This was a pretty speculative mod I made. As such, I welcome all feedback. Credits go to u/Careless_Demand5523 and u/campaigntrailaccount for their original 1980 code.
Also updates, in case anyone is wondering. I'm still going to write the Willkie/McNary code for 1940. If anyone wants to write the LaFollette and Davis codes for 1924, however, feel free. Those two aren't high on my priorities because the 1924 election is Cal's to lose. Also, I'm not entirely sure what John W. Davis even thought of half the issues of the day anyway.
I've thought about doing a couple alternate histories: 1936 FDR vs. Huey Long vs. Landon, 1940 if Willkie never runs, so FDR doesn't run for a third term. I'm thinking McNary vs. Wallace. Also 2012 if McCain won in 2008. These will definitely be down the road though.

Inside is a man and a woman and theyβre now barreling a narrow dirt road in the dark of night.
After less than a minute they come up on a bridge. But the car is going way too fast.
An hour later, the driver senator Ted Kennedy is back at his hotel room, sound asleep. And the woman, Mary Jo Kopechne is still in the car at the bottom of Poucha Pond.

THE CHAPPAQUIDDICK INCIDENT
On July 18, 1969 a group of political aids called the boiler room girls were attending a reunion party on Chappaquiddick Island, Marthas Vineyard, Massachusetts.
It had only only been a year since the assassination of Bobby Kennedy during his presidential run and after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 The future of the Kennedys political ambitions had fallen on the youngest brother Edward or βTedβ Kennedy.
The boiler room girls had been political advisors to Bobby Kennedy during his campaign but had now transfered their allegiances to Ted.
On the day in question Kennedy, along with his cousin Joseph Gargan and friends Paul Markham and John Crimmins who was Teds driver, had traveled to Edgartown on Marthas Vineyard to take part in the Edgartown Yacht Club regatta taking place on the 18-19 July.
Later in the evening they were hosting a cookout on Chappaquiddick Island, a 500 foot ferry ride across from Edgartown.
After taking the black Oldsmobile Delmont on the ferry across to Chappaquiddick, Crimmins drove Kennedy down Dike Road and across Dike Bridge to Tomβs Neck Point were the senator had a quick swim, then they drove to Lawrence Cottage, a secluded house Gargan had rented to host the cookout and reunion party. There Kennedy changed clothes while Crimmins made him a rum and coca cola.
Then the two traveled back across to Edgartown to compete in the Regatta.
Afterwards he made a stop at his hotel, the Shiretown Inn in Edgartown to change clothes before once again going to Chappaquiddick to attend the cookout.
THE OFFICIAL STORY
At 8:30 pm on the evening of July 18 the six boiler room girls arrived at Lawrence Cottage after leaving their hotel, the Katama Shores Inn in Edgartown.
There they joined Kennedy, Gargan, Markham and Crimmins as well as Ch
So one of the earliest mods I wanted to make was an alternate scenario in which Ted Kennedy successfully primaried Carter in 1980. On paper, Kennedy would have seemed like a strong candidate. He was the brother of a former President, he was well connected within Washington, and was at least somewhat charismatic. However, as you all know he had some skeletons in his closet. The biggest being Chappaquiddick. The reason I ask is I still feel that would be a fun scenario to make.
