No offense, but as a book reader the 1984 adaptation is child-like compared to 2021. Villeneuve with Hans Zimmer at the musical helm captured the atmosphere perfectly with the composition and the music.
I want something like Villeneuve's Dune, be it in the form of film, music, or games.
Babum babum babum BABUM BABUM BABUM BABUM BABUM and so on. Not Jaws, just to be clear. Jaws but going up and up and up.
I don't really know much about stage musicals, but I cannot be the only one to notice this trend in 2021. There are significantly more film adaptations of well-known stage musicals in 2021 than any other year. Plus, it is not just small directors making these adaptations, big names like Steven Spielberg and Joe Wright are involved too, and the quality of these films definitely holds up to their reputation. These are the ones that I know of:
- West Side Story
- Tick, Tick... Boom!
- Dear Evan Hansen
- In the Heights
- Everybody's Talking About Jamie
- Cyrano
I understand that some of these films were supposed to be released in 2020, but having these many films in a 2 year period is still anomalous. Does this indicate that coming into the 2020s, we are entering a new age of musical films?
Film Review: SING 2 (2021): U2 Music And Bono, Himself, Add Adult Appeal To Animated Sequel
Regrettably, I have only seen two films from last year: Dune and The Green Knight. I wish I had seen more, but the films I was interested in were either not showing in my nearby theatre or I didnβt have the time to watch them.
I am definitely interested in watching Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, and The French Dispatch, but I was wondering if there are any others that are definitely worth seeking out (I am not too keen on Marvel/DC movies). Thanks!
