Does anyone know anything about asbestos? I became a new homeowner a yeah ago here and my home was built in the 30s and has a lot of the original plumbing it seems. How common is it here, any tips/advice/experiences would be appreciated!

Original Plumbing - A magazine by and for Trans Men, and piece of Trans history.

I realized I've never heard of Original Plumbing on this sub, and honestly, it's insane. A lot of guys out there need to know about this. It helped me, and I think it can help some other dudes too.

Original Plumbing was a quarterly magazine published from 2009-2019 by two trans men named Amos Mac and Rocco Kayiatos. The magazine features dozen of trans men and trans masculine people of all colors and experiences, photographed by Rocco himself.

The name comes from older craiglist slang used amongst trans men to denotate being pre-bottom. When asked about it, Amos said "It is our belief that surgery and hormones don’t necessarily make the man. It’s more than just that. Maybe it’s an attitude, a swagger, a limp wrist, or just an awareness of ones self. Needless to say, there is not just one way to be a trans man."

The magazine's 20 issues cover a range of topics from fashion and hair, to school, art, literature, and tattoos.

In 2019 an anthology of the best of each volume, titled 'Original Plumbing: The Best of Ten Years of Trans Male Culture' was published. Honestly, alongside 'We Both Laughed in Pleasure', Original Plumbing has been indispensable in my transition. If I can let another guy experience that too, I want to.

From feminine to super-masculine presentation, from young trans men to trans fathers and elders, Original Plumbing is a part of Trans history that needs to be known about. It's inspiring beyond belief. If you're looking for something to read at any stage of your transition (yes, even pre-transition!), I cannot recommend it enough.

Here are some links for those interested:

Buying a house built in 1910 with original galvanized plumbing

I'm closing on the house later this week and am already planning on rehabbing right away. Is it worth getting a quote and updating the plumbing now while the rest of the rehab is ongoing? Or should I just wait and see how the water pressure is with everyday use? I'll already be spending upwards of $30k on other rehab work in the house, so not sure if it 's worth spending the extra money on plumbing now.

The water pressure seemed fine during the inspection, but I haven't actually showered there myself yet.

Is it a dealbreaker for a guy to be trans, especially if he has his "original plumbing?"

I'm a closeted trans guy (bisexual) but I'd really like to know what other gay guys think of trans guys. For a lot of reasons I don't really want to get any bottom surgery done (don't google it, seriously), but I'm not sure how this would impact dating. I know there are a lot of lesbians who hate trans women, but I never hear that much about the relationship between trans men and the gay community.

My condo complex was built originally as an apartment complex in 1971. The HOA says the existing plumbing cannot handle in-unit washers and dryers. Is there a fix for this?

Currently, we have 1 laundry room per floor (each building has 3 floors, each laundry room has 2 washers and 2 dryers). I believe they said the existing plumbing is cast iron and they've been replacing as needed with PVC. Is this the kind of thing that could be fixed with reserve funds (though I assume it would be costly) so that we could allow owners to install in-unit W/Ds (at cost of each owner who chooses to do so) or is it really just like an ”is what it is” kind of thing? Not sure if this is the right place to post, so apologies if it's not.

EDIT: I do not own the entire complex. I own a condo in the complex.

Now is the time for Sanders to come out strong with a national infrastructure plan, something akin to the original highway system, and update the plumbing, and create a national fiber optic system to drive us ahead in the digital economy.

This nation needs a plan to get off oil, build the infrastructure to support the evolution of transportation using electric vehicles and update the plumbing, hey we are already digging everything up! This would cost far less than as given to the banks, the cash could be created out of thin air (thanks fiat monastery system!), and hundreds of thousands of jobs would be created. Also, the number of contractors would be limited and be done by something like the arm core of engineers so as to not let it be a cash grab by corporations.

Luigi is the original plumber. So why is Mario now considered the boss of the brother's plumbing business?

When we are first introduced to Mario, he works with animals and its his expertise with animals is why he is saving his girlfriend from Donkey Kong.

The next time we see him in Mario Brothers, his brother Luigi is a plumber and needs Mario's help because animals are taking over in the pipes. Luigi is just a plumber and doesn't know how to get rid of the animals that are effecting his pipes.

Then comes Super Mario Brothers and now Mario is in charge of the plumbing business.

What is the back story of Mario changing his field from working with animals and becoming the head honcho in his brother's plumbing business?

Transmen, what are your opinions of the zine Original Plumbing?

I myself dislike the zine because of the exploitation of transmen that seems rampant, particularly of transmen as objects of fetishistic desire. The zine also seems to carry a vein of sameness among all transmen (being that we all look alike, dress alike, identify the same way, etc.) When I read OP, I can't help but feel that what I'm reading is really about Amos and Rocco; their opinions reflected through the men they interview, rather than a real and honest look at how most men live and view the world. This makes me uncomfortable as this zine is fast becoming a mainstream representation of what it is to be a transmale, and therefore claims to represent my life as well. I am not Amos, I am not Mac and I did not ask for a spokes person to represent me in the world. I more specifically have not asked to be misrepresented to society as a person similar to Amos and Rocco simply because of my status as FTM. What is your opinion of the zine and why?

Update to my original post about my plumbing issue. Even more desperate for advice!

This is an update to my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Plumbing/comments/4f8k50/im_in_desperate_need_of_some_advice_for_a_sewage/

Turns out that the new apartment complex did lay new lines, and my neighbor had been having issues with hers got on their lines. After that happened I inherited her sewage issues because the city main is laid stupid, and I'm the last house on it. After some back and forth with the city, they came out and dug about a 6-8 foot hole behind my fence and said they found the reason my plumbing is messing up is because my line goes into the side of the main, instead of the top. Pictures below:

http://m.imgur.com/a/Kn7zK

They said the only way for me to fix this issue is to basically tear up my entire back yard and re lay a new line, and to expect to pay about 2-5k and I would be responsible for it.

They admitted their line is bad, but there is nothing they can do for me since my line is also bad. I don't have that kind of money laying around. Any suggestions?

Edit:

Called plumber who can't look at it for a while.

Called my insurance agent who said they can't help me and joked and said "sell it and run".

Called my realtor who said its stupid the city still won't fix my issues, and said he's going to have a personal chat with the city manager. Advised against selling.

Realtor and insurance agent are brother and sister in law...
