$50 for the preparation outline
I guess my question is right in the title.
I am writing a very small scene in one of my stories where a servant's room is getting searched and a small reserve of food is found in a locked cabinet - it's left alone (since the they purchased the food themselves) and the servant is cleared as they move to the next room. I ended up hesitating on adding the detail after the question came to mind drafting the chapter.
I am fairly certain that in canon household servants are given room and board during employment so there's no real need to stock up if your ruling lord is going to feed you throughout the winter but there's always that chance food is going to run out during a long winter, right? And that's kind of the servants thought process.
I figured so long as the food didn't attract rodents there would be no issue with it but wanted your guys opinions.
Literally walk into some of the nicest restaurants in the city to see staff dig through piles of chilling food to get to my order that has probably been unassigned twice. Like, is there a good reason why they wouldn’t have a hot box or a heat lamp area for deliveries? I don’t get it.
