What do you think of it?
I was first introduced to Parkway Drive through Reverance and Ire about 3 years ago and I worked my way back through their discography. I actually don't hate Reverence and Ire because they were what I started with. However, like most people, I think that Killing With a Smile, Horizons, Deep Blue, and Atlas are all on a different level and are some of the best metalcore albums ever.
Since I'm assuming most people will say one of those 4 albums is their best, which one is the best and why? I think Deep Blue is the best but I can't really explain why? I think I just like the riffs slightly more than the other ones and more of the songs stick out to me (although all the songs on those 4 albums are bangers).
Shameless shoutout to the guy that just made a thread like this for ERRA. Recently remembered just how good Parkway Drive's first few albums are, and was curious to see how many people agree with my #1. The riffs are just so damn good on KWaS. (Not including Don't Close Your Eyes although it does have some jams)

Alright y'all. I've been a huge Parkway Drive fan since Horizons, seen more than a couple of live shows from them, and have been awaiting this album for quite a while now.
Let me preface this review by saying that I wholly support bands that are progressing their sound, and perfecting their craft. I'm not one of those "A7X sucks after Sounding the Seventh Trumpet!" people. What you're getting here is a review not from a metalcore purist, but from a Parkway Drive superfan and music lover of all genres.
All that said, after finally being able to listen to every song the whole way through, this is what I've got.

Track 1: Wishing Wells - While the lack of a dedicated intro song is notable, Wishing Wells more than fills the void (pun intended) left. UNTIL I'M DONE!!!!! is a great way to establish the anger and overall dark tones the album is sure to bring. For a solid track with lots of anger and an "unhinged" sound that we've never seen from PWD, an 8/10.

Track 2: Prey - Aaaaand what happened here? This song completely breaks whatever flow Wishing Wells hoped to establish. The lyrical unoriginality shines with lots of repeated phrases, a boring song structure, and what feels like a weak attempt at a forced anthem. Had it not been for the "YOU BETTER PRAY!!" break later in the song, it would've been even worse. Still, that one break isn't worth suffering through an uninspired track with no purpose behind it. For lack of originality or inspiration, a 6/10.

Track 3: Absolute Power - The truth drops like a bomb here. Parkway is best in their native element. Absolute Power is heavy, the main riff is interesting and jam-worthy, the verses harken to Crushed, and the chorus makes you want to run through a wall. The best Parkway is a Parkway with energy fueling them, and this song had that purpose behind it. For the best riff on the album and a solid setlist staple, an 9/10.

Track 4: Cemetery Bloom - It's not so much a song as it is an interlude. Winston delivers some dark lines over a somber tune to add to the darker feel of the album. It's not a standalone listen, but it helps you to remember what this album's truly about. It's about making the best of what you've got. For keeping the album on track, 7/10.

Track 5: The Void - And here we go! A driven, dedicated rock song, headlined by Winston's gravely verses, Ben's powerful snare and a singalong chorus that'll get everyone moving. Is it metalcore? Not even close. Is it catchy, and still a GOOD

For me personally this, along with McCall saying ‘After 5 years I can finally say I can sing — previously I had screams, low screams and high screams, but now I can sing which adds a new dimension’ makes me fear this record is even more disappointing than ‘Ire’ is.

Hey all, showerthought about this a couple of minutes ago while listening to Reverence.
Quick story, when Reverence released the 4th of May I listened to it all day long for a week. It was a blast.
At first I was afraid and kinda scared, but the more I listened the more it grew on me. Songs like The Void and Prey never really got me at that time.
Now it's the 9th of July and I have not been listening to Reverence for over a month.
Until now.
Fuck, I was in the shower and all the songs kicked ass. I jumped in the shower (sorry mom, but fuck off) to Prey and I sang my ass off during The Void.
So I guess my point is that this album, for me, is fucking incredible.
Also, something that really fucked me up when it was released was all the hate it got. It got to me, guys. All the shit lots of people said about it, dadcore etc... It got to me. I believed it.
FUCK THAT SHIT
Make up your own mind, I am glad I did that in the end.
What do you guys think now? Has the album grown on anyone else?
This might be a pretty useless post because fans will most likely go anyway, but I just got back from Parkway's show in Manchester and I just want to give my quick impression because I would not like anyone to miss it.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Reverence at all, except for a few songs. Considering that they were going to play a lot of songs off it on this tour (duh), I thought I might not go (never seen parkway before). I'm SO glad I decided otherwise.
Their show was absolutely fucking amazing. So much energy, pyrotechnics, flames, fire and whatnot... Even the songs like Writings on the wall, The Void, and (especially) Prey which I don't even like were a fucking blast.
So yeah, they might not play a lot of stuff off Horizons, Deep Blue or Atlas (one from each if I remember correctly) but they put on the best fucking show on this planet. Don't be a dummy like I nearly was and go see them.

I'm so pumped and wanted to share with everyone that Parkway Drive added a new date on their Reverence tour. Saturday, September 15th at the Sands Bethlehem event center in Bethlehem, PA. Which is attached to a casino!
Parkway Drive released their sixth album ‘Reverence’ yesterday and this is probably the last one I’ll ever review from them. They’ve turned into a Five Finger Death Punch, stadium rock wanna-be band and it’s not just me saying that, the band literally said they “outgrew” metalcore.
So with that, I say goodbye to Parkway Drive. You were one of the metalcore gods, a true pillar of the genre, but you haven’t made good music since 2012, and have truly forsaken us with this release. I’m sure you’ll still headline tours and bring decently heavy bands with you, but you’ll still occupy that top spot that bands like Wage War and Ice Nine Kills can never take until you finally disband, and that is really the biggest tragedy of this whole thing.
I still remember when “Dark Days”, the first single on ‘Atlas’ came out, and blew everyone’s minds. It hit a million views in a day and I can’t believe PWD didn’t realize they hit their peak with that sound; it was so mature, and while it was different than their earlier records, it still had all the elements that people always loved.
On ‘Reverence’ you get “Wishing Wells” as the first single and it’s like Winston just heard King 810 for the first time and thought “yeah I should do that but worse”. I was still optimistic though because there are some solid 30 second sections that were decent. And then they crushed all that hope by releasing “The Void” which is the absolute definition of stadium rock.
Look, it’s not just that the music sucks, it’s that this album is lazy. It’s only 10 songs and two of them are essentially interludes. Cemetery Bloom is a 3:30 lead up to The Void filled with talking as the band attempts to give the album some kind of atmosphere. The other one is the outro song, which also only has talking and is supposed to give the album some power, but is so bad that people are just going to skip it. I guess that means the album ends with “Chronos” which is the only positive thing this release has going for it.
The worst part is that every song in this album has something that makes me cringe. The first minute of “Shadow Boxing” is apparently Winston’s entrance into the rap game and I’m just trying to imagine how anyone thought this song was acceptable. It’s like a mix of Winston seeing if he can pull off clean singing, out of place symphonic elements, and a drop every 30 seconds when the band realizes they can’t actually continue making rap.

What happened to parkway drive after this amazing album?
Anyone a fan of Parkway Drive? I wasn't that much into them, however, listening to this new album, it has epic vibes. Really dig it!
