A list of puns related to "Pied cockatiel"
Hello,
I have had birds for about 30 years. Many species and I currently own Conures. One for about 15 years.
I'm the second owner to a male cockatiel and I have had him for about 3 years. He was never finger trained or cuddled so hes particular and does like to be left alone most of the time.He does enjoy his toys and mixed veggies of carrots, green beans, corn and peas. I did stick train him as he does not like hands. Hes silly and likes to whistle. I just can't have the loud noises in my apartment anymore. I think its a result of loneliness. He would be happy with a female cockatiel or group of cockatiels.
Must have experience, not for a first time bird owner.
He would come with a cage and the only thing I ask is he be picked up in Boulder CO.
Thanks!
I have a few other questions I'm hoping to have answered. I've never kept a bird before so pardon me if any questions are obvious. If I do end up with one I'll probably need all the advice I can get so I don't accidentally kill it or make it miserable.
Do I need to get 2 so they can keep each other company?
How much time do I need to set aside for cleaning/playing? I have about 4-6 hours between class and sleeping on school days, but I can spend more time on weekends.
Does the gender of the bird influence how it acts? Is there a certain gender that is best for beginners to start out with?
Should I keep the bird away from my dogs (Boston Terrier and Pitbull/dachshund)? Should I provide perches or hideouts around the house in case the dogs try to attack it?
What materials and substances should I avoid exposing or feeding to the bird? Which ones are safe or beneficial?
When should I take the bird to a vet? What are signs something is wrong?
Will the bird want to rip up things like books and blankets? What could I do to prevent this from happening?
What temperature should I keep the bird's surroundings at? My room where I'm planning to keep it is ventilated and has effective air conditioning.
What precautions should I take to reduce bird-related damage or accidents?
How big should the cage be? I'm planning on letting it fly around during the hours I'm at home and awake, but for most of the day, it will be in its cage.
How much noise does a pied cockatiel typically make? My neighbors and family might not appreciate a loudly singing/screaming bird at 6:00 AM.
How can I introduce new people to the bird? Will it be aggressive of visiting friends?
I have an older bird. he was adopted so I dont know how old he is exactly. he's at least 11 or 12 but more likely closer to 20 and I've noticed in the past couple years that his bald spot has grown a little (the vet said he's fine and it's common for cockatiels to have bald spots behind their crests). but over the years he seems to have been getting spottier, going from an average gray to a more pied look. has this happened to anyone else's bird?
I am looking for someone who can adopt my two-year-old cockatiel.
This is not a decision to which I have come lightly. My wife and I moved out of town last year and our work situation and lifestyles have changed significantly, with much more work and travel out of the house. As a result, Iβve been unable to give the little guy the love and attention that he needs, and it breaks my heart to think of him alone in his cage so much. I do take him out and play with him as much as I can, but I know he needs more. (Getting a playmate for him isnβt an option for the same reasons.)
Iβd like to find him a home with someone who is both experienced keeping cockatiels, and either has one or more already or is prepared to shower the little guy with attention and scritches. Heβs been kept in a flight cage indoors but if you have cockatiels in an (appropriate) aviary outside, thatβs doable as well. His base diet is Roudybush pellets and fresh vegies, as the diet of all pet birds should be, so Iβm not keen for him to go somewhere thatβs going to dump seeds in a dish and call it a day.
A few more specifics: heβs a whiteface pearl pied, has all his flight feathers, has had no injuries or sickness, will come to your hand if you beckon, sings a few well-known songs, and has a few phrases in his repertoire.
If you are interested or know someone who is, please PM me so that we can chat and find out if youβre the right fit for each other. Thanks for reading.
Hello there! By some miracle, after a month of searching for hours every day, I found my lost boy, Stevie, in a tree about 2 miles from my house. He was very skinny and it looked like all his feathers had faded all over his body (heβs pied with bright Orange cheek spots but now he looks like a pastel face pearl pied). At first, I wondered if he was in fact a different bird, but he still had the same 2 feathers missing on his right wing from having a night fright during an earthquake and he still does some of his old songs although it sounded like heβd forgotten a lot after being in the wild for over a month. I took him to the vet whoβs not an avian specialist and she checked him out and said heβs stable and doesnβt have any immediate emergency issues, but that he needed to be rehabilitated on pedialyte and hand feeding formula until I can get him to a specialist.
Heβs been doing great for a while now. He weighs about 93g now, eats and drinks, and plays with toys, but his sounds still sound like heβs mimicking wild birds (mostly chirping and clucking) and his color is still very washed out even though all his feathers have grown back in. Now that I have time off from work, I am taking him to the best avian vet specialist in my state to give him a full work up, but I still wonder if given the dramatic color changes, if this little fella is in fact a different bird? Has anyone ever seen any kind of sun-bleaching of cockatiel feathers when they are exposed to 16 hours of direct sun a day? I checked all the message boards, groups, and lost and found sites in a 50 mile radius and didnβt see anything for a missing pastel face pearl pied tiel. I really want to believe that this little guy is my same Stevie because heβs still so sweet and bonded to me, but I havenβt been able to get over that he looks like he has a completely different color mutation!
exposition : i got a cockatiel that was weaned at breeders . she is a male , but we thought she was female based off volume level . i am a minor , living with parents , so all vet visits have to go through them . she is living in my room . wings clipped by breeder . she has been to vet . little over 2 months old . was skinny when she came to us . have not introduced her to seeds or chop yet . 1 ) she regressed back to formula once coming to my house . any breeders that have advice to make weaning easier on the both of us ? 2 ) should i wait until she is fully weaned to get her a friend ? 3 ) would an amazon be too big for a friend ? 4 ) she is a whiteface pearl pied . will she lose the pearling after a molt ? 5 ) how much weight is normal to lose during weaning ( if any ) ? 6 ) she takes a LONG time to eat millet ( up to a minute long ) . same with pellets . cannot open seeds . is this normal since shes on formula ?
i just wanted to ask yall because im hoping for people who have gone through similar things to respond . thanks for any help .
