Lately I've been building up a collection of gothic, horror and weird fiction, mostly that of the early 1900s and earlier, and through the "The Collected Supernatural and Weird Fiction" collections I've come across a few authors I'm especially unfamiliar with. Some online research hasn't really given me any indication of whether they're worth acquiring, and I'd be interested in any opinions anyone might have about them.
The subject of today's post on the matter is Sabine Baring-Gould, who is noted for his non-fiction works on folklore. Regarding short-fiction, his "Collected" volume includes 'Margery of Quether, ' 'Mustapha' and 'a Professional Secret,' as well as a number of short stories. Has anyone read anything of his, and have any opinions on his quality and style?

Funny name. Reference to Curious Myths of the Middle Ages in a note to the prelude about a Frenchman who traveled to the New World to avenge hurts Spaniards inflicted on French. Or perhaps about Mithridates traveling north and becoming Odin.
