A list of puns related to "The Thirteenth Floor"
I waitress at a pub. My normal working hours usually runs from 5pm till 4am. During work, I get a few touchy hands here and there but that's fine. Comes with the job. I can also accept having little sleep. That never really bothered me. But let me tell you, it is the journey home that really gets to me.
I live in a flat. This is government-owned public housing. These flats are built high (really high) because of land scarcity and they are really tiny spaces. Also, the lifts! The lifts up to my unit on the 10th floor are really dodgy. Smells of piss. Poor lighting. Given that this is a public flat, weird people loiter around all day.
Anyway, I noticed something really strange with the lifts last week. Every single day when I come home (around 4.30am) and use the lift, it would head up to the thirteenth floor before going back down to the tenth. It was really freaky. The lift door would slowly open ajar and stop at the thirteenth floor for around half a minute even as I repeatedly poke the 'close' button. I swear out loud, to myself, just to create a distraction...because I fear I can hear weird stuff if I don't do that. Sometimes, I just close my eyes because it is better that way. Otherwise, I would be staring down a very dimly lit corridor, empty corridor. But I am also secretly afraid that when I open back my eyes, there's a stranger beside me. The whole thing is just super creepy.
At first, I thought I must have accidentally pressed #13. But the second time it happened, I knew it wasn't me. I brushed it off, initially, as a lift malfunction. But when I checked, mid-week, with the lift maintenance company, they assured me nothing was off and, in fact, did a pre-scheduled testing and cleaning just a few days ago. In any case, their statement made me even more freaked out than usual so I decided to tell my mother about this.
Yesterday, I had my rest day and I finally got a chance to speak to my mom about it. At first, she brushed it off as the workings of some prankster. But stopped herself halfway and told me "but as far as I know, the 13th floor has no one living there". "Thanks for reassuring me", I said. I could discern a palpable sense of worry that she was trying to conceal. Something was wrong but I could not exactly pin point exactly what. "Its ok baby, I will wait for you at the ground floor every night and head up with you ok?", she told me gently. I resisted at first. Partly because, I too, wished for a rational explanation but partly also b

Okay, I know I posted this before, but I tried the previous suggestion of leaving the tower to reset the map and it didn't work.
To clarify, I accidentally used the small key on the wrong door and unlocked the door to the switch on the left side of the map instead of the one on the right. I can't find a second key and I'm basically stuck now.
If it helps, I'm using an emulator on my phone to play ST, the emulator is DraStic.
"Get out get out get out get out," Emma muttered under her breath as she walked as quickly as she could towards her car, the bookmark of the four-leaf clover clutched tightly in one hand, the other hand tightly clutching her purse.
She glanced down the darkened alleyway, her knuckles turning white. She never took this route usually, but desperate times called for desperate measures, and she would rather take the risk of meeting some unsavory people over getting cursed for the rest of her life.
The sound of water dripping down the pipes filled her ears, and she bit her lip, trying to keep the clacking sound of her heels on the cobblestone as silent as possible--an almost impossible task.
Her shoulder was suddenly jerked back by a hand, and she was faced with a pair of narrowed eyes and a sneer. By the dim light of the crescent moon that barely peeked down into the shadows between the two tall buildings, she could see the glint of a blade in his hand.
"Hello, pretty lady. How would you like to give me some cash?" The man leered at her, licking his cracked lips. She took a step back, her hand on her purse, and considered her options.
She could run, but she wasn't going to get far over the uneven ground, and even if she could, the cats were pouring in from that side of the city. She couldn't risk it. She had to move forward.
"You going to do it or not?" He stepped toward her again, the tatters of clothing on his back waving back and forth with his movement, making him seem more monstrous. He circled her, cornering her until her back was pressed up against the brick wall of the building.
"Haven't you heard the news? Someone's dropped 200 black cats in the city. You should be escaping!" she blurted out. Maybe he would panic and leave.
The man threw his head back and laughed. "My luck ain't gonna get any worse than this. I don't mind black cats. They make good company. You, on the other hand..." He reached forward.
She stood completely still, her fingertips trembling, as his grimy fingers covered in callouses caressed her cheek. "You can keep me company tonight, honey," he said, and thrust his pelvis forward into her leg. She almost puked.
Desperately, she fumbled with her bag, but it turned over, and the contents spilled over the floor. She slid down the wall and tried to grab her cellphone, but the man laid a foot over it. "That's a no no."
She was going to die here. She was actually going to die here. She desperately clawed at the ground for anythin
... keep reading on reddit ➡As the title insinuates, I just watched this film for the first time, without really knowing much at all about it. After watching, I think this is now in my top twenty films of all time.
While the premise and plot isn't so original now - not to spoil it but I could draw a lot of similarities to the recent Westworld series (and I'm assuming the 1973 film, yet I haven't seen it) and to some extent the Matrix series - it is still completely immersive because of the superb acting all around, the great sets and the mystery that runs throughout the film.
At certain points I was completely surprised and amazed, which is great because I think a lot of films made nowadays have to beget their twists and plot points immediately just to keep the viewer interested at the beginning.
I came straight here to recommend this film highly to anyone who may not have seen it, or who has been meaning to and hasn't gotten around to it yet. Go watch it!
I’m having a heluva time tracking down a copy of this in the US. Anyone have one they’d part with? I’d rather not pay for shipping from Europe but if that’s my only option I will.
Yet book publishers don’t seem afraid to have a chapter eleven...
Fairly minor detail here, but does anyone else not believe for one moment that there are only 12 doors extending from the crystal room containing "The Least" in Demonreach?
12 doorways... no, no way. This is a series on magic. There is a thirteenth doorway. The worst of the worst have yet to be revealed.
Good episode for the times =) on another note y'all hear about Pluto?
This book is spamming my insta and goodreads feed since last few days . As a die hard gothic fiction fan I am thinking of giving it a try. Will you recommend it?
Update: Finished reading it few days ago. I won't say it can be compared with "shadow of the wind" but it suits to be in the same league. Spookiness and historical tragedies , rich royal families. its all there. Writing is engrossing and catchy as well.
