A list of puns related to "Neoclassicism"
I am currently in my final year of high school, and we are studying the Rite of Spring. My teacher has informed us that in our end of year exam we will be required to write an essay on why the Rite of Spring is not Neoclassical, and there is next to nothing on it in our handbook, and I can't find much on Google either. Would it be possible for someone to help me with this, or am I on the wrong forum?
Iβve just finished my best ever listen to Pulcinella, and on a hifi that is good enough for the level of detail required. Iβm blown away with how wonderful this musical style can be - lively, vibrant, passionate, various, funny.
So: what are your favourite neoclassical recordings?
You guys never let me down.
(Oh, I forgot to say the Pulcinella was the Hogwood)
I've always been fascinated by neoclassical art and architecture, but hesitant due to its glorification of western values and exclusion of other cultures. Are there any contemporary artists who use the neoclassical style to critique modern society? I've always wanted to find an artist that uses classic ideals, themes, and stories but twists them to add a modern, ironic, and satirical aspect to them. Any works/articles/artists/videos would be appreciated. Thank you! <3
From what I could gather, there seems to be a major difference between the French Neoclassicism of the 17th Century and the Neoclassical Period in English Literature. French Neoclassicism seems to closely follow Aristotle's Poetics and the rules of drama established in it. They adhered to the Three Unities and placed importance on decorum and verisimilitude. The Neoclassical Period in England, however, seems to follow the Enlightenment instead of Greek and Roman ideals. The Neoclassical Literature of England possesses virtually all the qualities of the Enlightenment and yet, for some reason, it is referred to as The Neoclassical Period. (I know that it's also referred to as The Period of Enlightenment but still.) Can anyone give me an explanation for this?
