There were a lot of apes in the daily discussion thread wondering why the DD by /u/leavemeanon was gone. Turns out they've deleted their account for some reason, along with their posts. TLDR:

The system is rigged in favor of HFT firms. Because computers are really good at finding derivatives for cheap to hedge sales for profit, naked short selling is no longer part of the system, it is the system, short term, over and over and over. ETF - Exchange-Traded-Fund -

This is a more detailed explanation than the rest, because ETFs are incredibly important to understand.

An Exchange-Traded-Fund is a fund who’s portfolio holdings is represented and traded on open exchanges via shares of the fund: ETF shares. Simply put, ETFs are hybrids between funds and stocks. They, like any fund, hold some portfolio of securities. And like any stock, they trade as shares on open exchanges. The fund’s portfolio is typically designed to track some index or sector. Thus, an investor with some opinion about the ETF’s portfolio can trade the ETF shares to eliminate some of the risks involved in trading single equities.

The price of ETF shares is determined at market value, based on their trading in the market - like any equity stock. We all remember what it was like when Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) came on the scene earlier this year. A lot of people were not sure what it was and probably, we have people still uncertain of what to make of it.

In a very simple definition, it's proof of ownership registered on the blockchain. While that may not mean much to some, it definitely asks the questions about how we intend to address digital ownership since copying digital works negates authenticity.

One NFT project that continues to get water on my palette is Ethernity Chain. The brainchild of Nick Rose, someone seemingly passionate about charity and social good has in my opinion, gone above and beyond in delivering some of the most amazing drops the NFT community has ever witnessed.

In the beginning was an announcement about an all star celebrity lineup to which most would feel were mere words to hype up the project. Boy were we in for a treat…

It started humbly by collaborating with BossLogic on Opensea. A drop that caused a crash of some of it's servers. Then came an Ode to the creators by Jason Heuser aka SharpWriter, the man that gave the world it's first Ninja Cat riding a unicorn. An icon loved by many used by Microsoft and worn as an apron by Jimmy Falon. This was nice and dandy but we didn't know Jason had never received royalties for his work. The collaboration with Ethernity went on to break some auction records and a few lines of code from Ethernity's website.

At some point people felt the Ethernity team had lost it, the market started seeing red. NFT hype train had gone bust and some started asking, would they pick themselves up, was this merely a hype, was money properly invested. The face of modern baseball had his drop and just like his home run two days prior, Ethernity community was buzzing with excitement. Indeed the Fernando Tatis Jr and Ethernity Chain drop was the pride of a nation.

Skeptics wouldn't back down with unfounded antics, but then they got hit with the world's greatest. It stung like a bee and floated off like a butterfly. The ERN community will remember this moment as the fight of the century, the Ali drop whose proceeds went to the Muhammad Ali foundation.

Ethernity Chain was always about the social good and brought in the fists of compassion for the first ever community made drop with people all over the world sighing on a canvas for Tony Hawk to grace with his skateboard magic.

I'm new to Arch Linux and I have recently discovered the existence of AUR helpers like yay. From what I understand, the AUR helpers are used to automate the installation and update tracking of software on the AUR that pacman doesn't track, as, from my understanding, pacman only tracks the official pre compiled binaries that are available for Arch.

What confuses me is why pacman doesn't handle something like this natively. What is the need to separate it into different utilities like yay?

ASIDE: For my own understanding, why are uncompiled packages distributed on the AUR anyways? If the package only has to be compiled to be used with pacman, then, well, why isn't it just compiled and distributed for arch? What is the purpose of leaving it up to the user to compile the software?
