A list of puns related to "OpenELEC"
Hi, I am trying to install the latest openelec 8.0.4. I am on unraid 6.8.3.
I tried to follow this instructions https://forums.unraid.net/topic/42985-how-to-install-openelec-official-in-a-vm/. Imanaged to do the install, but openelec after reboot does not load.
Anyone has an xml template to check what I might be doing wrong.
Using the provided template 6.0.3 works for me with amd_gpu passthrough, so it must be something regarding the config of the template.
I'm trying to turn a Pi 4 I have into a roku replacement for a relative. I'm trying to find one of those operating systems that can handle Youtube, Prime Video and Netflix- but also files off a USB stick, which the Roku can't do- and not be overly complex, as they're not exactly a computer-expert type, if you catch my meaning.
And frankly, I'm more of a "Poke at it and follow a tutorial carefully until things work" type. I'd love to be an expert, but I'm not yet.
So what do you guys recommend, of those three? I did some research and it seems those are the only three that really have the options I want, but I don't know how they handle or install. Or is there some other OS I missed?
If you use any of the two, which one and why?
Right now I'm running a LE on a Raspberry Pi 3. But thinking of trying OE out of boredom.
Buffering issues on my Raspberry Pi 4. For some reason canβt sustain an 8Mb stream (Original quality).
Kicking it in the arse and selecting a lower quality fixes it, but itβs stupid having to do that every time. Canβt it just do this automatically?
Itβs not a wifi issue - speed tests run hundreds of Mbps on it, and the Chromecast never had issues with it.
Any insights?
I'd like to try my hand at modifying Estuary (using it on OpenElec on a Raspberry Pi), but I can't find the data files behind the Estuary skin. Guides point me to /Addons/skin.estuary or /usr/share/kodi/addons/skin.estuary, but even after enabling the SMB share "Addons", the directory is empty. Do I need to SSH to my Pi in order to see anything in the directory? I'm trying to access it via Windows 7.
The reason I want to edit it is that I loathe the "cozy" list view that has become so modern - too much wasted vertical padding on each item in the videos list view for example. I want to see as many files as possible on the list, and don't want thumbnails, background art, fancy sliders or anything.
Hi everyone, I am currently using openelec (kodi) on a chromebox to toggle between 2 signage videos on a video wall. I am triggering the video playback via a 3rd party control system using the http api. I am finding that Kodi just isnt that reliable with this and will sometimes kick out of the playback, or display some menus over the video in which I have to override the menus using the kodi app.
Does anyone recommend an alternative, like a dedicated OS that just runs a media player that I can trigger these videos/playlists as needed? Perhaps a stripped down linux distro that just auto runs VLC?
Because I am providing both the gear and the content, I am not interested in a monthly service .
Thanks for your help!
I was wondering if anyone knew if the 2018 patches of OpenELEC support the OneDrive 2.0 addon?
Specifically, my issue was that when I tried to install a 2.0 version of the OneDrive addon, the error message said I didn't have all the dependencies.
The OneDrive 2.0 (with OAUTH2 protocol support) addon installs fine on my android and Windows installations of Kodi.
In light of Plex's planned sunsetting of plug-ins, plus the fact that plug-ins for Plex have never improved and always kind of sucks, whats Kodi for Plex like? Right now I'm using RasPlex, but I'm thinking of switching to OpenELEC with the Plex plug-in. Is it any worse than RasPlex for library content? What are you're general experiences/thoughts on the plug-in?
For those who struggled to get an HDHomerun Prime or Plus to work with OpenELEC (XBMC/KODI), I can honestly say that the Model B and B+ contained the bare minimum to run MPEG2 @ 1080i, which is what ATSC channels would use, in addition to Comcast still using the format. The bit rates are high and it requires extreme overclocking and a fast SDHC card to handle it all.
For me, it was a pain in the ass to troubleshoot over 4 months. Live sports channels like NFL Network and ESPN being the most challenging to solve since the bitrates were much higher due to how fast athletes move around on screen.
Got my Raspberry Pi2 Friday evening, received the MPEG2 license this morning and while the Sandisk Extreme microSDHC had yet to arrive, I decided to use a 2 gig class 6 card and it worked just fine. No overclocking, no case fans, no heat sinks, no fast storage card, using the default settings, live channels work flawlessly. Of course using this class 6 card causes menus to lag like crazy when KODI is set to 1080p mode. Swapping it out for a Class 10 UHS one and that instantly solved the menu lag in 1080p. Overclocking it a little bit smooths everything out.
Sure you could buy a FireTV, AppleTV or Nexus Player, but none of them support hardware MPEG2 decoding. None of them have full sized USB ports. Nexus doesnt even have an ethernet port. If you want a media player that can decode antenna based ATSC signals, in addition to play back local media, you may want to consider getting a Pi2 this year.
$35 = Pi2
$8 = Case (or make one out of cardboard/lego blocks)
$10 = 16 gig class 10/UHS (or use an older/leftover card)
$15 = 5v DC 2 amp power supply (or use an older phone charger)
$10 = USB Remote Control (or use your smartphone/tablet)
$3 = MPEG2/VC1 license.
So for about $80 ($100 if you factor in all the shipping costs), you can have one device that does it all. Even less if you have adequate used parts.
Hi guys,
a simple question. Title says it all. I see that libreelec has newer updates, reason enough to chose LibreELEC?
I've been using OpenElec on my Raspberry Pi 3 without any issues. After unsuccessfully trying to install a skin due to missing dependencies I noticed the skin requires Jarvis while my OpenElec version is Isengaard and LibreElec is Jarvis.
First, am I right that OpenElec uses Isengaard?
Second, is there any other significant difference between the two to the end-user?
Thanks
So as the title suggests, I'm running Kodi 17.3 using Openelec on a Raspberry Pi.
I've got a network share to a local server that I store tv shows and movies on. I've got the proper set up, folder with Tv show name, inside a folder with the Season number, and inside that, the files. I've got it set to pull information from the TVDB.
It had been working perfectly for months up until a few days ago. Now new episodes wont add to the TV Shows menu. I can browse to the file via the videos menu, but any selected files will neither scan to library or find any info on the files. I've tried it with many files at the stage. I can also see in the top corner it is connecting to the TVDB, but not finding anything.
Movies are working fine, but they use a different site to scrape the info from.
I havent seen that theres an issue with the TVDB anywhere else online, and I don't have an option in Kodi to choose another scraper.
Anybody have any idea what the issue may be?
Nothing about my setup has changed at all. Thanks
EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but nothing seemed to work. The TVDB is being connected to, but it wont scrape anything for me. I changed scraper to XEM, and that has worked for me.
I'm thinking about a Logitech Harmony.
I believe there was some disagreement among OE devs about the speed of releases and maybe some resentment that the founder (sraue) was ultimately 'in charge' of the project.
Also some disagreement about the extent of advertising, sponsors, partnership with hardware vendors etc.
So they have forked and LibreELEC is the result. They are talking about an elected board making decisions, assigning tasks and so forth.

So I managed to get my Lightberry set up working quite well with my Raspberry Pi 2 running OpenElec.
I'd be happy to help anyone troubleshoot if they're having issues, whether its the Lightberry itself, Linux, Hyperion, etc I'll do my best to assist.
There have been a few posts recently recommending OpenElec compatible devices. I tried porting OpenElec onto a Minix X8H+ but found it unstable and unreliable. I love the speed benefits so what device would you suggest is both, stable and easy to set up?
So I want to upgrade the storage for my openelec media center running on a raspberry pi 3. Currently I have a single 5tb HDD connected to it. I am planning on buying a Western Digital Duo HDD, which is two HDDs in one enclosure. So what I wanted to do is to configure it as JBOD in order to use it as one big drive and plug it into the pi via USB3. If that doesn't work, my second option would be RAID 0. Could that work? I've never had anything to do with RAID and JBOD. Does every operating system have to "understand" RAID, or is it just the drives controller that handles that? I don't want a NAS or anything that connects via network connection. Just a simple, direct connection with USB. Has anyone ever done that? Any suggestions?
As a fair warning, I'm a big noob. But I'm stuck and need help...
I installed LibreElec from an USB device. Upon going through the install process, LibreElec has a separate internet access page. On that page it showed the wired connection being 'online' and it saw a bunch of WiFi connections, all on idle.
I can connect through Chorus through a browser on my laptop and through SSH (Putty). It sees the shared partition of my Synology, so that all is working....
Except it doesn't show any add-ons, the movies folder is not populated by images or even names of videos while I can the whole bunch when setting up the source. The weather connection also doesn't work. Internet is just not working while 15 minutes ago on OpenElec Kodi had connection to the internet.
So how can I find out what the problem is? I'm no expert, so bear with me please. And thanks in advance.
I was a hardcore WDTV fan/user but my current one is starting to die from overheating (my fault). For a temp solution I threw OpenELEC on a laptop and now I feel like I have been living under a rock. Its SO much better.
So, now I need a set-top box to run it. I have been eyeing the CuboxTV or maybe a DroidBox but I would like some input and suggestions from you guys!
Edit: I regularly watch 10+gb 5.1 DTS MKV files along with other large files, all over a gigabit network connection from a NAS.
Edit 2: Very interesting replies so far, I honestly had not considered the RPi2 even as an option yet looks like it's the one garnishing most support. Surprised more people were not recommending some niche android linux box things but hey, at this rate I may just get a RPi2
Edit 3: Ugh...I am just getting more and more confused xD so frustrating..
Edit 4. Final Edit. I just bought the C1+. You guys convinced me that the Pi type platform was the way to go and the C1+ had a few features I think will feature proof the box for a while until something better comes out (Gigabit, IR Reciever, faster CPU, H265 support). I bought it from Ameridroid, spent $77 for the C1+, Power cord, Clear case, SD Card and the IR Remote!
Edit: Followup Edit. Had it 3 days now and so far it's amazing. Blows the WD out of the water, plays everything (including 17gb MKV files), literally took me 5 minutes to have it running. Using the Rapier skin and wow, love it. The Yatse/Kore android apps are mindbogglingly amazing. I only have a few micro gripes, I have some folders with [HD] in the title and that makes it not find that movie, rewinding seems to be finicky and made everything purple (wtf right?), also NEVER plug the SD card into a windows PC after running it in the ODroid/Pi, the OS gets screwed up and will need re-installed. Otherwise I am a happy camper!
Edit: 2nd Followup. IMPORTANT. If you are having playback issues, stuttering or green flashes, or hassles RW/FF. Cange [System -> Settings -> Video (switch to advanced) -> Playback -> Adjust display refresh rate to match the video] then switch that to anything besides Off ... I also moved to the Titan skin, little better for a remote/phone ran system, Rapier seemed like it wanted me to have a mouse.
Edit: 1 Month later.. I know this box is 80% software and 20% hardware but wow, why did I wait so long to get one. This thing is the best th
... keep reading on reddit β‘So I have a PC that can host the media (shows/movies). Is it as simple as installing plex server on it? Is there another option besides Plex? I have tried googling it, but am confused. Thanks.
First, I tried to add Kodi to RetroPie through the experimental packages option in the RetroPie setup script. I had a script that would start emulation station after I quit Kodi. The problem is that version of Kodi frequently hangs when you exit. I also had some playback issues where some videos would stutter.
Second, I tried to install RetroPie on OSMC. I found a script on their forum. It did not work on RC3, though. Also, the process of installing RetroPie on OSMC really messed up the OSMC install. It modifies the apt-get sources and "tricks" it into installing.
Next, I found a RetroArch add-on for OpenELEC. I installed OpenELEC and I installed the add-on. I fired up a ROM and I was sorely disappointed with the graphics. Everything was muddy and blurred together. Clearly the RetroPie project has done some serious work to make it work as well as it does.
Finally, I think my only option is to have my media center on one SD card and RetroPie on another.
Have I missed something? Is there a really high quality emulator that I can add to OSMC or OpenELEC? Is there someway that I can install a stable version of Kodi on RetroPie?
I am still kind of new to Linux. The Raspberry PI has forced me to use Linux. I am getting better. I can google my way through most problems. I am just having a really hard time with this one.
Can anyone out there give me a hint or point me in the direction I need to go?
I mean kodi 16 was out months ago, so whats the reason for the delay? 17 should be out pretty soon, are they just waiting for that now?
If so then how?
so i recently made the switch on my main livingroom htpc from kodi (using PleXBMC) to the OpenElec build that includes OpenPHT. It's been really great so far, seems pretty stable and responsive on my rig. the wife recently told me she hates the layout, which is a big deal because she usually doesn't really care so i've installed some skins to play around with.
with kodi i had programmed the color buttons on the standard MCE remote to toggle the watched filter, mark something watched, etc. is there any way to do this with openpht?
