Saw the ballast tamping traincar and was reminded of this: The ballast washing *train*. It pulls up the rails and picks up the ballast, sieves and seperates broken pieces and dust to discard, and then replaces the ballast and the tracks, all while driving. Saw it on a kid's TV show here in Germany.

Portable with ballast on tracks?
So im working on a side project along with my main table. Id like to make a pair of 4x8 tables to take out to local train shows and display. If I roadbed and ballst the tracks what would be the best way to make everything between the tables seperate but not look strange where the track break is? Would the ballast stay down if the track was removed? Im kinda stumped

Can we use limestone rock as track ballast?
Hi,
Are there any specs that approve the use of limestone rock as track ballast?
We are biding on the construction of a railroad, and in the specs, they request to use ballast rock, but in the area we only have limestone.

This is my first LEGO MILS module! I'm building a winter village diorama. The db-gray and red tiles are part of a track ballast. It will make more sens when there will be several modules connected.

This scene is really coming together, love making these clips of my trains running through it. This time an NW2 pulls a short train over fresh ballast. Added some details between the road and track to give it a less sanitary look too.

Evidence of what used to be a 3rd track at Susteren station. As you can see the ballast is still there and the catanary masts are a lot wider than the platform.

And time to add the ballast after connecting the track more βpermanentlyβ. Zip ties for the LGB track, and....can I say I hate Aristo Craft track - thank goodness for magnets...tiny little hex screws for the Aristo Craft track.

Picked up a sabot which someone had closed in the knifeboard (proper name?). I was hoping to turn it into a small rowboat for fishing in bathtub lakes. The problem is with no keel or ballast it won't track straight and is tippy as hell.

Started building my garden railroad. Track was free, came from a family friend years ago when he tore out his railroad. Ballast is crushed rock from a local quarry, all other rock is scavenged from rockfall along the local highways. Lots to do, and much more investment$ needed to cross the footpath.
