In John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), the Sommelier wears a tastevin, which is used to judge the color and maturity of a wine in candlelit spaces. While it’s not typically used in modern wine making, it’s worn as a nod to the traditional wine making practices.

My dress is a non-traditional color. Should I warn my guests not to wear orange instead of white?

Hi Weddit! I know the traditional dress code for a wedding is not to wear white, as the bride will be wearing white. My dress is very very bright orange, and I’m not sure if I should warn guests or not? I designed our wedding invitations and at the bottom there is a small silhouette of a couple kissing, but I made the dress in the silhouette the same color as mine will be, and I’m wondering if that’s enough of a clue. I think it would be highly unlikely anyone would wear the same color as I’m wearing because it is incredibly bright, but it is possible. We’re already including some information about suggested dress in our invitation suite due to the location we’re in (we’ll be getting married at a campsite, so we’re warning people to be comfortable and not wear heels or clothes they couldn’t sit at a picnic bench in) so there is a good place to mention it in the invitations if we choose to. I’m not really worried about it for myself, as I think it’s already unlikely that people would wear that color as it’s unusual already, but if I showed up to a wedding wearing the same color as the bride I might feel a little awkward about it.

For context, the dress is this one by Teuta Matoshi.

Edit to add: here’s the invite minus identifying info

Whenever I see someone on the streets with something out of the β€œordinary” (I.e: an extravagant/ costume-like outfit or a non- traditional hair style/ color), I like to go up to them, compliment them on that aspect, and move on with my life.

The world being a harsh place, embracing your full self in public without worrying about people’s negative looks is a really hard thing to do. Someday I will also do so and wear that sparkly see-through top and walk down my street feeling hot as hell, but until then I will encourage others to do and celebrate it whenever I see it. Do you also do something small like that ? Tell me, I’m curious. :)

Edit: Thanks for everyone’s input, it made me smile like a happy pitbull hehe. Now I truly hope this post does not come off as bragging about my confidence, I am still mentally growing and am realize the power of self recognition. You reading this, you are awesome, you have qualities and skills that many don’t, you absolutely deserve recognition for your hard work and celebration for your beautiful self. Time to bring some positive light into the world ! Have yourself a fantastic week and thank you for reading!
