SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

[Both] "Free-Market Capitalism" is an Oxymoron Gigapost

One thing that I find that some of the more dishonest Socialists and Capitalists will do is to equate a freed market with Capitalism. What I want to try and do is challenge the debaters on this sub to see how these two concepts can actually be at odds with each other.

If you are just looking to debate I will put a tl;dr for the point of each section.

To disentangle what I mean by the title, "Capitalism" as a word does not have a single definition (similarly to how people may use "Socialism"). To clarify, Gary Chartier has done a good service to clarify this issue, so I will use his definitions moving forward (please use the distinctions in the replies):

  1. capitalism-1: "capitalism" has been used, mostly (but not exclusively) by its defenders to just mean a free market, i.e., an economic order that emerges from voluntary exchanges of property and labor without government intervention (or any other form of systemic coercion).
  2. capitalism-2: "capitalism" has also been used, sometimes by its opponents and sometimes by the beneficiaries of the system, to mean a corporate State–that is, active government support for big businesses through instruments such as subsidies, central banking, tax-funded infrastructure, "development" grants and loans, special tax exemptions, funding plants, acquiring land through eminent domain, government union-busting, and so on down the line. Since government intervention is always, by nature, either services funded by expropriated tax dollars or regulations enforced from the barrel of a gun, it’s worth noting that being "capitalist" in the sense of a free marketeer requires being "anti-capitalist" in the sense of opposing the corporate State, and vice versa.
  3. capitalism-3: third, "capitalism" has been used (by for example, Marxians and socialists who are careful about their use of language) to refer to a specific form of labor market–that is, one where the dominant form of economic activity is the production of goods in workplaces that are strictly divided by class. Under capitalism in the third sense, most workers are working for a boss, in return for a wage; they are renting out their labor to someone else, in order to survive, and it is the boss and not the workers who holds the title to the business, the shop, and the tools and facilities that make the business run. (Or, as the Marxists would have it, the means of production.) It’s worth noting that capitalism

The Hayasaka Arc is the Most Underrated in the Entire Series

Hot take: Chapters 179-187 (known as the Hayasaka Arc) are considered generally to be the weakest singular arc in the series, thus far. It seems that a lot of people do not like the confusing narrative being spun, the introduction of Unyo and the vagueness of the Shinomiya family. A lot of people had exception to the violence and many, ok maybe just me, thought that this arc was truly when this series jumped the shark.

But after reading the recent chapters, I decided to come back here. Thinking to myself, "maybe with this new lens of the future, I can see a different perspective laid out here." And I'm glad I did. Reading this again, I found that this arc is the most underrated of the entire series. I'll spend some time here to show some love to this arc by going over a rough summary of each chapter with some comments by me.

It's a shit ton of text, so I included a TL;DR down below for you to read if you don't wanna bother with the human version of a DDoS attack presented as pseudo-intellectual romcom manga analysis.

Spoilers obviously.

  • "Hayasaka's Morning Routine, Her Night Routine, Her Everyday Routine"

First chapter in this arc sets the general tone of what will follow. In my opinion, this is one of the best chapters in the entire story because it not only puts so much of Hayasaka's life into perspective, it shows how and why she is so emotionally detached. At least...that's what we are led to believe. Even after all the physical demands of her job tire her, what eats away at her soul and what keeps her crying every morning is the fact that she has to betray Kaguya every night by reporting on her daily life to Kaguya's family. By doing so, she is tacitly acknowledging that there is no legitimate or genuine relationship between them. Despite dressing and caring for Kaguya, she really has never thought of it as friendship. Only pure servitude. Which sets us up for the central question of this arc: Why are you so afraid of being friends Hayasaka? Again, I can't stress how much this chapter really works with your prior knowledge of the series (especially the rapping chapter when she said she has to put on a mask).

  • "I never really cared anyways"

Hayasaka ends the first chapter saying she is filling her resignation. Kaguya understandably is shook. To us, its obvious Kaguya is upset because she sees Hayasaka as a sister but the both of them tacitly acknowledge that their relationship is more business and less platonic. Hayasa

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

Maid on Netflix - Breakdown and analyses of key ideas around women's experiences who flee DV - and how this related to FDS

Hi all,

Maid on Netflix is a series about a 25yo woman- Alex - who flees her drunk and abusive ex in the middle of the night with her 3 year old daughter. The series shows her sleeping in her car, trying to access DV services and her struggle to try and keep her daughter - and herself - out of an abusive and toxic situation.

We watch the main protagonist - Alex - try and access social services, try and maintain employment while finding appropriate day care for her child - and trying and maintain her sanity as she relies on the state to support her needs. Of course, the social services are difficult to access, make zero sense and are hell-on-earth to navigate.

Unfortunately, her mother ( played by Andie McDowell) is manic and narcissistic free spirit artists type who is always raging or having a manic episode.

The main protagonist Alex - has no one to turn to for support.

Her ex husband Sean is your typical scrote alcoholic who punishes Alex by taking her to court because she fled in the middle of the night in the middle of one of his drunken rages. Alex has no language to articulate the emotional and psychological terror she experienced and the courts absolutely do not recognise it.

Why this relates to FDS

It clearly shows the dangers of involving yourself with a man who is still a child himself. A man whose moods you have to navigate. A man whose additions affect your life. A man who is manipulative, abusive then cries victim.

The scary part? The state gives zero fucks. If you flee this abuse - the state will make your life so hard if you access social services - that you have no option to go back and live with your abuser.

Again - the state does not care if you are a women fleeing a shitty man. It just makes your life more dismal, even more harder - and even more precarious.

This is why we vet. One man can turn your life into a downward spiral you an not escape from.

Other comments on this series:

  • It articulates what it is actually like to to be on the bottom of the socio-hierarchy. When you have zero support system. When you have to rely on the state
  • How you have zero options when you are broke and homeless, how difficult it is to navigate services from the state
  • How terrifying that is. Especially as a mother when you have done everything society has told you to do to be a good mom - but the system favors men. Men and the resources available to them.
  • How few options emotionally abused women have
  • how you are at the m
