A list of puns related to "Technical and further education"
With the delays in education as a result of lockdown, and the rise in unemployment due to constraints on the economy, now seems as good a time as any to have a think about government priorities in vocational/technical training.
Government spending plans are being thrown out due to the cost of furloughing and loans, but this issue is years in the making. The three reports below all make suggestions for action which would have to be adjusted but should in some way be pursued.
Though funding has fallen in the past decade in every education stream except Early Years, further education has seen the worst cuts.
> Further education colleges and sixth forms have faced the largest cuts in recent years. Between 2010โ11 and 2018โ19, spending per student fell by 12% in real terms in 16โ18 colleges and by 23% in school sixth forms. Following on from larger cuts during the 1990s and lower growth than most other stages of education during the 2000s, further education spending per 16- to 18-year-old is due to be only about 13% greater in 2018โ19 than it was about 30 years earlier in 1989โ90.
Spending on apprenticeships has increased, but before the election was expected not to do as much as it had promised:
> Specific spending on apprenticeships rose by 36% in real terms between 2009โ10 and 2018โ19. Despite this, the government still seems likely to miss its target for 3 million new apprenticeship starts between 2015 and 2020 by a wide margin.
Other spending though has fallen dramatically, apparently from the push to get more kids into university:
> Total spending on adult education (excluding apprenticeships) has fallen by nearly two-thirds since 2003โ04. This combines cuts of 32% up to 2009โ10 and 47% between 2009โ10 and 2018โ19. These cuts have mainly been driven by falls in learner numbers, which have fallen from 4.4 million in 2004โ05 to 1.5 million in 2017โ18.

Britain has historically spent less on technical training than other countries:
> The UK has one of the largest funding gaps between academic and technical education: technical students receive 23% less funding than academic students. > > Overall, the average spend of OECD countries is 16% more per technical student than per academic student. Funding per technical student in Austria is 26% higher than for academic students, and 37% higher in both the Netherlands and Germany. > > Technical education funding per student is

Section two of this law extends the various COVID-19 protections for GI Billยฎ students from December 21, 2021, to June 1, 2022. I did a 2,5 year long dual vocational education and training at a company after I failed my studies due to lazieness and depression. The company was very glad to have me, since I was the first applicant after 4 f*cking years for this position (and I already had completed nearly a full study course within their field).
I planned to stay there for a longer time, but the first two weeks were already demotivating. So it was quite a relief when I finally had a shift with the only other young coworker, who wasn't a bitter, angry bitch like the other women. So I thought. She talked about probably studying again and I told her about different courses she could apply for, because I just knew about this stuff....I just had no intention to study again.
A week later I was called into my supervisor's office, who was pretty angry with me for "spewing" around my "future plans". He asked me if I was stupid, because talk like that totally demotivates my coworkers and is apparently disrespectful towards them. Also: the company has no interest in me becoming further educated...
Remember: I had no interest in studying again and the coworker had lied to others behind my back.
I drove home in tears that day and hated everything about this company and all these shitty people there. After calming down I made a decision: I WOULD do this fucking course.
So I finished this appreticeship and was put in a very special job position afterwards. It was a special position because I was the only one in the whole company (700 employees), who could do it - no replacement. If I was sick or on vacation they had to sent my work to a contractor.
I worked this position for 1,5 years - just enough to save a sweet amount of money and start the study course about a month later. On the special day I went to HR in the morning, handed in my resignation and waited until my supervisor was informed. He came running during lunch, panicking, begging me to at least stay 3 to 4 month longer to train my replacement. We have a mandatory 4 weeks notice period and he told me, that this was just too short.
I said: "Sorry, but my studies start soon.".....and I thought: "lol, you'll be in for a surprise on monday, when I call in sick. For 4 weeks."
They bullied me for 4 years there and I literally counted the days for those 4 years until this day. I told my doctor that the bullying would increase now that I resigned and that I'm already depressed (both the truth). She understoo

There are countless issues that come along with being poor such as toxic/negative home environment and bad schools. This creates stress, anxiety, and depression which adds another layer of difficult to overcome to strive for success. I relate it to being in a hole you are trying to get yourself out of it. Where as being born wealthy is basically like being already on top of a mountain. The value of education here is paramount and I think I can hardly be overstated.
Is it a stretch that children of wealthy backgrounds do better in life is due to a successful foundation paved by their parents that has been built over time allowing for greater agility and execution. And then they are sent to great schools, where they meet children from similar wealthy backgrounds. This just creates a massive feedback loop of growth and opportunities.

I Live in Edmonton AB and have recently been laid off. Edmonton's market sucks right now for anything related to Geology, and Natural Sciences best I can tell. I'm having a very hard time getting another job, specifically been looking to get into the Environmental sector. I'm thinking of going back to get some form of technical deploma/certificate but want to make it worth my time and money as I'm already pretty heavy in debt from my undergrad. I graduated last spring so only have a year of work experiance after grad and it's more related to project coordination, and some geophysical field survey work. I have many years work experiance prior to university but it's more office and administration related.
Has anyone gone back for a tehnical related deploma, was it worth it? Do you have any suggestions on what may be most useful in this marketplace?
TL;DR I can't find a job and am bored, is it worth my time to go back for a technical deploma/certificate?
Hi, I am a 23 year old Indian looking to move to Canada for further education and then look to settle in Canada.
I have completed my Engineering and have 2 years of work experience. I am looking to move to Canada to study and eventually settle in the country.
What I am confused about is if I do a Ontario graduate certificate of 2 years duration, I understand that I will get 3 years of work permit post completing the program. What I am not sure is what will be the job prospects after the course and is this a good way to look to settle in Canada. Looking to do a graduate certificate course in data analytics.
Another option I have is I could do a Master's in India and then work for 3 years and keep applying in the meanwhile for PR.
As for funding the course and living in Canada, it would be funded by family.
Which would be a better way to increase my chances of getting a PR ?

Personally I think they shouldโve gone with Utah Western University (uwu)
There is so much handwringing about college costs, whether it is worth it etc, and there are plenty of solutions out there. I would simply like to cast my own asperation into the mix.
My proposal would be to formally split higher education into two strands. The first group, which would make up 80-90% of students, is essentially white collar trade school. These institutions would be cheaper, shorter, and would be student, rather than research focused. If I understand correctly, this is the role that community college plays in America, but it is seen as very much a second best option. I
The second group is for academic subjects. There would be no sports scholarships or stadiums, but there would be massive libraries. These institutions would be what universities were originally built for, to create and store knowledge.
This works because so many people go to university because they think it is a path to a good job, which isn't what universities are for. But because there are so many people baying out for this, they have to move their goals to accommodate, but everyone leaves feeling like they got a raw deal.
Countries that do this well, Germany. Countries that do it ok, the UK (Oxford and Cambridge are the academies, but the technical college stuff still has a way to go).
