Prolotherapy Injections

So I just scheduled an appointment at a regenerative treatment facility to get prolotherapy injections.

In case you aren't familiar with prolotherapy, it's basically a form of alternative medicine. You get injected with natural harmless irritants into areas of injury or disease, and your body sends cells to quickly respond to that irritant. Once your natural immune response is there, it begins to clean up the irritant and will start to heal whatever else that could be wrong in that area. It basically draws attention to your natural healing process. They are commonly used for sports injuries and back/neck pain, joint pain, etc. Online reports suggest 80-85% successful response rates. The downside risks appear to be minimal. Note that these treatments are generally NOT covered by insurance.

I'm going to get these injections for my neck and shoulder, as they have been areas of concern after getting FLOXED by Cipro. (Cervical hernias, degenerative changes, pinched nerve). I will post updates as things progress, wish me luck!

First day of prolotherapy

I went for a digital motion xray after three doctors said I didn't have ligament damage (without even checking) and they found significant ligament damage in my neck. Not a huge amount but I was asked if I was in a car accident. I wasn't. I think I did it from lifting heavy stuff with bad form. Anyhow..

Went in for prolotherapy as it's been a year and my neck feels weak every day, hurts every day, and I can barely do anything without hurting it further (like can barely do the dishes or my own laundry without straining my neck some and then also the tinnitus gets louder). The procedure was scary. Laid down on a table and got 4 injections on either side of my spine from c1 down to about c6. dextrose, b12, and ozone solution. It wasn't as painful as I thought it was gonna be though. I get acupuncture sometimes and that's easily twice as painful. I won't be worried next time I go in. Also it cost about 900 dollars. But hey who needs money right?

First night the ringing started to sound different. Different humming and ringing. Got a little quieter. Woke up in the middle of the night with bad visual snow when looking at white walls. It was nuts. But that went away in the morning and hasn't been back since. Noise level returned to what it was. I didn't expect fast changes because anything permanent is gonna be from my ligaments actually repairing, and that isn't going to happen in a day or two, even with prolotherapy. Muscles don't even repair that fast. Some of the liquid went down into my shoulders on the first night. I was told that's normal. They inject the fluid into your muscles around the ligaments (or maybe directly into the ligaments? I forgot to ask), but tissue is not a sponge and seems reasonable that some of the fluid is gonna move around under my skin. Mostly it stayed where it was injected. I can still feel when I press on my neck, squishy and makes a bubbly sound when I press on it.

Thought I'd share because I've never seen people say what it's actually like.

Intense visual snow after prolotherapy injections in my neck

My neck is screwed up. I got a digital motion xray and they found all sorts of ligament damage. And it's been a year and it's not really improving. I can barely do the laundry. So I look up prolotherapy. Seems legit for ligament repair. Got 8 injections in my neck and that night I wake up and go to the bathroom. Walls are white, and light is dim. It's like I'm looking at a old tube TV without any signal And every second the black dots would pulse and get really excited and then slow down for a second. Really excited for a second, then slow down for a second. I guess it was alternating with my blood pumping cause that's about my heart rate when I'm in bed (or just got out of bed). In the morning it went away. But I dunno thought it might be useful to have this info. My c1 is out of alignment and I have neck ligament damage, muscles are constantly holding on for dear life around my c1, chiropractor tested reflexes last month and said my brain stem is getting squished. So I dunno if the added pressure of the prolotherapy liquid in my neck also put more pressure on the brain stem or what. I have had mild vss in the middle of the night before, but this was like 10x worse. I also have tinnitus and it too is affected by my heart rate. Like the slower my heart rate the worse the tinnitus gets. Faster, the quieter. If I do cardio for a while, tinnitus stops. It's not mild tinnitus either.

Has anyone tried Prolotherapy for their neck?

Hello,

I am a 24M who was involved in a car crash roughly a year ago, sustaining a neck and head injury since.

I haven’t quite felt the same since, with some symptoms including daily neck pain and tightness, sensitivity to light, lightheadedness and overall not feeling like myself.

I have already tried to tackle the cognitive aspect to this, thinking I might be dealing with post concussion syndrome, and now I’ve been trying to get my neck better.

I had a cervical MRI come back with 3 real mild bulges at C4-C6, but something just doesn’t seem right with my neck. My neck cracks a ton and is constantly tight

I pursued a digital motion X-ray thinking I had ligament damage or cervical instability, and the report says that I do. I’m scared these ligaments won’t heal and I’ll be stuck with these symptoms for the rest of my life.

I’ve read about Prolotherapy as a treatment to damaged neck ligaments and wanted to hear some feedback or personal experiences. I’ve read about Caring Medical and will NOT be going there.

I’m at a loss of words with my neck, i don’t know what to do and I’m only 24, I don’t want to have severe neck issues forever.

Any advice, input, or interpretation of the video would be appreciated. I am also attaching the DMX report below. Thank you!

Anyone tried prolotherapy

So my Ortho (who gave me three sets of steroid injections) is now recommending prolotherapy. He insists I have nothing to lose by trying it. The aim is to stimulate the ligaments in the back to grow thicker which can ease off pressure my two bulged discs. He says it's very safe but I have read horror stories and the literature is inconclusive. This is the dextrose based injection rather than PRP. It does trigger stiffness pain for 2-3 days after the injection.

Anyone here with experience?

Prolotherapy - Not Just Bad Science But Dangerous

Prolotherapy was an interesting subject as it claims to be able to heal people of chronic musculoskeletal issues, regenerate ligaments, tendons, etc, and asserts it can therefore prevent the need for surgery.

When I looked into prolotherapy I found some rather shocking discrepancies between the claims made by prolotherapists and the actual science.

Firstly, they don't seem to understand the underlying mechanism but only have a theory (a very surface level theory) as to how it actually works.

This would be fine if there were studies that could conclusively associate prolotherapy with being able to treat musculosketel pain; however, most of the studies involve single-subject studies and non-randomized, cohort and non-cohort studies, signifying that any recorded responses would be biased as the subjects are pre-selected before the trial in a non-randomized manner.

Also, it would appear that prolotherapy can potentially lead to dire health consequences as explained by this article (www.rosshauserreview.com), which details the side effects caused by a Ross A. Hauser -- a well known prolotherapist within that medical community. Furthermore, these side effects are not being reported or are being under-reported by the actual prolotherapy practitioners.

It makes one wonder if there is something of a conspiracy going on, as there is seemingly no regulation or accountability, perhaps because it's alternative medicine.

prolotherapy tomorrow

I have an appointment with my new physiatrist tomorrow for prolo for my collarbone and honestly i’m kinda terrified. anyone able to tell me about their experience so I sort of know what to expect?

he knew a decent amount about EDS which makes me feel like I can trust him (although he vaguely asked abt my ears after asking abt my stretchy skin and i had no idea what he was wanting to know so i showed him how my ear cartilage is really bendy compared to the rest of my fam even though I knew that’s probably not related to EDS? lmao i’ve been overthinking that for a while and now i wish i asked what he meant).

he mentioned when I was talking about a strange episode of face numbness that my blood vessels are probably more fragile than other people’s so I need to be careful about any signs of tears, which even if it doesn’t end up being true (haven’t gotten in for genetic testing yet) I found it quite comforting to know that he will be careful about that, if that makes sense. he’s also using ultrasound which makes me feel a lot better.

i’m just…..so scared of needles!! and always convince myself something is gonna go wrong whenever I try something new. so if anyone has had a good experience it would be really helpful to hear rn!! I can’t get myself to sleep cause i’m freaking out a little. also don’t know why I booked this for friday the 13th

Does prolotherapy really help chronic back pain?

I just learnt about prolotherapy and the idea that our ligaments and tendons are damaged and stretched causing bones instability and this leads to muscle spasm and pain sounds about right.

And what we need to do is fix the ligaments, not inject cortisone or steroid to fix the symptoms.

However its extremely expensive. $650 for the first assesement and $400-$800 for the treatment and I need at least 3 treatments to see result.

Have anyone got it done? How did you afford the cost? I am worried even after the treatment i wont feel better then im gonna waste a lot of money.

Cortisone can give immediate relief, but that usually only lasts 3 months.

The one practitioner in VT exclusively does PRP, which exacerbated my symptoms, unlike prolo which I was able to tolerate well.

Also, would love to hear from other people with CCI who've done prolo. My understanding is prolo is more effective for laxity than PRP, is that the experience of other people on this forum?

Simple dosage for healing osta 12.5mg mk67 12.5mg, no more taking this before bed, i will take it 4 to 5 hours before sleep, last time hunger was not an issue at that dosage but it wrecked my sleep.

Chemyo is where i ordered my stuff.

Lets see how things go, i got MSM hydrolyzed collagen, i eat 200g of protein per day, and eat a balanced diet. Lets get this done, after for training i am gonna shoot for higher reps, so far doing goblet squats and lungs build the leg nicely and does not wreck my back.

I have been advised to do prolo therapy which is a series of injections to these problematic areas, once a month for 6 months. My concern is, will this therapy help with my shoulders separation? Scapula? No idea.

Prolotherapy

My old prolotherapy thread was closed for edits, (I don't know why reddit does that).

So, I'm going to give my 6-month update about my neck prolotherapy for chronic neck pain and headaches.

I've been carefully tracking my pain since I got my prolotherapy done, and it does seem like it has improved a small amount. However, I'm not sure if that's due to the prolotherapy, or other steps I've taken to prevent or ease my pain over the past 6 months.

On one hand, I've had fewer severe days, where I'm dizzy and can barely concentrate or move because of my neck pain. On the other hand, I still have neck pain every day of my life, especially in the morning.

Yesterday and today are a good example of how my neck and head pain work. Yesterday, I woke up with bad neck pain, so I got up early and drank my morning tea while at my standing desk. I find that standing for 1-2 hours after waking helps calm my neck pain down. Over the course of yesterday, I did many hours of work at my desk while both standing and sitting. By the time I went to bed, I had much less pain than earlier in the day. However, sleeping is the thing that kills my neck and causes me most of my pain. I know that every time I go to bed is like rolling the dice the next morning.

The next morning, I woke up with really bad neck and head pain, causing me to get up at 6 am (earlier than usual for me). I did my usual routine of standing for a couple hours while eating breakfast and drinking my tea, but I knew this day would be a bad day for my pain. I've had a pretty terrible headache and aching neck all day... been battling the pain now for ten hours with little relief. I've got for two long walks (which sometimes help), and used my standing desk here at home. Still, the pain is so distracting I can't get anything done or enjoy anything. The pain seems to be a little better now, and it might improve by bedtime. But, once I fall asleep, the random number generator will engage again and tomorrow could be either relatively pain-free or torturous.

Just a description of my current life that I hope helps somebody, somehow.

Next week I'm gonna start prolotherapy, and If it doesn't work, I'm planning to kill myself.

Almost one and a half years ago, I started to have serious neck pain, it turned out it is because of herniated discs and loss of curvature in my neck, I had to quit my master's degree because of this unbelievable pain. When I thought, nothing can be worse, almost 4 months ago, lower back pain started, again MRI showed that it is because of a herniated disk and loss of curvature in my back. So far, I tried everything for these problems and nothing worked. And today I have the worst knee pain, actually I had some knee pain in last summer, but later somehow it was kind of healed, but today it is so bad that it feels like I broke my bone. I came from work and immediately started to cry and I can't stop it. I have to work and earn money but it is such a big challange to endure all of this pain during the work. I just can't go back to my parents' house because they are mentally abusive and I worked so much for my education and having a job I just can't stand the idea of losing everything after spending so much effort. I'm in my twenties and I can't give up my life and stay at a abusive home all day. And in conclusion, I'm gonna start prolotherapy next week and If it doesn't work as well, I'm seriously planning to kill myself. I just can't stand this pain that I have all the time for keeping my mother happy. Everyday my body decays more and I'm so scared of the future. I'm continuosly thinking what will happen next, which body part will start to have pain as well. I'm so tired and mentally exhausted. Also some days I'm having chest pain, and in these days, I feel like I'm gonna die soon anyway. I didn't go to the doctor for that but I know that even If I go, nothing will change. So I will try prolotherapy too and If it doesn't work either, I will have to kill myself. And the ironic part is, among all of these fears, death is not something I'm scared of, the idea of death is actually very comforting. I'm just sad that there are a lot of things that I never tried. If I knew it would end this way, I would try some things before. So anyway, wish me luck, guys. My biggest wish is a second chance in this life. And I'm sorry If I caused negative feelings, I just feel so hopeless and scared right now, and I don't have nobody to talk.

After almost 11 months, finally seeing progress after trying prolotherapy for my neck

Hey everyone! I sustained a concussion in a skiing accident in February 2020. I was going too fast, fell and landed on the back of my head/neck. I felt all of the usual symptoms (dizziness, vision/vestibular issues, exercise intolerance, brain fog, anxiety, depression fatigue, etc) although I didn’t have too many headaches.

After several months, I had a lot of progress with symptoms by doing cardio, doing vision/balance rehab at home, desensitization to busy environments, etc. However, a lot of symptoms persisted like vision issues (my biggest complaint), brain fog, and fatigue. I thought I could treat the lingering symptoms by going to a chiropractor that specializes in gentle cervical adjustments.

Turns out, he wasn’t so gentle and after a bad adjustment that gave me HORRIBLE symptoms as well as exacerbation of my old symptoms (I got numbness and weakness in my arms and legs, blood pooling, POTS, trouble word finding, muscle spasms, etc) I realized that I had an instability issue in my neck after seeing a doctor who was knowledgeable with this type of injury.

This was after going to tons of doctors in order to make sure he didn’t cause me to have a VAD or mini stroke.

Basically it means that in the accident I damaged the soft tissues in my neck which includes the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. This is super common with chronic whiplash as well as chronic concussion patients. This caused me to eventually develop disorders of the cervical spine called cranial cervical instability and atlanto-axial instability (also known as CCI and AAI).

I tried physical therapy for my neck but the instability was too severe and it set me back for a whole month. At that point I knew it was time to try prolotherapy. After one session of PRP injections to my neck, my fatigue, brain fog, vision issues, dizziness, neck pain, weakness, numbness, and shoulder pain are greatly improved. I’m looking forward to getting more injections and seeing how much more I can improve.

I personally believe that the brain actually can heal quite fast from a concussion, but if there are lingering issues from the neck then you will still have symptoms. The symptoms of a neck injury virtually mimic the symptoms of a concussion. Definitely look into getting your neck checked out at the very least. I was doing so much vision and vestibular rehab, not knowing that it was all ineffective because my vision and dizziness was changing every single day (due to my unstable neck) which

Has anyone tried Prolotherapy or PRP for problem joints or back?

Hello Everyone!

I have been experiencing serious issues with my low back and right leg. It started about five years ago when I decided to get over my bad habit of crossing my legs, right over left. Within weeks I noticed that my right leg was "loose" for lack of a better term. I would shift around in my seat, and my left leg and pelvis would move, but my right leg was so loose it wouldn't! I developed permanent stiffness in my right hamstring, which led to further injuries. I also noticed extreme hypermobility in my right SI joint, which would click and pop when I moved around. And I developed muscle spasms in my low and mid back, psoas, and right oblique to compensate.

I am interested to know if anyone with EDS had experiences with trying any type of prolotherapy for loose tendons and ligaments around a joint? I am thinking I want to try this, since a year of PT provided little benefit.

TB500 + Prolotherapy

Both therapies promote fibroblast growth factors.

In Prolotherapy the "needle-trauma" at the injection side induces a small local inflammation which activates the growth factors locally while TB500 works systemic.

However TB500 has also anti-inflammatory effects so would it inhibit the effects of Prolotherapy?

If this would be the case then TB500 wouldn't be the right choice after major traumas like an operation. As we need the acute inflammation to heal.

Personally I think Prolotherapy and TB500 should work synergistic despite the (mild) anti-inflammatory effects of TB500. What do you think?
