A list of puns related to "Thames Water Ring Main"
I mean come on, I don't keep it Sellotaped to my face. Letting the phone ring twice then giving up does not count as "trying to contact me" I cant even get the phone to ear in that time!
Hey guys, I just recently fell and lost a ring on the road passing by the water pumps and going down from Sauder to Mercante.
If anyone finds the ring attached below please dm. It was a 18th birthday present from an old friend. Offering a $50 cash reward for anyone who finds and returns it!
Thank you!

I've been getting increasingly urgent reminders to reach out to Thames Water to get a Water meter installed. I've tried calling them but have been put on hold for over 15mins on two separate occasions. Eventually I just give up.
Should I even bother getting a meter or just get moved to a "higher access charge"? From what I can read online, it seems most bills go up post meter install anyway.
EDIT: Thanks for the responses! Seems like most folks had savings post the meter install. Main learning is if you have less occupants than bedrooms, the meter will probably save you money vs. the estimate. After a 40min wait on the phone with Thames Water I have a date for installation
To be fair to Thames Water, someone picked up the phone at 7:30am, which I wasn't really expecting. I'd quite like a shower though.
I've got a bit of milk and some OJ, but to be frank, if it doesn't turn on by midday I'm going to have to resort to drinking beer or neat cordial.
EDIT: Turns out my neighbour had a burst pipe and turned off the water in the street, not realising that we shared it with him. A man from Thames Water did turn up at the house at about 10:30 to tell me this, but I never got the call back.
I moved out of my old address in march. Thames Water confirmed my move via email. I recently did a credit check and turns out Thames Water did not stop my billing and old address and double billed me for new address.
They have now asked me to followup with the recovery agency to prove my exit from old address and move in at my old address and only then can they fix my credit rating feedback.
Any suggestions please?
So not sure if this completely the right place, but I have been without any water what so ever for over 6 hours now and am at the end of my tether to how to solve this.
I have contacted both L&Q (who I pay my service charge to as a homeowner) and Thames water.
I have a stopcock that is outside my flat (L&Q say this belongs to Thames Water so wonβt touch it), it is in an area restricted by a FB2 key. Thames water say that since no one else has reported any issues that it is L&Qs responsibility to fix it/ turn it back on/check itβs not the issue. L&Q tried to check it but say because it belongs to Thames water they wonβt touch it, and since I am a homeowner they wonβt get a Plummer to look at it.
Even if I got a Plummer to turn the stopcock (which I could just do myself , you donβt need a qualification to know righty tighty lefty loosey) they wouldnβt be able to access the area as itβs restricted plus I wouldnβt have a clue which one it is.
Apologies for the ramble but is there any advise on:
This happened 4 years ago and after 4 days someone at Thames water took pity on me and sent a Plummer out who spoke with L&Q and between them they resolved it.
Some donkey has put my mobile number in their contact details on their Thames water account and the only way to change it is for Graham Harrison himself to do it.
I tried calling and asking Thames to change it for me but I get a bit stuck when they ultimate ask me "and what is the account number and/or address for Graham Harrison"!!!!
I DON'T KNOW!!!
Turns out they were billing me for litres used (metered) as identical to litres that went down their sewer despite me watering the garden, building an extension etc. One call of 5 mins , no arguing or shouting and offered me a rebate, yet to find out total!
We moved into a new flat about two years and a half ago, and we missed the part where we needed to set up Thames Water account. We have just realised now by rereading the first email after we moved in.
We have never been notified by anyone saying that we were owning money to them or that those bills were not being paid. We don't want any trouble and obviously more than happy to pay what we owe.
What's the best way to tackle this? We are scared of having to pay fines for this, any idea about this?
Just so it's clear, it's a mistake from us for not properly reading the email from the agency when we moved in. I just want some help to fix this situation and pay back the money we owe.
UPDATE:
We've called Thames Water to explain the situation and we paid what was owed, which was about Β£800. No extra charges are involved. Apparently, it's something that happens all the time from what I've seen. We are happy it's been resolved now. Thanks for everyone's help!
Its been more than a month, I've called TW 9 times now and sent 2 emails and although they've admitted responsibility, they have now not turned up to repair it for the third time, with no reason given or any attempt to contact me. I've raised a complaint with CCW but they can't give me any guarantees of a time frame that Thames water have to act. The issues I have are 1. I can't park my car in my driveway 2. it stinks of sewerage in the front and inside of my house. Any other supplier would just lose my business but they have a monopoly. Would it be stupid if I get a builder in to repair the damaged manhole cover then take them to small claims court to be compensated for the cost? They've offered me 60 quid in compensation but frankly I don't think it fixes the problem I want to not smell sewerage when I walk into my house every day. Any advice is welcome here, I own the property, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

I called Thames Water again to ask for my tariff to be changed to the AHC. I talked to the agent and explained to them the contradictory responses that I was getting from Thames Water and that I believe they should change my tariff, since they themselves said that they cannot install the meter. The agent kept repeating over and over that they basically stand for what they have said before. I asked for the matter to be escalated to a manager if possible, all the while remaining polite, and he said it was OK but that I would probably get the same answer. He said able to get a call next few days from manager.
After that I followed your advice and went to the ombudsman website, But they said they cannot help with utility companies. However, they have a link to CC Water, and I called them instead.
CC Water basically told me to write a formal complaint email to Thames Water explaining everything and how I felt as well call my while also letting them know that I have contacted CC Water. I did exactly that and added one paragraph where I explain my disappointment in their ethical practices, as they pretty much locked me in that tariff, since no landlord would do any pipe work out of a Thames Water suggestion.
I got a call two days after that, it was somebody from Thames Water, and they let me know that my email made perfect sense and that I would be immediately changed to the AHC tariff, my bill would change, and I would get the difference back into my bank account.
Thank you so much for your help, I love you all. My new bill is around Β£22 a month. This takes a huge load out of my shoulders, so I am very grateful to you all ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
A bit of a long story but Iβll try to keep it short.
In April of this year I moved out of a shared accommodation I was living in with my friends and went to my home country for a while. In June I came back and started renting a new place. Today I just received a letter from Thames water saying that this is a final notice and if I donβt pay the 150 pounds owed theyβll register a default on my credit file and send the debt collectors. Knowing that I have all the bills paid for my current place and the previous accommodation I call them to ask what happened. They told me that this bill is for the previous place I lived in for a period between April and September. I told them that I wasnβt living there during that period but they said that no one was registered at that property at that time so they contacted the credit agencies and found out that I was figuring as still living there ( I havenβt changed my address as I didnβt have a UK address at the time) and opened an account in my name which I find a bit ridiculous. They said that to fix this I need to provide them with proof (utility bill) that I wasn't living there at the time but the problem is that I wasn't in the country for some of that period so I can't provide any proof. The only other thing I can do is to contact my previous landlord and ask him to take responsibility for that period of time which I have done but it doesn't seem like he's gonna do it. Also, I have paid the amount owed to avoid a default of my credit file and they said they'll reimburse that if I can prove I wasn't living there.
What can I do?
I am a student and really fucked up with my thames water bill. I won't try and bother you with silly excuses - I made a mistake linking my account to an email I rarely use and completely forgot to check. I mistakenly assumed it would be my flatmate who sorted our water bill out, but that was on me. Super silly and dumb. I know. Now I am just trying to see if there is any way I can salvage this. I have paid the bill (120 quid). If I call thames tomorrow and plead for understanding, will they be lenient and not file this with a credit rate agency? Anyone have any anecdotes stories of similar situations?
Does anyone know any more music like the outro to Thames Water? I wanna say itβs some kind of House but Iβm not sure.
I have a 2 bedroom flat. I am currently in the tariff that is based on the property value. I tried to apply for a water meter (as I use almost no water) but Thames Water concluded they wouldnβt install the meter unless the landlord βextend the pipesβ because of safety reason for the engineer that would make the install.
I contacted my landlord/property management, but they said βThames Water can do it if they want to install a meterβ.
Thames Water also refused to move me to the tariff based on the amount of bedrooms because βa water meter can be installedβ.
Now I am stuck with the most expensive tariff paying Β£51/month.
Is there anything I can do?
Just moved into a flat in London, and the flat is unmetered. I contacted Thames Water to say we have moved, and they sent me a Β£400 bill, so roughly Β£700/year (~Β£60/month). It seems they are charging me based on the "rateable value" of the property and then multiplying that by some factor.
My landlord does not want a water meter because it would involve them ripping out a wall to put in more piping, and I only have a 6 month contract so can't force him to install it. I called Thames Water to ask to put me on the "Assured Household charge" for people who can't have a water meter (and its cheaper) but they said no because no-one has actually attempted to install it.
Just seems like a massive joke, and a big incentive to waste water. I hardly use any water so Β£60 is quite a lot -- it's actually more than my energy bill!
Can anyone help?
I just wanted to let you all know about a recent Thames Water scam that's annoyingly clever.
My old flatmate received this letter (https://imgur.com/a/RqHZ0wh) to our house (she no longer lives here and I am the Thames Water account holder here) - she was suspicious and when she contacted Thames Water (through a phone number she googled herself) it turns out the account number doesn't exist.
The letter outlined two of her previous addresses, but obviously they don't know her current address (which they should if they were Thames Water).
The phone number looks legit but when you google it, others say it's a scam too. The URLs still belong to Thames Water, so they're obviously banking on lots of confused people calling them instead so they can take the money/credit card numbers.
I wanted to share as I reckon I would have fallen for this. Everything looks very legit, including the headed envelope. If I was being picky, I'd say the logo and paper weren't of great quality, but that's the only problem I could see.
Please keep an eye out for your vulnerable friends/family members - I reckon these scammers are going to get a few people with this!
Also, don't ignore the letter if there's a chance you could be in arrears with Thames Water - but FIND THEIR PHONE NUMBER YOURSELF!
Have a good day everyone! :)
Hi,
A couple of years back I had issues with my landlord who put water bills on my name without asking despite bills being included in the rent. I was contacted by Thames Water around one year later to ask about the money and I tried to explain them but there was nothing they could do to help me. Another year passed, we solved part of the problem but I still had around 500Β£ to pay this summer. Received my student finance last week, decided to end this story and pay since it couldn't be helped and woop: account closed. I can't see my bills nor pay them.
I wanted to contact them but ended up asking here first just in case someone had a similar experience.
Should I chase them? Did they forget about my bills? Or should I ask them in order to avoid potential troubles?
Thanks.
"This 1828 caricature shows a woman looking into a microscope to observe the monsters swimming in a drop of London water. In the 1820s, much of Londonβs drinking water came from the Thames River, which was heavily polluted by the city sewers that emptied into it. A Commission on the London Water Supply that was appointed to investigate this situation issued a report in 1828, which resulted in various improvements.
The five water companies that served the north bank of the river upgraded the quality of their water by building reservoirs and taking other measures. However, the people of Southwark (on the south bank of the river) continued to receive contaminated water. The problems were not solved until the 1860s, when London's present sewerage system was installed by the Metropolitan Board of Works (MBW) and its engineer, Joseph Bazalgette.
Between the appearance of this caricature and the completion of the MBW sewers, London suffered two cholera epidemics: in 1832 (part of the world pandemic of cholera) and in 1854. Looking at a drop of water though a microscope was a popular entertainment offered by travelling showmen who carried the microscopes around in cases on their backs. In this caricature, the showman figure in the extreme lower left corner raises his hat to a water pump and says: "Glad to see you, hope to meet you in every parish through London." The lettering at the top reads: "Microcosm.
Dedicated to the London Water Companies 1 - Brought forth all monstrous, all prodigious things, 2 - Hydras and gorgons, and chimeras dire. Vide Milton." The latter is a reference to Miltonβs Paradise Lost."
