Born in Denmark, Hugo's family had a history of heart problems. His father died of a heart attack as did multiple of his ancestors. He had his heart monitored bi-monthly. And it appeared to be fine. He was a very healthy child, running around, having fun, and goofing off in school. And then he had a heart attack when he was sixteen.
He was at school when it happened, running to class when he felt like he couldn't breathe. He fell face down and felt like his chest was collapsing. His vision went black as the commotion around him drowned out his own panicked thoughts. A teacher attempted to restart his heart as another called an ambulance.
His family was terrified. He was only living thanks to a machine and it would be risky to put a pacemaker in him but someone came to them with a solution. A mysterious man approached them with a cannister that held something that could save Hugo, but at a high price. After paying the man administered the gas inside the cannister.
After his brush with death, he became a more serious and somber person. The one thing that he enjoyed during his hospitalization was cover music. He had to be discharged because machines began to go haywire. This was due to what he learned to be his stand γKickstart My Heartγ. He grew to enjoy the snake. Now in a new school, he planned to be on his own so his heart wouldn't get crazy. But then he heard it, one of the cover artists that helped him get through his recovery was singing.
He approached them but of course his heart was acting up due to his nervousness. γKickstart My Heartγ came out and searched for a place to safely discharge. But as it happens, the cover artist and her friends were all stand users and thought he was attacking them. Thankfully the misunderstanding didn't last too long as Hugo was able to get control of γKickstart My Heartγ and have it discharge into an amp.
Situation deescalated, the girls told Hugo about their dream, to become a pop group. Hugo realized they definitely had the voices for it but needed more control. They needed a band, someone to handle the electrical devices, and, most of all, management. While he couldn't bring the first two to the table he could bring the last. He offered to help manage the group and find them people who could fill the other aspects.

Sheer heart attack is a stand from JJBA that has survived numerous attacks from star platinum (can break through things as hard as diamond and most people accept is faster than light, can also stop time) and crazy diamond (somewhat weaker version of star platinum (without time stop). Sheer heart attack can trigger explosions and chooses its victims by sensing heat and was shown that the hotter the target, the larger the explosion. Sheer heart attack was never really defeated until its user died. However for the fight the user will be far away (as normal) and cannot be tracked by the opponent. They have to fight Sheer heart attack. Who can take it on?
