[EXPANSION] The Australian Assistance Campaign to Papua New Guinea

>[The Office of the Prime Minister of Australia]
To the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea
Given our close geographic proximity and economic dependency, the Commonwealth of Australia has been following events in Papua New Guinea for several years now. We have noticed the status of your government in a Parliamentary deadlock, with both Houses paralysed by political infighting and corruption.
The Australian media has taken a direct interest in various issues plaguing your country and the resultant poverty and starvation. As steward of the International Oceanic Union, Australia cannot allow this humanitarian crisis to continue so close to our borders. The very future of your 8 million citizens is at stake.
As one Prime Minister to another, I believe that Australia can provide you with a solution. Perhaps it is one that you will not enjoy, as change is never welcomed with open arms, but for the good of your citizens and the good of your nation, I urge you to accept it.
My government has been busy this past year, gaining approval from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Indonesia, our own citizens, and both Houses of Parliament for the following modernisation proposal. As such, we would like to propose the Australian Assistance Campaign (AAC) be dispatched to your shores, to assist your government with the following:

>+ Responsible Economic Stewardship: As the leader of economic growth in Oceania, Australian foreign policy is primarily concerned with the positive growth of its closest Oceanic neighbour. Papua New Guinea is the third-largest economy in the region, yet its eight million citizens live in extreme poverty. We seek to encourage Australian private investment in sustainable and responsible domestic industries to grow your country's currently-stagnant economy and critically reduce unemployment, while putting proper safeguards to ensure that rising prosperity is shared with its poorest individuals.

Year-long campaign to make conditions harsher for Manus refugees - Documents show how the Australian government sought to drive refugees and asylum seekers from its detention centre in Papua New Guinea.

This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 87%.

> For more than a year, camp managers and security staff have waged a campaign to make Australia's detention centre for refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island as inhospitable as possible, leaked documents reveal.

> The detention centre on the PNG island is one of Australia's two offshore holding centres - along with the other on the Pacific island of Nauru - for asylum seekers and refugees.

> Under the confidential plan to coerce people to leave, refugees were to be separated from "Transferees" - those who had not been formally recognised as refugees.

> The document says: "Conditions for refugees at East Lorengau refugee transit centre should be more attractive than for refugees at Lombrum RPC. Conditions for refugees at the RPC should be more attractive than conditions for transferees."

> One plan mooted was to forcibly remove refugees and asylum seekers from the detention centre into the transit centre in a single day.

> On Good Friday, after a dispute about the use of a naval base soccer pitch near the detention centre, a mob of PNG naval personnel ran riot, trying to storm the detention centre, and shooting at refugees and staff hiding inside accommodation blocks.

[NEWS] Guinea Civil War Update: The Southern Expedition and Northern Campaign, and the Interntional Red Crescent Society

The Southern Expedition of the the Mujaheddin was highly successful, capturing more territory than was hoped for. The Organization for the Promotion of Monotheism thus rejoiced at this major victory which has brought more of the country under their control. The National Patriotic Movement's defenses were too weakened by the assault from the Mujaheddin and as such, they were slaughtered, captured, or ran away, thus allowing the Mujaheddin to come close to the doorstep of the National Patriotic Movement. This severely threatens the legitimacy of the National Patriotic Movement in the region as many are beginning to favor the more liberal Organization for the Promotion of Monotheism than the ideologically questionable National Patriotic Movement.

The National Patriotic Movement also experienced their own fair amount of success as they were able to take a number of territories on their way to their border with the Islamic Republic of Guinea. They were unable to take any RIG territories but they are a stone's throw now from Kounsitel. This may prove problematic for the OPM just as the OPM's position threatens the MPN.

The most unfortunate side effect of these military campaigns is the loss of human life, both sides have lost a lot of men in these most recent campaigns and many civilians were killed as is the nature of war. At present the total death toll for Guinea stands at a staggering 28,000 in what has been possibly the bloodiest month of fighting in the war. Granted this includes the deaths of soldiers on all sides and civilians, this number is somewhat bothersome. The number of internally displaced persons now stands at nearly 400,000. In the aftermath, the Organization for the Promotion of Monotheism asks that the Red Crescent Society enter into the country to help alleviate the problems with these people. With the largest portion of the country being under temporary OPM administration, most refugees have moved to camps in their territory. The rest have done what they could to get to Conakry where they feel they will have the greatest chance of survival. Ibrahim dan Laima prays that the IRCS is able to enter the country and help those innocents affected by the war.
