A list of puns related to "Nia Nal"
i'm on season 4 ep 8 and i'm really confused. as nia previously told james that she's transgender, and told kara and brainy that it's a power that some women get in her family line, how does it all happen? is it that the power got to her because it itself acknowledges that nia's a woman? i'm not saying i don't support trans people or have anything against them if that's what you think. but i'm really just confused cause she's mtf trans
I'm looking to read fanfics with Dreamer as the protagonist.
Obligatory: i have nothing against transgenderism or transgenders, and I’m glad there is a trans character in the Arrowverse. I would also like to add that Dreamer is one of my top characters on supergirl and I think she’s pretty awesome.
During the crisis retcon, why did the specter not change nia so that she was a genetic woman? There is of course the fact that there would be some people angry that they got rid of her trans-ness, but how would that necessarily be a bad thing? Nia wants to be a woman, a female woman, so why wouldn’t the specter give her what she wants, when looking at her character it is hard to say how transgenderism has really bettered her. It helped out in that one scene in supergirl where she uses it to relate to supergirl, but at the same time she could already relate to supergirl because she herself is an alien, or half of one.
This, however, raises another question I’ve wondered for a long time. How does Dreamer’s powers work? Based on the rules of the species we know that the powers only exist in female members of the species, and we know that Their species is sexual comptable with humans, creates a fertile offspring, and the biology of the children is extremely similar, given that the hormonal treatments worked on Nia. so from there we can assume that Nia’s species has the same XX/XY sex determining chromosome behavior, and the dreamer power would only be written on the X, so then only a being with two X chromosome would have it, and Nia would not have the two X chromosomes, because that is not how genetics work. The technology does not exist to change chromosomes. Of course that could be explained by the powers not being chromosomal, but instead triggered by the presence of a large amount of estrogen.
Back to the original question though, it just feels almost like a disservice that the character wasn’t given what she seemingly deserved from that part.
Also, like I said, I have no problems with them having a trans character, and infact love the fact that they do. And I also love the fact they hired an actual trans person to play them, I just wish they chose to make a character trans where it actually makes sense.
Also one last thing I found out while doing the research for this post, I found out that the superpower is passed down through the maternal line, and only ever to one daughter, so only a mother can spread the predisposition to the dreamer power, and so effectively, Nural Nal, the original dreamer, power is gone
... keep reading on reddit ➡She said that one in a few generation, some of the women get power to see into the future. My confusion is that Nia was born a boy. So how can Nia have powers if they're only alloted to women of her species? (I read her actual comic character lore and it says nothing about men having powers or the original dream girl being like this) I'm not too sure "female hormone injections" could awaken latent powers. It's more of a magical thing and less biological
To preface this - I am very much on board with Supergirl introducing a trans superhero, Nicole Maines has been giving a solid performance, and I don't want to pre-judge where they are going with this plot but it seems like by making Nia both trans and an alien they are kind of muddying things up. If the idea is to introduce a trans character and address real world issues trans people face, then making her an alien undercuts that goal. We can't assume that gender or sex works the same way for naltorians as humans, what transitioning entails, how gender transitioning is viewed among naltorians etc. So if you do want to do a grounded story about Nia as a transwoman you either have to spend a bunch of time explaining how trans stuff works for naltorians, or ignore the issue. In any event it makes her less relatable for transpeople and less informative of the trans experience for cis people. It would be one thing if there were a bunch of trans characters in Arrowverse shows (or tv in general) and they introduced this one, but given that this is a major rarity and on tv in general and the first trans character in an arrowverse show, this seems like a missed opportunity.
Also, am I the only one who thinks it's confusing that, in response to Jimmy Olsen not wanting to do a pro-alien article, Nia came out as trans instead of as an alien? I mean isn't that a bit more directly pertinent since alien rights was the specific subject they were discussing? When she did that I assumed that Nia was a human.
Nia nal's charactor Nicole Maine is doing a press tour rn and super girl started filming season 5, does that mean that Nia Nal is not in season 5 of supergirl or will only appear in a later episode?
I mean, its totally possible that this was mentioned in the show and I just didn't notice but when did they ever reveal on the show that Nia Nal is transgender? Is she a male who was born a woman or a woman who was born a male?
Futhermore, I am confused as to the actual actress who plays her. her wiki page says that she was assigned the gender of male at birth but does anyone know if that's actually the case? She doesnt look like someone who had been through gender re-assignment surgery at all and her voice is not even low so I am confused.....
Hey quick question, when did we find out Nia’s trans? I’m catching up on the end of the season now - just watching ep 19 and in the interview she does with Kara she says she’s trans. I’m just wondering if we’d been told that in the past and I just hadn’t noticed because where she dropped it in it just seemed random af. Was there foreshadowing I missed?
I'm so proud of this... I don't really watch Supergirl (or any of the CW shows, anymore really), but I watched this season's premier JUST to see how the trans community would be represented through this new character Nia Nal (played by the beautiful, and quite frankly, adorable Nicole Maines)... and I was very impressed. So far, they have not treated Nia like the token trans person of the show (granted, it's just her first appearance, and given the CW's track record, I wouldn't be shocked if she turned into that), but they've just made her a charming and likable character that I feel will grow on the audience over time. She hasn't done any superheroing yet, nor have they actually addressed her being trans, but again... giving audiences a good feel for the character before jumping into any of that is very good.
We need more representation like this, this is a great first step, but it never hurts to always go the extra mile. I wish I had trans characters like Nia in movies or shows when I was younger... would've helped me figure myself out a lot sooner.

“Company founders and leaders are unloading their stock at historic levels, with some selling shares in their businesses for the first time in years, amid soaring market valuations and ahead of possible changes in U.S. and some state tax laws.
So far this year, 48 top executives have collected more than $200 million each from stock sales, nearly four times the average number of insiders from 2016 through 2020, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from the research firm InsiderScore.”
“Across the S&P 500, insiders have sold a record $63.5 billion in shares through November, a 50% increase from all of 2020, driven both by stock-market gains and an increase in sales by some big holders. The technology sector has led with $41 billion in sales across the entire market, up by more than a third, with a smaller amount but an even bigger increase in financial services.”
“‘What you’re seeing is unprecedented’ in recent years, said Daniel Taylor, an accounting professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School who studies trading by executives and directors. He said 2021 marks the most sales he can recall by insiders in a decade, resembling waves of sales during the twilight of the early 2000s dot-com boom.”
Should this be a clue to investors?

If you didn't know, the new operator Osa is being voice acted by Nicole Maines aka Nia Nal/Dreamer from the CW show Supergirl. Both the character Osa and Nicole herself are trans.
Not only is having trans representation in-game fucking awesome, but backing it up by casting a trans person is so rare in entertainment. Just like with Thunderbird, having a real Nakoda woman voicing a Nakoda character shows that at least someone at Ubisoft cares about this game and its players. Despite all the community's issues with the state of the game, I think Ubi deserves some serious props for the representation they have in-game and behind-the-scenes.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
(trigger warning, for serious discussion of transphobia and transphobic language as well as some language)
I have noticed on many trans online spaces, some serious scoldy criticism against anime style catgirl/uwu culture that many internet transfemmes treasure and post regularly. I understand the criticisms are obvious and intuitive to many, that a lot of anime culture is problematic and overly sexualised in an often creepy way. However, something within the spirit of uwu, yet lights the hearts of countless trans with a feeling like hope. A feeling not explained in words, and I wish to do my best to serve the catgirl nation, to find those words, to defend the subculture that has proven such a balm to my jaded broken heart.
I want to start my argument with historical western culture. I want to start with an anecdote referencing trans youtuber May’s amazing video essay on the western 80’s slasher, Sleepaway Camp. The TLDR version, is that it is a profoundly transphobic film, where the final line at the end of the movie, is the “horrific” reveal that the female presenting slasher, has male genitalia, shouting “SHEs a DUDE!” even within the safe context of a trans video essay, this scene was painful to watch.
The interesting take on this movie, is not pointing out all the many, many ways this movie is offensive, but in the strange way that May, and I as her audience, took strange inspiration from the movie. May projects an interpretation where a kind, innocent and really cute trans girl gets epic violent revenge on “victims” who for the most part, are really abusive and mean to her. It is likely a symptom of how microscopic popular trans representation is, and how DESPERATE us trans are, to find something inspiring in any image that vaguely reminds us of ourselves. Even if the movie is made to be awful to us, May is so jaded, she just wants to find some joy in a cute looking trans character getting revenge on assholes. I relate to that level of cynicism and emotional exhaustion.
Of course, popular western culture has progressed since the 80’s, the president can say “trans rights” and a good looking enough tran can give those particular kind of “inspiring” speeches that suburban white people in auditoriums like. It appears like we might be getting a lick, a slight hint at possible full social acceptance, and with that, comes the temptation to try to fit in with popular society. But, and this is a big but, where is the “positive” trans representation i
