A list of puns related to "Sandworms of Dune"
I just finished all 19 books, most recently sandworms. Finally I can understand why some people hate on the BH books.

The golden path makes little sense.
It's supposed to make humanity not trust a leader to guide them anymore, but Duncan Idaho essentially still become leader of humans and robots. Although it's not an empire like structure, he has enough power to become an emperor, but humans would never accept him or anyone as emperor. But maybe because of Leto 2's cruelty, it clearly planted a lot of caution in duncan not to be corrupted by power.
The most sense I can see of the golden path is that due to it, the honored matres are created and it forced mubrella to unite the bene geserit with the honored matres. This unification is an inspiration for duncan to make the choice of becoming the bridge between humans and thinking machines. Thus able to see the pathway to everlasting peace and all the steps that lead to it. Maybe Leto 2 and Paul saw this is the best way forward?
If the golden path is to make duncan into superhuman by remaking it as ghola for so many thousands of years, it doesn't justify leto 2 being so cruel, he could just take care of duncan for thousands of years.
But say if Paul had become a kind emperor, and Leto 2 not become a despot, what would happen when the thinking machines finally attack the old empire? Leto 2 might still be alive as duncan wouldn't kill a kind emperor. Leto 2 can be guiding humanity to develop many weapons of war themselves over many thousands of years, but they wouldn't have obliterators.
Facedancers would still infiltrate the old empire, but leto 2 prescience maybe able to root out who is a face dancer and the evil intentions they would have.
Oracle of time would still be able to take away Ominous to another universe, leaving eramus to take control of the thinking machines. Leto 2 only has to send duncan to the heart of the machine empire for him to meet with eramus and become the bridge, although there would be not much inner motivation for duncan to do so, he wouldn't be reaching those decisions as independent human, but as a slave to prescience.
Hmm... maybe the plot required is that oracle of time doesn't know where the machine empire is at. She only is able to travel there because duncan is there. And the whole point of the golden path is to get duncan to the heart of the machine empire. The other gholas played relatively unimportant roles, so he could have saved decades if h

there are so many things wrong, but a question that seemed rather glaring, and i couldn't find any googleable answer to, is how, after explicitly being told that the machine fleet did not use foldspace or navigation machines, did they GET anywhere?
there is no mention of other FTL tech, no mention of "sleeper fleets" being sent out millennia ago (hell, they launch at the end of hunters), so how is it remotely possible that interstellar distances are crossed, not only in almost real time, but without any mention of method? no characters seem surprised, in fact, when chapterhouse was about to be attacked, it was again, explicitly mentioned that the sisterhood didn't know what direction the fleet was coming from.
i seriously dont know what is going on here. had the authors just said nothing, it would have been better off as some mystery tech, but instead there is an extended discussion about omnius not trusting the holtzman engines.
even if we assume that the machine fleet instantly started traveling at lightspeed (and magically there is no relativistic effects), that puts the entire dune universe (including the never once encountered machine empire) at, what, 25LY wide?
these sequels are so so so so bad, but at least the plot, the characters, the deus ex(es), could all be chalked up to the author's "style"
but how did something as glaringly simple as "space is big" slip past them, their editors, proofreaders, anyone??
please, someone tell me that at least somewhere this was explained, and perhaps i simply blocked it from my mind. even if a single line saying "they used superfuel" would at least be something.
ugh, seriously, the sisterhood DIDN'T NOTICE THE DIRECTION THE ATTACK WAS COMING FROM?
that paragraph was like "hmmm, can't see this armada of ships anywhere.... oh, there they are, moments later, and now they're in attack range"
the real question should be, why, after reading hunters ten years ago, and vowing never to waste time my time on these awful sequels, why did i do this to myself
Sorry if this has been explained before but i was just wondering what your thoughts were on Daniel and Marty(omnius and eresmus) and the Norma Cenva Dues Ex ending. To me the ending to the series only makes sense because of the prequel novels where we were introduced to these characters, What do you think Frank Herberts ending would have been like? I doubt he would have written a prequel series to flesh out characters to use in the last couple books.
Who do you think Daniel and Marty were originally supposed to be? and how do you think the series was going to end before all the prequel retcons and fill ins?
I purchased a copy of Sandworms of Dune from Amazon and it didn't come with a jacket. Does anyone out there have a scan or could make a scan of the jacket? It just doesn't look quite right on the shelf without one.
Interesting bit about this used book purchase, it was signed by Kevin. Not a big fan of his writing, but still thought it was neat.
Thank you!
This takes place on some sandy desert.
The Sandworms are integral to Arrakis. They are also described as being able to become absolutely massive in size. I thought the scenes in the first book with the Sandworms were thrilling. How do you imagine them? And how would you like to see them in the upcoming film of Villeneuve?
I pictured them a bit like this but with an intense heat coming from the insides of their mouths. Sort of like the Balrog in The Fellowship of the Ring.
Given that Villeneuve prefers to work with as few green screens as possible, I wonder if they decided to go with them being projected on screens. Which was also done in Interstellar and First Man, which both won Oscars for Best VFX.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 51%. (I'm a bot)
> TUNIS, Tunisia - Christian Bale, an actor known for dramatic transformations, has gained over 450,000 pounds to play a sandworm in the upcoming Dune remake.
> "People like to call me a method actor, but I'm just a guy doing a job," said Bale while swallowing entire chickens whole so he could reach his 480-million-calorie goal for the day.
> Bale went on to say a CGI sand worm, or "Shai-Hulud" as they are sometimes called in the film, would have looked fake and unconvincing to audiences.
> "Christian is a true thespian. He's never messed up his one line, a guttural growl I'll hear in my nightmares until death takes me, and he's never late to set. Even better, he's always polite to the helicopter pilots who carry his Lovecraftian sea of flesh to and from the converted warehouse we store him in. Consummate professional."
> "He's a star, baby," said Bale's agent, Greg Tucker.
> While Bale is known for wildly fluctuating from one body transformation to the next, he says he may keep the weight on for a while as he continues discussions with J.J. Abrams to play a Star Destroyer in Star Wars Episode IX. We've launched a brand new podcast network.

In the introduction section of basically every book they always mention how Frank never got to finish the book he wanted to write after Chapterhouse because of his untimely death, but I know all the Brian books have a sorta weird reputation compared to the originals and am unsure whether to start the Butlerian Jihad series or keep going after CHoD. What do you guys think?
Iβm sure Iβm starting to annoy you guys with my ever so frequent suggestions but I think there should be an addition of a few animals that would be smart enough to know when and who to avoid in a way that would make hunting them a challenge and have them feel more diverse doin it.
For instance I feel enderman did a great job at this, they canβt be looked directly at, and teleport whenever you get the better of them in combat. Plus the RNG of them suicide bombing into water makes it more interesting. But there should be more than just that.
Description
I think a good mob in the same spirit of an enderman would be the sandworm. Sand worms are normally passive and burrow themselves into sand. The sand block theyβre in is slightly discolored which makes it obvious which one they are. It would look a bit like a sandstone block hidden in sand. If you try to mine the block or get too close, itβll come up and bite you.
This isnβt like a silverfish though, these things will actually fling sand particles in your face to give you blindness for a bit if their health gets low, in that time theyβll find a new block, hide in there for a few seconds, and then attack you again.
Variance
They would have genetics much like pandas. Their genes are as follows
Aggression: The range you can get before it attacks. Ranges from only attacking if it gets mined, to having to physically walk on it, to 5+ blocks away
Self preservation: How often it will retreat to the sand to heal. Those that retreat frequently donβt heal as much, and those that donβt retreat often heal very fast
Size: Bigger worms can flick sand harder causing more damage, smaller worms can move faster
Color: Color is linked with health, meaning that worms that stand out more have more health, and those that stand out less have less. Health can range from anywhere between iron golem, and spider.
Popularity: the odds nearby worms will spawn to help it out. The catch 22 here is that if worms have high likelihood of being helped, the blindness effect might not shorter or even non existent, allowing you to see where they retreat to
Difficulty
The average sandworm will generally be about as fast and good at recruiting as a silverfish, as damaging as a zombie, with the health of an enderman but obviously the genes I mentioned can make some sand worms minibosses and some about as intimidating as a baby slime
Spawning
They only spawn in deserts. Not beaches, not underground. Only deserts, at a
