She retired at age 65 mostly triggered by the fact our company closed and left the state that same year she never went back to work anywhere after that. She pretty much became a homebody as she developed some level of social anxiety herself due to various age related things along with financial difficulties that prevented her from enjoying life. She also never put the effort into try to stay fit. Not that you became obese or anything but what age has caught up to her due to lack of staying physically fit and now in her early 80's she's beginning to deteriorate.
Early Parkinson's along little physical activity over the years has made mobility more and more of a struggle. Getting in and out of the car, going up steps, getting up off the chair, getting out of bed, etc. These sorts of things are becoming more difficult for her.
And almost 3 weeks ago she had shoulder surgery for her torn rotator cuff and what was supposed to be day surgery and then and then outpatient rehab ended up being inpatient rehab. 6 hours after I brought her home from the hospital from the surgery she developed a lot of pain in that shoulder which was expected but was worse than expected. Even the Percocet they prescribed her for pain did absolutely nothing and that same evening she was an absolute agony to the point where she wanted me to call 911 because she wanted to go to the hospital.
Long story short they wound up admitting her to the hospital for 2 days and then deciding the best place for her would be impatient rehab. So two days after going into the hospital for what was going to be Day surgery she went into a rehab facility.
Almost 3 weeks later progress is slow and her mobility issues are becoming even more apparent because now she lacks the use of that left arm during the healing process and the struggle to just do basic tasks with one arm for her such as getting up out of the bed, getting off a chair, showering, etc.
All of this is making me realize that her independence may never completely return and not only does that worry me since it's going to put a big burden on me and her with a little ability to afford the extra types of assistance needed to manage an aging parent.
On top of that it makes me realize that event
