Honestly this might not be the right place for this, but Iβm burnt out and desperate. Iβve been in childcare for over a decade. Have a bachelorβs in child development. Have literally only worked in childcare as an infant room teacher and now a private nanny.
Iβve tried applying for other jobs in the past β mostly things like call centers, which arenβt a good fit anyway so no loss there β and havenβt had any luck because I have no experience in any other sector. Employers donβt seem to find skills from childcare transferable regardless of how hard I try to sell them on the fact that they are.
Anyway. Iβm burnt out to the point that simply being at work causes an immediate and scary detrimental effect to my mental health. My stress is through the roof. I have no life outside of work because the physical and social aspect is so exhausting I need all of the time I spend not working to recover.
I would have bitten the bullet before now, but Iβm making about $20/hour in a MCOL area, and Iβm trying to save up to go back to school. Now with COVID-19, the service industry, which was my backup plan if I finally got the courage to quit, is getting hit hard, and Iβm too risk adverse to quit without something already lined up.
I guess Iβm just looking for any advice you guys are willing to share about job options that might be out there, or experiences you had moving to a different career, or even just some support. Thanks.
I know this might sound too shady or weird. But it happened frequently to me that the interviewer will casually asks about my parents occupation.
The thing is, I have a step-dad who is quite successful and my biological dad who died and didn't do shit in his life. So I always mention my step-dad's work but don't mention that he's my step-dad because it's kinda taboo in my country.
