Republic of Yucatán (1840-1848)
[Event] Presenting the Constitution of the Yucatán Republic
Mérida
September the Fifth
Having been given the task of creating a Constitution for our Republic 8 months ago the Constitutional Assembly has now laid the finishing touch on their assigned task. The result is a charter which would largely guarantee the civil rights of the citizenry and ensure the integrity of our democratic institutions. As well as concerning itself with more practical matter such as the number of Representatives in the Chamber of Representatives and location of the Capital and relevant ministries.
The 1841 Constitution of the Yucatán Republic has been presented to President Méndez and all that is required now is his signature for it to go into effect.
Constitution of the Yucatán Republic
-
The Yucatec people are equal before the law, whatever may be their personal fortune and rank.
-
They contribute, without distinction, in proportion to their fortunes toward the expenses of the state.
-
They are all equally admissible to civil and military employments.
-
Their personal property is likewise guaranteed; no one can be prosecuted or arrested save in the cases provided by law and in the form which it prescribes.
-
None to be molested for his religious views, and those who come to settle in the country, as their descendants, have secured him the public and private exercise of their respective religions.
-
The ministers of the Catholic religion, professed by the majority of the Yucatán, and those of the other Christian sects, receive stipends from the state.
-
The Yucatec have the right to publish and to have printed their opinions, while conforming with the laws. The censorship is to be considered unconstitutional and can never be established.
-
All property is inviolable, without any exception for that which is called national, the law making no distinction between them.
-
The state can require the sacrifice of a property on account of a legally established public interest but with a previous indemnity.
-
The conscription remains an obligation of all the Yucatec between ages of 18-42. And all those eligible may be called for service for a period of no-more than three years. He who is called for service may be permitted exemption if they provide a fitting substitute. The method of recruiting for the army and navy is determined by the law.

Then in 1846 the Republic of the Yucatan takes advantage Mexico's preoccupation with the United States and attacks taking most of southern Mexico (up to the state border between Puebla and the state of Mexico).

My results as a mutt. I think the indigenous Americas results are a little off because I have a close full blooded native North American relative and a bit more distant relative who was from the Andes but no evidence whatsoever to have any Central American DNA (from Mexico or Yucatán peninsula)
