A list of puns related to "Set You Free (album)"
Get on that shit
A fair few years ago Biffy Clyro played 3 nights of gigs where they played songs off of 2 of their albums + b sides from those albums. If you had to pick one night to go to which would you choose? Following Biffy's format the gigs would be:
N1 - WPSIATIWIN and SIAS
N2 - FWN and AM
N3 - Humbug and TBHC
Only songs from that nights albums and respective b sides will be played but not necessarily all of them.
Edit: abbreviations are not a talent of mine
Well, having quite a lot of spare time,I decided to do a little overview of the Arctic Monkeys albums.I am a new fan, which means that some of the albums will be fully listened to for the first time for this exact adventure, but I'll try my best to give every album an unbiased look.
Today I will look at their scorching debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not". The fastest selling debut album in the British History, this is the album, which for some people was their finest hour, and there are a lot of solid arguments in favour of this sentiment.
Now,I will make some rules.I will list the positives and negatives of this album in my opinion and showcase my favourite songs, while explaining why they are so great in my eyes.
Positives: This album packs an extreme amount of the energy. The drums are incredible, guitars can be distorted and hard-hitting in one moment and be gentle in another, and every song has this flair of the youthful carelessness, which is irresistibly charming for me.Lyrics here are meant to paint the picture of the teenage life and they do an amazing job in that.
Negatives:After the first few listens my main problem with this album is that a lot of songs blend together because of the little variation between them. For a debut album this is easily forgivable, because you need to establish your style before experimenting with it,but it still lowers my level of appreciation for this album a little.
Favourite songs (in the order on the album):
1)The View From The Afternoon: The song greets us with fast and pounding drums and distorted guitars, which immediately gives you the good impression of what awaits you on this album. The lyrics are delivered with the same speed as the rest of track and describe in great detail the evening parties of the teenagers. In my opinion, this song is an excellent opening track and deserves to hailed as one of their best songs
2)I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor:The next song easily picks up the mantle of the opener and continue s to fire on all cylinders.Lyrics are somewhat simplified to better serve the song and their frustration perfectly compliment the instrumental assault. This song is electric and definetely will make you want to move, which is quite fitting considering the title. The song is a definitive classic and never fails to make me to bang my head to the its rhythm
3)Fake Tales Of San Francisco: This song is the point, where lyrics by Alex Turner really start to shine.Full of the cl

But what about the third category, the one that I think is probably much more rare. The artist who you've known and enjoyed for the bulk of their career. You own most or all their albums and think they're all pretty good. Some might be better than others, there might even be a stinker in there, but hey, no one is perfect, right? But among all the albums, there's that one album that just slams you with how damn amazing it is. Maybe it's just the perfection of the sound that the band had been playing for years and through whatever combination of elements worked better than everything else, or maybe the band decided to do something a little different this time around and it's an experiment that really worked.
What's that band-album combo for you? What album came around that you just couldn't believe how amazed you were?
Mine is Sleater-Kinney, The Woods. I'd liked S-K before. I'd even thought I was a late-comer to the band; I didn't know they existed until All Hands On the Bad One got pretty consistent play on our local AM college radio station. Bought the album, saw the tour, bought One Beat when it came out, bought the back catalog. I liked it all - the sharp edges on the guitar, Corin's wail, the competing lyrics, the personal and the political.
Then along came The Woods. Still remember the afternoon when the music editor at the paper I was at dropped the review copy at my desk, "You like Sleater-Kinney, right?" The tinny speakers on that old computer were not up to the task. Took it home and cranked up the speakers as loud as they could go. Played it three times through and still wanted more. It's still Sleater-Kinney, that's for sure, but Sleater-Kinney deciding to be louder and looser than ever. That midway breakdown in "What's Mine is Yours"? Shit, that's something that I'll let Carrie's guitar solo play out and then lift the needle just to hear it all happen again. If I ever get installed as supreme leader of the universe and need a song to play thunderously as I march up to the dias to gaze down at my subjects while they bask in my glory, it'll be "Let's Call it Love". Starts as a stomper, then we've got this b
