In the year 1483-1484, the Sultanate of Malacca fought the great army of Dai Viet (old name of Vietnam) around the reign of Alauddin Riayat Shah (1477-1488). In Chinese Ming annals, the war was called the Lan Xang Wars. Lan Xang is an old name for northern Laos and at its peak, it is one of the biggest empires of South East Asia and famous for its fearsome war elephants.
The Malaccans called the Dai Viet Orang Koci or Kuci, derived from the old name of Dai Viet, Cochin-China.
Le Thanh-Tong, the greatest Le Dynasty Emperor, worshiped as a hero by the Vietnamese today
According to Mao Qiling, the greatest Le Dynasty Emperor of Dai Viet, Le Thanh-Tong / ้ป่ๅฎ (1442 - 1497) sent 90,000 troops to invade Lan Xang but was defeated by the Malaccan troops sent there with 30,000 dead as casualties. However, the Chinese history records did not describe the order of battle, disposition, placement, and strategy of this particular fight so there is no hard evidence. There is a dispute about when it happens too.
It began shortly after the 1471 Vietnamese invasion of Champa, then already a Muslim kingdom. The Chinese government, without knowing about the event, sent a censor Ch'en Chun to Champa in 1474 to install the Champa King, but he discovered Vietnamese soldiers had taken over Champa and were blocking his entry. He proceeded to Malacca instead and its ruler sent back tribute to China.
The tension begins during the reign of the great Malacca Sultan, Mansur Shah when the Malaccan diplomatic corps was hit by a typhoon and stranded at Dai-Viet shores. The Malaccan Admiral at that time, Bija Rana was on the way home after a successful mission to send gifts to the Chinese Emperor in 1469. Admiral Bija Rana was mentioned in the Sulalatus Salatin or Sejarah Melayu as one of the

How Punjabis became Muslims is an often ignored topic, in fact the entire genre of Punjabi Muslim history is neglected by Punjabi Muslims themselves. Without an in-depth analysis because it deserves a post of its own, this is due to the watering down of Punjabi identity with roots in colonialism and facilitated by certain elements in the state post 1947. The amplification of regional identities within the Punjabi sphere which had no conception pre-1950s and still cant articulate who they are is one example. So, how did Punjabis become Muslim? I try my best to illuminate the process which lead the residents of Panchnada to the Muhammadan faith.
Arrival of Islam:
If we are to look to Indian subcontinent as a whole, Islam arrived right during Hazrat Muhammad S.A.Wโs ย time, a companion by the name of Hazrat Malik bin Deenarย R.A. himself arrived on the South Indian West Coast. However, since the focus is Punjab, Islam in Panchnada or the Greeks called it Penta Potamia came with Muhammad Bin Qasimโs invasion in which Sindh along with parts of Southern Punjab were annexed into the Umayyad Caliphate in 712 AD.
Upper Punjab was introduced to Islam via Mahmud Ghaznaviโs invasions against the Punjab based, Hindu Shahi dynasty. After the state was finally subdued and Ghaznavid state formally established in Punjab is when we see a formal introduction of the Deen. Ali Hujwiri (1009-1077) who is popularly known as Data Ganj Bakshโs migration from Ghazni, Khorasan now the modern nation state of Afghanistan to Punjab in order to carry out missionary work marks a watershed moment. He wrote the Kashaf-ul-Mahjub which is regarded as the oldest Persian treatise on Sufism in Punjab & his mazaar is in Lahore.
Forced Conversions:
The common misconception is that Muslims in subcontinent converted due to fear of the sword. The narrative makes it appear as if conquest = conversion, but it is a false belief. For instance, after Muhammad Bin Qasim annexed Sind and parts of Southern Punjab at age 17, his administration was full of Hindu Brahmins due to their experience in governance and familiarity with local political climate, which made them invaluable to the Arab conquerors. The conquest of Multan was welcomed by the non-Hindu groups particularly the Jats (not-Hindu), who had been oppressed according to Lane Poole. Majority of population of Sindh was Buddhist and had no intention of defending their homeland for a Hindu sovereign.

However, the court asked them if they had revenue records and oral evidence to establish possession of the land. โHow can we prove after so many centuries that Lord Ram took birth at the place?โ the counsel asked.
To this three people claimed that their families descended from the Hindu deity. Lakshyaraj Singh of the erstwhile Mewar royal family claimed that his family descended from Ramโs son Luv. He said Luv established Luvkote, or present day Lahore, and then his descendants moved to Ahad, which is now Mewar, to establish the Sisodia dynasty. Rajasthan Congress leader Satyendra Singh Raghav claimed that the Raghav Rajputs had descended from Luv. BJP MP Divya Kumari had claimed that her family descended from Ramโs other son Kush.
However, itโs not just Kshatriyas (Rajputs are a subset) who have come to link themselves with the Ramayana in order to appropriate some of the glory of the great epic and its even greater hero, Ram, the most revered prince of the mythical solar race, Suryavansha. Valmiki, the non-Brahmin bard who first narrated the Ramayana, is himself claimed as an ancestor by a number of caste groups who call themselves Balmikis and are spread across the north and central regions of the Indian subcontinent. Composed over a period of nearly 800 years (500 BCE- 300CE), Valmikiโs Ramayana is considered one of the first (the Buddhist and Jain Ramayanas belong to the same period) versions of the epic, and is the basic structure around which countless retellings have sprung across languages and regions. Arguably, the most famous retelling is Tulsidasโs Ramcharitmanas which was written in the late 16th century. Significantly different from Valmikiโs, it spawned a new set of Ramayanas that were localised and contextualised to fit the audience.
The Ramayanaโs conversion into a divine or holy text began in the second millennium CE. It was looked upon as a fable to emulate, a utopia to fight for and a template to consolidate kingly power, especially when it is incipient. It gave the Indian kingship a template of an ideal divine-king as Ram being an avatar of the god Vishnu was both a temporal king as well as godhead. And, even though the Ram cult took a long time to gain a stronghold in the Indian subcontinent, once it captured the imagination of kings, it becam

The bottom three of the B-Divison are relegated to the C-Division. The Martyrs Memorial A-Division League was inaugurated in 1954, as a continuation of the "Ram Janaki Tournament" started by the autocratic Rana Dynasty in the 1930s. The 2021 season of this competition will be it's 44th edition.
The season runs from November to March, with games being held on friday evenings and weekends, in a round-robin format. There are 14 teams participating in the league this season. Out of them, 13 are based in Kathmandu valley, while Manang Marshyangdi, who are also the most successful team in the league, is based in Pokhara.
The schedule for the first two Rounds has been released, and the matches shall be held in the Dasarath Rangashala, and the ANFA complex. There are plans to hold few matches in the newly upgraded Pokhara Stadium, and the recently built Chyasal Stadium as well. Some matches can be viewed on Kantipur Television.
The inaugural match this season was played today, 19th Nov, between Friends Club and the newly promoted Satdobato Youth Club. The game ended as a goalless draw.
With the intro being done, I'd like to add my own views about the coverage of the game. There are NO football sites that covered the match live. Not ESPN, not SofaScore, not OneFootball, not anyone else. A few betting sites had minor details, but that was about it. The website of the ANFA still shows the table of the 2019/20 season. GoalNepal.com shows the score, but no details, despite being one of the prominent sporting news websites in Nepal. I'm thinking of partnering with some of my friends to get a sports news site that actually updates stuff, might update y'all on the progress a few months later.
If you'd like to see the matches, I'd recommend downloading the NetTV Nepal app, and viewing the games on Kantipur TV. The Scheduling is as follows:
Fridays: 4:45 PM Nepal Time, i.e UTC 11:00
Saturdays and Sundays: 1:00 PM NPT for the first match i.e. UTC 8:15 AM, and 4:45 PM NPT for the second match
English is not my first language, so I am sorry if there are issues with formatting. If you want any more details, feel free to comment or DM.
EDIT: I'm thinking of making match threads for a few major games if there's a proper webpage showing lineups and stats by then. Hope y'all can support Nepali football internationally!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
After a very competitive and split primary, Astronaut Commander Carlos Rosales has beat out Georgia Governor Stacy Abrams in what is the closest Democratic primary in the history of the party. In order to help the party unite back again after the division seen in the primary, Abrams joined Rosales and endorsed him at a unity rally in his hometown of McAllen, Texas, along the US-Mexico border. He will become the first Hispanic and Mexican American presidential nominee for any major US party. At 45 years old, he will also be the youngest US presidential candidate since John F. Kennedy. Due to his strong ties to the region, Rosales is hoping that his candidacy will help revert the Rio Grande Valley back to being a solid Democratic area rather than the swing area it currently is. He hopes that his strength in the RGV will help flip Texas back to blue and help put him over the edge in the presidential election. On the Cold War front, Chinese forces have reached Taichung City and have been met with heavy resistance by Taiwanese and American forces. Unlike in the battle of Santa Clara in the Cuban Civil War, the Chinese forces are struggling to break into the defenses that have been set up by US forces. In legislative news, the BAR Act (Ban Assault Rifles Act) has narrowly passed both the house and senate. While the bill is expected to be vetoed, it remains sitting on interim President Youngkinโs desk. In order to counteract the extremist narrative of the GOP, Youngkin has decided to delay the billโs veto in order to make it a wedge issue in the presidential election. Most Democrats, such as presidential candidate Carlos Rosales, are in support support of the law. Youngkin now has an issue to attack the likeable Democratic candidate on. Even though interim President Sununu is currently unpopular, he does hold continue to hold strength among suburban voters. Rosales will need to choose a VP that can excite both the base and win back voters who voted for the GOP in 2044. Rosales will also need an experienced VP in order to help compensate for his lack of political experience. If Rosales gets elected as president, his VP will be essential in helping him make decisions on the US-China Cold War. Who should Rosales choose to be his VP nominee?
Potential nominees:

Sununu-Youngkinโs popularity dropped just as quickly as it rose after Election Day 2044. Being eager to take on China and to slow down their progress in the Cold War, the Sununu-Youngkin administration announced in a televised speech from the Oval Office that the US will begin to bomb military bases throughout western Cuba, which is currently being occupied by pro Communist, Chinese backed forces. Sununuโs military strategy in Cuba became aggressive. This escalation was done in order to finish involvement US in the war so that the administration could focus on what it deemed as a more pressing matter, the invasion of Taiwan. By doing this, however, they lost sight of the on the ground impacts their actions would have. Even though there was a conscious effort to avoid civilian casualties, many civilian casualties still occurred since Chinese backed forces held makeshift bases all throughout populated areas of cities and in historical sites. The western half of the country is still smoldering and much of the cities in this region will remain uninhabitable for months and even years. While the bombing campaign finally brought an end to the Cuban Civil War and to Communist rule in Cuba, the backlash against the administration was massive. Cubans across the country protested in the streets, lamenting the loss of relatives and of the cities they once knew. The UN has condemned the United States and the USโ reputation across the world has greatly suffered. Many viewed the bombings as unnecessary and rash. The US blockade that was instituted by the previous Warnock-Wu administration had seemed to be doing its job, with resources in areas occupied by pro Communist forces being predicted to be depleted by the end of the year. Due to his unpopularity and looming impeachment, President Chris Sununu resigned less than a year after taking office. The once popular governor will now live in infamy as a result of his short, ill fortuned presidential term. VP Glenn Youngkin will become interim president and has announced that he will stay in office and run for a full second term in 2048. He has publicly said that he was against the bombing campaign from the start and had no part in its planning and execution. President Youngkin has announced that US forces will remain in Cub

I am a frequent lurker in this sub, a Hindu who went through a Muslim phase. In this post, I want to discuss about the problem of existence of Muslims and Islam in India and how complicated it is and how all of this affects ex-Muslims in India (rather than just ranting like other Hindus).
Let's talk about theology. In Islam (and other Abrahamic religions), idol worship is absolutely forbidden. The whole point of Abrahamic religions is to destroy idol worship in every way possible. God of Abraham is an angry egoistic God who wants to destroy idols, idol worshippers or burn idol worshippers in hell forever. In contrast, in Hinduism, one true God is said to manifest itself everywhere, even within you, and can take any form so idol worship is not forbidden at all. Rather for common people, idol worship is encouraged so that they can visualize the intangible incomprehensible abstract God and worship him/her. However, idol worshipping is such a taboo in Islam that cutting idol worshipper's head off is often seen as deserving.
Now let's talk about History. After Muhammad died and Caliphate started trying to take over the world, they were met with resistance in Indian subcontinent. Several Muslim invaders invaded and plundered Indian cities and villages and destroyed many idols and temples (like Iqtiyaruddin). After these invasions, Muslims started settling in India and there were succeeding Muslim dynasties changing Indian social fabric and demographics. These Muslim dynasties, like others, would often engage in war among themselves. Fast forward to 16th century, Babur came and defeated both Rana Sanga (Hindu ruler) and Ibrahim Lodi (Muslim ruler) and paved way for the famous Mughal Dynasty, which again brought many changes in how India worked. Then British came, defeated every ruler Hindu or Muslim, then left India after multiple revolutions against them, while Muslims, because they couldn't stand kafir rule and hated us, broke India into 2 pieces and eventually into 3 - Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. Now, we have Kashmir which is a disputed area with mostly Muslim population who hate us Indians (because we are kafirs) and wants to break India into another piece yet again.
Now comes the narratives. In the traditional Congress-Marxist narrative, Muslims and Hindus have lived in India throughout the millennia in peace and harmony and that whatever damage Hindus faced (like destroyed idols, temples, forced conversions, etc) were mostly political (because they a

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
