Shenmue is more comparable to social simulation games than say Yakuza

Shenmue has a real living, breathing world with magnitude interaction, it very well may just be one of the first simulation games of it's kind. Yakuza does not have that, I don't think it has a real time clock/day and night system?

The type of games Shenmue is like is Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley and the likes because of the immersive simulation in it's world. Just a thought. I mean it even says social simulation is one of it's genre in wikipedia

Favorite 3DS games with social simulation?

Basically a question from an antisocial :v

Have you ever felt lonely at some point and play your games to socialize with in-game characters even though they aren't real?

The games I tend to play to fill in my lonely life are ACNL, Rune Factory series, Story of Seasons and some Otome/Dating games such as Love+, Hakuoki and some more. Yes, I'm 'that' lonely....

What are your favorite games that you play to fill in that lonely feeling of yours?

Looking for business simulation games with a social-development aspect.

I like business sim games but I don't want to just stare at spreadsheets all day and think of my workers as just cold lifeless automatons. I want games where the employees or people you interact with have actual personality and character, and where I will actually remember their names and actively include them in my planning around their specific traits, strengths and weaknesses, and individual character.

Types of business sim games like this I have played before:

  • The Movies
  • Playboy: The Mansion
  • Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
  • Stardew Valley

I'm using the term "business sim" quite loosely here, it can be other genres but I like games where you are trying to run a successful business and make money even if they aren't strictly in the simulation category, they are simulating business. I'm not counting monster-killing adventurer or gun-toting mercenary as a business though for the purposes of this question :)

Looking for a short/sweet chill Simulation/Management game, any suggestions?

Been feeling burnt out on action games. Any recommendations for chill simulation/management games? Looking for something lighthearted like Ooblets (PC) or maybe something like managing a farm/restaurant/city or something of the sort.

I've already had hours sunk into Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley so I'd like recommendations outside of that please.

Currently have my sights on Spiritfarer and/or Littlewood but I'm not sure if either of these are what I should go for or if there are other better options. Maybe even a game with a tamagotchi-like gameplay maybe? IDK, but yeah, a short, sweet, Simulation/Management to cleanse my pallet would be great.

Relaxing Simulation Game That Doesn't Need Constant Attention?

Alright, this is a very odd and specific request, but I'm missing the super chill simulation/strategy games of the late 90s/early 2000s in a big way. It's hard to describe exactly what it is, but it's something along the lines of being able to sit back and watch things just go without worrying about imminent collapse or balance, and develop at your own pace. The aesthetic is also supremely important. Very calming games.

Chill Games For Cool People:

  • Stronghold
  • Tropico 1
  • Majesty
  • Sid Meier's Simgolf
  • The Guild
  • Black And White 1 (2 less so, but still the right idea)

Things that are not chill games:

  • Tropico 3 onwards
  • Frostpunk. Right idea, but Frostpunk is challenging rather than calming.
  • Reus. The constant need to keep balance even outside of timed modes kills any calming effect. And it's pretty light on development tbqh.
  • Stardew Valley and other farming/life sims. Calming, but it's not a "Sit back and relax" calm. It's very active/involved.
  • City management, like Simcity or Urban Empires. Too impersonal and focused on balancing everything just right.
  • Goal driven space-management, like Dungeon Keeper or Theme Hospital or Rollercoaster Tycoon. Too goal-oriented.
  • Grand Strategies. Too impersonal and conflict-oriented, even CK3.
  • Turn-based games, by dint of requiring constant input. Otherwise there'd be tons of examples I could pick from.
  • Idle games, oddly enough. I've always found them to have so much emphasis on the feedback loop that they're hard to enjoy as a calming game.
  • Walking or exploration sims. By dint of needing to explore/actively continue for anything to happen.
  • Trading sims, like Port Royale or Patrician.

Modern chill games I've found:

  • Banished, once you survive the first winter. I want something a little more aesthetic though.
  • Dawn Of Man, when you play with raiders off. I'd like something a little more people-focused rather than resource-focused though.
  • Grand Ages Rome. Light on the human aspect but I still played it to death.
  • Foundation. Unfortunately still janky enough to be stressful and need constant correction of problems that arise because of the AI/pathfinding stupidity.
  • Kingdoms And Castles, though it's still Early Access and somewhat barebones
  • Anno 1800, though late game gets very space-manage-y and unpleasant

Mixed Examples:

  • The Movies. Hindered by the need to click and drag every movie through its steps.
  • Prison Architect. If your inhabitants weren't such an unruly lot (and if

Hello,

I've started drafting a internet micronation with implemented UBI (a government simulation game).
There is going to be marketplace, education, jobs, crowdfunding, news, all that based on geolocation and independent currency (everyone will get 100 coins daily to spend + more if you are working, if you not use that coins, you lose it that day, and the next day is again 100 coins to spend + more if you are working).

I have this idea in my mind for way to long..

I rewrote the football game simulation engine to fix weird bugs and improve penalties. Version 2021.10.04.1133

Highlights:

  • In the live sim you see a flag thrown during a play, and then the penalties are assessed afterwards, including a bit more detail about yardage (like "half the distance to the goal" or whatever)
  • Teams intelligently accept/decline penalties
  • Better handling of multiple penalties on the same play and associated edge cases - sometimes they offset, sometimes one overrules the other, sometimes they overturn a turnover, sometimes they don't, etc.
  • Fewer bugs in weird situations, particularly involving turnovers and penalties
  • If there are still game sim bugs, or if the beta has new game sim bugs, I think they'll now be much easier for me to fix, so please tell me if you see one!

AMA: I'm Matt, the Creative Director for an upcoming game called Dreams Central which is a social entertainment hub in Dreams for PS4 & 5. We just launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project. Ask me anything!

Hello all! I hope you're well.

I am Matt, the Creative Director for Dreams Central, a social entertainment hub being built in Dreams on PS4 & 5.

Dreams Central is a vision I've had for a long time and for the past 3~ years I've dedicated my life to building a virtual world (with inspirations from PlayStation Home, Ready Player One's Oasis and Snow Crash's Metaverse) that caters to all types of gamers and gives people a virtual space to relax, play games, socialise and more.

Feel free to check out our announcement trailer from earlier this year. Since then, our team has been busy reinventing the project with new graphics and lighting, updated environments and more. Check out a preview of that here.

A promise I made to myself was to make this experience completely free to play with no microtransactions, subscriptions or premium currency. This is for the people with no catch and always will be.

After 3~ years of development, me and my small team have decided to take the crowdfunding route on Kickstarter to help us achieve the complete vision for our resort and theme park. We have so many exciting ideas and not enough hours in the day to see them come to life. With our campaign, if we're successful we'll be able to focus all our time on the game and hopefully expand our small creative team into something more.

Joining me on this AMA will be our community manager, Sam.

With that said, ask us anything!

EDIT: We're gonna wrap things up! Thank you all for joining us!! - Sam & Matt

FWIW, I found the simulations in this article very compelling. I know it's a difficult situation for a lot of us here. Many of us can't afford to stay home from work, and that is a real problem. However, whenever possible, please avoid non-essential interactions and spread the word (but don't spread anything else). Our health system doesn't have much capacity if this thing explodes here like it is other places...

I participated in a Social Credit System experiment: My Year in the Simulation

The way the world is set up, it wouldn’t function without people like me; people stuck in the cycle of poverty. With every high interest loan the banks provide, with every lottery company promising a chance at a win, with every check-cashing service, the monster continues to be fed. That’s the way life has always been for me and the good folks I grew up around.

I’ve worked a various assortment of odd jobs to help with my low income. I’ve done everything from chopping wood for families to driving elderly folks to the doctor to helping others rehearse for job interviews. So when I went to the Internet cafe to check my email, it wasn’t out of the ordinary for me to receive another odd job offer.

Dear Porter,

We would like to offer you an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime. I am the director of a company named Osiris. We are currently working to assemble a group of people from all over the world for the experiment of the century! The experiment will last for exactly one year and is of great benefit to the participants.

How would you like to live in a tropical paradise island, with a fully furnished new home and a regular salary? And to top it off: you would get paid a hefty amount just for your participation!

If you are interested, please contact us immediately so that we may get you started on the interview process.

From everyone at Osiris, we hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Dr. Pleitez, PhD. Director, COO XXX XXX XXXX

I didn’t have to think twice about it. I immediately called to find out how much exactly was a β€œhefty” amount of money. As it turned out, the amount was more than I could have ever imagined: $250 thousand big ones. This really was the chance of a lifetime for me. It was a chance for a different, better life. In retrospect, I should have known that there was something amiss. But poverty only offers advice in retrospect.

I was ecstatic when, after three full days of interviews, I was contacted by the Osiris team to let me know I had been chosen as one of the participants. As I prepared myself for the adventure of a lifetime, I had no idea what awaited me in that tropical island.

Before I get into my experience in the simulation, let me ask you a few questions:

How would you like to live in a world where you got what you deserved? Imagine a place, a society, where everything you say and do is not just evaluated but also rated by your government. In this world, everything you purchase, every movie you watc

I participated in a Social Credit System Experiment: My Year in the Simulation (Part 2)

P A R T 1

As much as mankind seeks a society free from all the pain and suffering that comes from disorder and violence, the seed that leads to all of this will always be there. So if one day, someone creates an algorithm to weed out only the best that humans have to offer, do be wary. The seed of disorder and violence will eventually filter in, it will grow and flourish and the algorithm will inevitably fail. It will always end this way. And that’s because we are the seed. And there is no escape from the seeds of mankind.

Osiris believed that it could fabricate trustworthy, reliable, happy humans using positive reinforcement and a social credit system. The researchers at Osiris believed that they could sell this concept to some of the most advanced nations on earth. But when I saw the young man throw himself from the fifth floor window, I knew the simulation was doomed. I knew other things had filtered into the system.

More worrisome to me, if I were to believe what the note said, I had already been kept for a longer period of time than what I had signed up for. And as much as I loved my life inside the simulation, I couldn’t help but feel like I was missing out on the real world outside of the island. It’s like being in a dream. As much as you love a good dream, you still want it to end. You still want to wake up.

Let me tell you a little bit more about the simulation. First, it is not a virtual reality world. At least, that is not what we were led to believe nor what we perceived when we first arrived to the island. The simulation consisted of Osiris watching, monitoring, rating and averaging everyone’s scores using its algorithm developed by Dr. Pleitez and his colleagues. There were 5 brackets within the point system.

HIGH / 5 = 2000 MEDIUM / 4 = 1500 NEUTRAL / 3 = 1000 LOW / 2 = 500 DANGER ZONE / 1 = 499 and under

Note: Anything below a score of zero required an immediate trip to the Osiris clinic.

When we all started out, we were each given 1000 points which made everyone Neutral / 3. From there, it was up to us to either increase or decrease the average as the scores were rated against each other. This meant that the score to reach a certain bracket was constantly changing. As time went on, all of the bracket minimums increased.

On a regular day, my points would be distributed like this:

Wake
