I started up my binge of A24 films this past week, but I've had to stop after a few films because they're just too heavy, disturbing and basically leave me all bummed out.

Fair Warning: This is me just rambling about where I'm at in my movie watching so I might not actually provide any substance, opinion or much insight about anything, so read at your own risk.

A couple months ago I started this project of going through the entire A24 library, filling in the gaps of their films I hadn't yet seen. At first I went chronologically as they were released which gave a nice mix of genres from film to film.

A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, Ginger & Rosa, Spring Breakers, The Bling Ring, The Spectacular Now, Enemy, Under the Skin, Locke, The Rover, Life After Beth

Stylistic musical comedy, intimate drama period piece, art house sci-fi, psychological thriller, emotionally strong, but still light-hearted coming of age, absurdist horror, single character driven drama, dystopian gritty drama, etc... Each film unique and different from the last in tone and feeling. Also, I loved every one or at least appreciated them on some level for what they were and delivered. I did enjoy them all. Then I abandoned the project and just went back to watching whatever I wanted when I wanted for a month or so.

Then this week I started the viewfest back up except instead of picking up from where I left off chronologically I typed in "A24" in Netflix (cuz most of the catalog is still on Netflix) and just started at the top of the list of the one's I hadn't seen yet which resulted in marathoning the following films over a few days:

The Witch

Good Time

Moonlight

The Invitation

The Lobster

Now I'm depleted and don't want to continue cuz all these were pretty heavy and/or kinda big downers and just kinda took their toll on me. Not a single "feel good" among them, haha. I enjoyed them all (except 1) just like all the other titles I've seen, but this line up was just a bit much to digest in a couple of sittings. The Lobster was a black comedy at it's core, but just so serious and "matter of fact" in it's performances and so heavy in its bleak hopelessness that it left me feeling worse at the end than even Moonlight or Good Time which both at least had a nice upturn to see you off after all that long heavy haul. At the end The Lobster was the biggest emotion suck of all, imo. Yay for the happy ending, but also omg, what they had to endure to get there was brutal. So I'm kinda spent and now I'm looking at the next one on the list which is Room and I'm all like "nope", not ready to continue on this bummer trip. Maybe I'll watch Brie

[TOMT] House of leaves-esc internet journals

Picture this; me and my (now ex) partner are scrolling through the internet back in maybe 2019 or something- unless im getting my dates mixed up due to my dissasociation issues.

We ended up getting onto the conversation of the book "House of Leaves", and started looking things up about it, looking for a similar story since we liked the book so much. It was only natural, to try and find a book or concept similiar to something that you enjoy.

I do remember that we found.. something. A story about this guy who found out about this house with a horrible track record, and despite being told not to, entering the house anyways. Theres a couple email and text sequences in this whole thing about the guys experience, and from what i remember, he described the house as rather old and unkept, with no attention given to it in years.

I dont know if its my brain making things up, but oatt of me thinks i remember in the end the guy going missing, and not answering his texts or emails anymore, entering what seemed to be a fit of madness. Ive tried several search terms. "House of leaves-esc story" , "guy enters mysterious house story online journals" , etc. I havent found it again no matter what i do.

I dont have any leads as of now, seeing as a lot of the chats we had about it have been deleted due to me leaving the groupchats or just falling out with the person i found it with.

Anything you all can think of?
