under preservation status yet for the ugly modern aesthetics they created in the cities, they force the mom and pop shops out of business by bringing in the very high end and high price chain stores and coffee shops none of us wanted. They end up raising the prices of houses and apartment rent, forcing many of the families who grew up for generations in them out. They fundamentally change the town forever by changing the laws and regulations through sheer mass in their votes. They effectively destroy how it used to be and create a mini version of the place they just left.
And what could be the worst part of the whole ordeal? They stare with upturned noses at those of us who were here either our whole lives or long stretches of it. They have the air of superiority of being upper class city dwellers, self assured in the knowledge that they are better than us backwards plebians. They scoff and say with smug expressions that they're making the place better, that they know best, and how

My name is Chuck Marohn, and I am part of (founder of, but really, itβs grown way beyond me and so Iβm part of) the Strong Towns movement, an effort on the part of thousands of individuals to make their communities financially resilient and prosperous. Iβm a husband, a father, a civil engineer and planner, and the author of two books about why North American cities are going bankrupt and what to do about it.
Strong Towns: The Bottom-Up Revolution to Rebuild American Prosperity (https://www.strongtowns.org/strong-towns-book) Confessions of a Recovering Engineer: Transportation for a Strong Town (http://confessions.engineer)
How do I know that cities and towns like yours are going broke? I got started down the Strong Towns path after I helped move one city towards financial ruin back in the 1990βs, just by doing my job. (https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2019/7/1/my-journey-from-free-market-ideologue-to-strong-towns-advocate) As a young engineer, I worked with a city that couldnβt afford $300,000 to replace 300 feet of pipe. To get the job done, I secured millions of dollars in grants and loans to fund building an additional 2.5 miles of pipe, among other expansion projects.
I fixed the immediate problem, but made the long-term situation far worse. Where was this city, which couldnβt afford to maintain a few hundred feet of pipe, going to get the funds to fix or replace a few miles of pipe when the time came? They werenβt.
Sadly, this is how communities across the United States and Canada have worked for decades. Thanks to a bunch of perverse incentives, weβve prioritized growth over maintenance, efficiency over resilience, and instant, financially risky development over incremental, financially productive projects.
How do I know you can make your place financially stronger, so that the people who live there can live good lives? The blueprint is in how cities were built for millennia, before World War II, and in the actions of people who are working on a local level to address the needs of their communities right now. Weβve taken these lessons and incorporated them into a few principles that make up the βStrong Towns Approach.β (https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2015/11/11/the-strong-towns-approach)
We can end what Strong Towns advocates call the βGrowth Ponzi Scheme.β (https://www.strongtowns.org/the-growth-ponzi-scheme) We can b

Not cities just towns.
For me its Doncaster. It's just so grey anyway, weather is never that great and just feels uncomfortable as soon as you enter.
No hate on the people, just the aesthetic of the place is so numbing.
I'll start: Linus owns or owned JoJa Corp. He left it all behind when he had an epiphany about what it was doing to the world. He conspired with Grandpa to bring you to the valley and works behind the scenes β even risking life and limb to save you when you pass out in the wild β to guide you toward defending the town from his monster. The company was too big for him to destroy but at least he can save this quaint little town.
e: thank you all so much for your creative and hilarious responses β I love this community. Thanks, too, for all of the awards. I didn't know the Iridium Star was even a thing! I am most grateful.
My wife then backhanded me and told me to stop making such a racket.
UPDATE: I spoke with Stacie after work tonight and it was tough. She saw this thread and was upset that I brought it to Reddit and allowed strangers to judge her. She also acknowledged that what she does is wrong and said she is working on it, hasnβt been with anyone in awhile, and she βhas issues no one understandsβ. She said that more than anything, sheβs hurt because I really thought sheβd sleep with my husband despite not trying to do so in the over 15 years weβve all known each other. I brought up things sheβs done in the past that has added to my discomfort and she insisted that it was innocent and she never meant anything by it. She said sheβs going to leave permanently because she doesnβt feel welcome knowing she isnβt trusted and she doesnβt want to stay where sheβs not wanted. She went silent for what seemed like forever, then said, βI think you did the right thing. If the situation was reversed, I would ask you to leave, tooβ, then says again that she has issues and sheβs not sure why she does it. She started to cry and I told her that whatever sheβs going through can be worked on and she can talk to someone who can help her sort out her feelings and give her some insight and she said she would work on herself. We hugged it out and I told her Iβll be here for her while she works through it all.
(36f) live with my husband and child. My best friend, Stacie (37f) has been staying with us the last few weeks while her home undergoes renovation.
I met my best friend in college and we are pretty opposite when it comes to a lot of things. Sheβs far more carefree, particularly with men. She loves dating committed men. Wives, fiancΓ©s, or girlfriend, she doesnβt care and will pursue βfor the thrillβ. There have been a couple occasions where sheβs been confronted publicly by spouses and she just laughs it off after the fact.
Although she can be a bit flirtatious, sheβs never actually done anything totally out of line with my husband, but she has with the boyfriend of a mutual friend. Now the issue! I am going to Las Vegas in a couple days and Iβll be gone for 5 days. I told her that I would prefer if she stayed elsewhere while I am gone. She asked why and I told her it is because of her history of going after men in relationships and I wasnβt comfortable with her there while Iβm gone for so long.
She got really defensive, hurt and started to cry. She insisted that she values our friendship and would never violate that, but I held firm and said

Throwaway account.
Yeah so some context is needed here. My(30M) wife (31F) has had some serious relationship issues with her late husband, apparently he was a big adulterer. Like potentially sleeping with my wife's sister, not sure how credible that is but I'd like to believe my wife.
Just the other day, my wife told me about a dream where "she was mad at me for doing something" half playful, half sort of serious but whatever, she has those I'm guessing from the previous relationship.
At some point it came up that husbands/fathers occasionally look at porn, and I said thats pretty normal. She looked at me funny and I casually said "Well yeah, I did the other night at the hotel..."
Since this admission she has told me her self confidence is shattered and she feels really really bad. This morning she wanted to rehash it and she told me she basically can't trust me anymore.
Keep in mind, my wife is GORGEOUS and is an amazing mother to my 2 daughters and an incredible wife.
I just don't know how to fix this and am hoping someone can offer some advice.
Thank you.
TL;DR I looked at porn at a hotel out of town and admitted this to my wife, and said her self confidence is shattered.
EDIT: Definitely not looking at porn anymore. I want my wife to know that I care about her feelings and I think thats the root of the issue as opposed to masterbation.
I will be looking into therapy, I think that would be good for her. Neither of us have a ton of friends, so having that 3rd party entity might be really helpful.
UPDATE: Alot of good advice on here and I appreciate all of the responses, truly. Wife and I are continuing to communicate and she seems open to therapy - which I'd be happy to reciprocate - so we'll see where it goes. I love my wife dearly, and don't want to continue to do something that causes her pain - however accepted by society it is, and I think there is validity in that.
