Hypothetically : What would be significant impacts (pros and cons) if we decide to wipe out 60% of the human population. In terms how this change would effect the environment, ecology & economics of world.

Recently after watching an episode of John Oliver tonight show on China's one-child policy. It got me wondering if there were any positives to it at a global level. If china if didn't place these restriction, despite the fact China today being the most populated by number would have had 70% surplus over its existing population. Whereas in its neighbouring country India, the government is crippled by the continuously expanding population growth. With resources being finite on the planet, & global warming being an increasing concern, it's just got me thinking did Samuel L Jackson (in the kingsman) or Thanos have a point. For this hypothetical morality is not a concern it a matter of survival of the ecosystem.
