I've been a casual gamer since playing Jet-Set Willy and Manic Miner on the ZX-Spectrum. I've had an Amiga, each generation of Playstation up to 5 and I used to play on PC and I can honestly say that ACV is an absolutely monumental game. I should also add I've more or less completed every AC game too.
The size, scope and love that has gone into ACV is utterly amazing. I have had so much pleasure from playing through the missions in England, Norway, Vinland, Ireland and Skye. I'm heading off to Normandy next and look forward to the next expansions.
I've found the difficulty progression, the missions, the gear enhancing, the graphics and the sound to be spectacular and immersive. For the shear pleasure and size of the game it is utterly worth the money.
Sure there are minor elements that I have enjoyed more in other AC games, but as a full package, this one really is my favourite so far and I have enjoyed them all.
Nothing more than that to add, I just felt the been to share how excellent I think it is to give some balance to the incredible nit-picking criticisms I've seen about this game.
When I look back across most of gaming history, I really do feel like we are still enjoying a golden age of gaming. Just bring on PSVR2.

Spring 20: Given how much effort and time goes into watering my crops every morning, I decided that I could use as many sprinklers as possible. I’ve got five now, but I certainly could use more. I managed to get all the way down to the 55th floor of the mines.
Spring 21: Interestingly enough, it seems that while the later floors of the mines are abundant in iron, they’re relatively rare in copper. So I went back to get some more copper, before trying to push past floor 55. I’ve been running into ghosts down here, and said ghosts can evidently be killed with something as physical as a steel smallsword. It dropped Solar Essence, which just so happens to be one of the things the Junimos wanted. That unlocked a bunch of bundles associated with the bulletin board in the hall. Will these spirits ever stop asking me for stuff?
Spring 22: I’ve been thinking about maybe asking Robin to build me a coop or a barn; I’m confident enough in my farming skills now that I’m interested in getting into animal husbandry. But in an attempt to not put the cart before the horse, I’ve asked Robin to build me a silo so I can start stocking up on feed for the animals before I get them. Later, in the mines, I managed to kill a dust sprite, and climbed down the ladder to the next floor. The thing is, I swear I saw it drop a cool-looking wooden sword before I slid down the ladder. Too late! It was gone. I found out later it was called a “Forest Sword,” and apparently it’s just all-around a better weapon than my current weapon. But I guess the spirits felt bad for me, because I soon found a literal Diamond and a crystal dagger to boot. Gunther will be happy I’m sure.
Spring 23: The Flower Festival is tomorrow! Truth be told, I hate dances, but I’ll still probably go, just to be a part of the community. In the essence of things I don’t like, I found one Master Slingshot on floor 70 today. Definitely see no use in lugging that thing around.
Spring 24: After tending to the crops, I headed down to the Flower Festival. It was cool seeing all different townsfolk coming together to dance like that, and I’m glad I was able to just watch. There’s certainly no “special someone” that I would want to dance with. I was able to purchase a limited edition “Rarecrow,” though. I love a good collectable.
Spring 25: The season’s winding down, and I’ve been warned by multiple people to make sure to finish up any harvesting I need to do BEFORE the turn of the seasons. Most crops can’t handle the shif

Sturgill Simpson is a singer-songwriter and actor from Jackson, Kentucky. After graduating high school and spending three years in the Navy, Simpson began his music career in earnest with the band Sunday Valley in 2004. The group never went anywhere and disbanded in 2012, the same year Simpson would record his debut solo album, 2013’s High Top Mountain. The album earned modest praise and was enough to get Simpson in the studio with Dave Cobb to record his breakout sophomore effort, 2014’s spectacular Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. From there, Simpson has charted a career as one of the leading auteurs in modern Southern music: his subsequent albums would draw on glossy country-soul (the Grammy-winning A Sailor’s Guide to Earth), synth-damaged garage rock (SOUND & FURY), and most recently, his native Kentucky’s long tradition of bluegrass music (Cuttin’ Grass, Vols. 1 & 2). This August, with only a month’s warning, he released The Ballad of Dood & Juanita, his seventh official studio album, to further acclaim. In an interview with Rolling Stone (from which most of the information you’ll find in this piece is sourced), he claimed that Dood & Juanita would be “the last Sturgill record,” saying any subsequent music from him would be released as part of a proper band.

I figure we might just make this a driving tour, but find out, after consulting the maps, that it’s a one-way out of the mine with Land Cruiser-sized vehicles. However, once we get to the mine, there’s internal transport, so I’ve got that going for us, which is nice.
I see that this old coal hole has 11 levels.
Gad. I reel just thinking how much coal has been taken out of here.
The bottom levels, as you all better well know, might be flooded. Even though one would think that the deeper drifts are the most modern; that, as Spock would note, is two-dimensional thinking. It’s all for the greenbacks. If it’s easier to go east-west, then we make the mine plan according to larger, i.e., cover more lateral real estate. If we must go north-south (in a miner’s parlance) then dig we must and dig down, down, down into that cold, cold ground.
So the deepest levels are not necessarily the oldest. I have to refer to the legend of the map to figure out the chronology of this hole.
Or, I can look at the type of mining done. Surface? Earliest. Vertical shaft? A bit later. Deep room-and-pillar, the most recent.
It’s all very geological…
We bail out of the Land Cruiser near the headframe of the mine. We’re going in, and right to the bottom of level 11, which I sincerely hope is not flooded. At least, it wasn’t the last time anyone was down there.
I tell our driver to wait here; that Jerry Lee, Bob, and myself will handle the initial reconnaissance.
“Well, rock”, the driver says, scuffing his shoe and kicking a small piece of crinoidal limestone off into the pucklebrush, “If such that it was. I’m assigned to you as a sort of guide, and to keep an eye on you as well. There. I’ve said it. Going to shoot me now or later?”
“Shoot you? “, I gasp, “Think of the paperwork. The more the merrier, just don’t get in the way and…”
“Rock, I’ve been doing this for 30 years.” He groans.
“Well, then I guess I won’t have to chew your ass about proper PPEs, will I ?” I smile the smile of a smirking Smilodon and toss him a spare Scott airpack.
