Current Accuracy: 2/3 Matches Predicted, 2/3 Matches + Sets Predicted
Well, I had a good time writing about the first round so I figured I'd take a crack at round two.
Lajovic vs Coric
Lajovic looked very strong against Daniil Medvedev [1], who Lajovic promptly dispatched 7-6(4), 6-4 today. Lajovic's backhand was on-point and his movement was exemplary. Coric seemed relatively strong in his opening clash yesterday, too. Ultimately, Lajovic is an extremely inconsistent player, he usually loses (badly) in early rounds, but occasionally he remembers how to hit the tennis ball and goes on a strong run. Coric can implode from time-to-time but he's a newcomer who's consistently treading water, never breaking surface tension but never falling deep into the pool of failure either. If this is one of those tournaments where Lajovic has remembered how to play tennis, which I think it is, then I expect Lajovic in three with a 3-5% chance of Coric in two.
de Minaur vs Nishikori
Wow. This is a fun match. I am really excited about this clash. de Minaur is another rising star, he's great but not amazing; his main talent is his speed, and Nishikori's main talent is his fighting spirit and showering skills.^(1) While I think a bigger hitter than Nishikori could take out de Minaur, I ultimately think that de Minaur will overcome Nishikori in three close sets.
Bublik vs Paul
Bublik, Bublik, Bublik. Bublik is on the up-and-up-again. Bublik reached an ATP 250 final last week, and another one a month before that, he just crushed Sascha Zverev [3] in straight sets, too. Paul is a mediocre player, he looked good against Sonego - who he bested in straight sets - but Bublik is a threat. Bublik's variety and power can make him tough for all but the big-game players. I expect Bublik to win in straight sets.
Fucsovics [Q] vs Bautista Agut [5] / Davidovich Fokina
If Fucsovics faces Bautista Agut, then I expect Bautista Agut to take the match in three sets. Bautista Agut has been playing pretty well recently, and even though he lost, he was playing great defensive tennis against David Goffin last week in the Open Sud de France final. Fucsovics in unpredictable, like many other players, he has occasional dream runs, but usually sits in the middle of the pack. I think Fucsovics can push Bautista Agut a little bit, but I ultimately expect Bautista Agut to win in three sets if Bautista Agut bests Davidovich Fokina in the first round. If Fucs

Medvedev [1] vs Lajovic
Lajovic isn't a bad player by any means, a fourth round showing in the Australian Open was very respectable and he has made some strong deep runs and has reached a Masters 1000 final. However, his opponent is the bullsh*t Russian himself, Daniil Medvedev - two time grand slam finalist, world number three, three time Masters 1000 champion, and the reigning ATP Finals champion. I expect this to be an easy victory for Medvedev. I expect Medvedev to win in straight sets.
Coric vs van de Zandschulp
Hypothetically this should be an extremely easy win for Coric. Coric is a top twenty five player, who has won multiple titles, and van de Zandschulp is a nobody, so to speak. However, Coric has been on a downward spiral, and running askant his downward spiral is his poor record on indoor hard courts. Add in the Dutch crowd and Coric might actually be in for a fight. That being said, I still think Coric will pull it off in two and possibly three of van de Zandschulp gets lucky, I expect (a) 6-4, 7-5, and maybe even 7-6 set(s). Coric in a shaky two.
de Minaur vs Millman
de Minaur is on the rise, and Millman is currently on the decline. I don't need to write a whole paragraph on this match because de Minaur is almost certainly going to eviscerate Millman in Rotterdam. Even if Millman were playing at his higher capacities, de Minaur would still pull out the victory barring a disaster or tank from de Minaur. However, Millman is not at his best; expect de Minaur in two.
Nishikori vs Auger-Aliassime [7]
Woah. That's certainly a vigorous match for round one of an ATP 500 tournament. Nishikori is a little bit over the hill, he is beginning his decent down the palisades (cliffs) of fatigue straight into the valleys of retirement. However, he is still near the top of the mountains of tennis, and he still has some strength left in his lean frame. More importantly, Auger-Aliassime is not a strong mental game player, and he is defending the runner-up position at Rotterdam in a very stacked draw. I expect Auger-Aliassime to win, but Nishikori will push him to a deciding set, at least he probably will. Auger-Aliassime in three (primarily mentally) tough sets.
Zverev [3] vs Bublik
As much as I like Alexander Bublik, Zverev is the heavy favorite here. Zverev is a top
