A list of puns related to "Play Safe (public information film)"
I love a good PIF. You don't see them so much these days and when you do they are very tame, but they used to be pretty brutal.
Here is one I remember seeing in primary school (warning, it's not nice viewing).

I'd say the most shocking one for me was one that randomly popped up on TV in the early 90s. There I was, happily watching fun adverts such as Shake & Vac, that dancing VHS skeleton or the like, when suddenly, on pops this cute little kid messing around with an iron near her plastic doll, and the iron falls and - in slow motion - sheers off half the doll's head! The camera then zooms in on this melted, mangled half-head and a deep voice warns gravely that irons are not toys.... aaaand back to an advert of the colourful ices you can make with a Mr Frosty. Levity, levity, HALF A DOLL'S HEAD, levity. Scarring stuff.
For those who want a blast from the past, here is a compilation of some traumatic classics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j4NStSMCLs
I only have vague memories of it because the alien looked similar to Lloyd from the cartoon Lloyd in Space - https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lloydinspace/images/6/6a/Lloyd.jpg
Apparently it was about a world where everything seemed the same, everyone looked the same as the alien mentioned above and some message of "THINK!" but other than that, I've forgotten what it was actually about.
All I can remember was watching it in a static caravan they'd brought into primary school and it being projected.
It was a public information film, but not like the sorts shown on TV, from what I remember it seemed to be shown only in schools, IIRC, I saw it in 1994.
It seemed to frighten some of the kids, me included.
But does anyone remember this? Anyone remember it at all?
Couldn't find anything on Google on this, even YouTube.
Hello everyone. I am currently dealing with a dilemma that I hope some of you may be able to help with.
I am currently a full-time acting PM-3 with the IRCC. My acting term runs until Mar. 31, 2022. As per IRCC policy, I will roll over into an indeterminate position in Jul. 2022 (after 3 years of service). I am technically a term CR-4 but I have applied for the PM-3 pool already. I am also very confident my acting will be extended before the end of the fiscal year.
My dream is to get into a municipal policing career (Metro Vancouver) as soon as possible. However, due to medical reasons, I cannot apply to policing for at least another year and a half.
I also feel that I lack relevant work experience for policing. I do volunteer a lot though.
While working from home is very nice, I have zero passion for my current job or department. The work is mundane and monotonous. I have zero human contact besides a daily online team meeting.
BC is currently hiring adult probation officers but only in an auxiliary (temporary) capacity. The job runs until Aug. 2022 but can be extended by BC Corrections. The hiring process can take up to three months. There are no employee benefits and I would receive pay in lieu (6% in lieu of time off + $0.79 per hour in lieu of health coverage). There is zero job security but I have been told that most probation officers begin their careers this way. They start off as auxiliary employees before eventually applying for and landing permanent positions.
I feel that the career change would give me fantastic experience for my policing application but I would be taking a hefty salary cut ($51,532 vs $65,547). I would also need to commute to whatever community corrections office I would be working from.
If I am, for whatever reason, unsuccessful in the police recruitment process (e.g., deferred), having a PS position would likely be the better backup option. However, I think that I would also enjoy a career as a probation officer assuming my salary was comparable in the long run and I held a permanent position. Of course, that is also assuming I would be extended by the province past Aug. 2022 anyways.
For context, I am 26, single, and live at home currently. My largest monthly expense is βrentβ I pay my family. I have some decent savings/investments and I do hope to be a home owner by the time I am 30.
The way I see it, I have at least a few options (let me know if you see any others):
App just launched but could not find any info/pr about it in English. Will probably drop on the Safe Travel site and their social media in the next couple of days.
Hi All,
Does anyone have any collections of UK public information films, preferably 60/70/80s. I know there are loads on YouTube but it's variable quality and mostly unordered or categorised. I recall a couple of VHS tapes from the late 90s which I'm sure I had at the time. Anything you have would be gratefully received. Thanks.
