Hey guys, I've got a few questions for anyone who has done ER nursing in the US military. It's hard to Google some of the more specific things.
- What hours do you work?
- What is the nurse/patient ratio like?
- Are you guaranteed to stay in ER or can they force you into another specialty?
- What is the patient population like compared to civilian EDs? How busy are military EDs typically?
- Do you like military ER nursing, and would you recommend it compared to civilian side?
- Is it difficult to join as an ER nurse, and do they try to have you join as a nurse without a specific specialty?
I'm relatively new to nursing and I'm working on my bachelor's degree. I'm considering going to the military side after I get my BSN and I'm trying to weigh all the options.
I hear there are great benefits but I canβt really find much info on it without speaking to recruiters
I want to figure out how the medical workers (both Doctors and nurses and EMTs) fit into the hierarchy on board a ship, regularly and in emergencies. What authority do they have and how far can they go? Does the Captain of a ship have authority over them even in the pursuit of their craft and what kind of liberty does the medical staff get when the lives of injured/sick are concerned?

Been in the military (doing cybersecurity) for over 10 years got honorable discharge to nursing school (BS in Nursing). Got my bachelors in nursing degree and completely burnout. I want to go back to school for a Master's degree and only know cybersecurity other than nursing; however, I only had military training for it and no civilian experience. Would this career change be ideal? What can I do to better myself in cybersecurity (most likely going for a GS/federal job after this Master's in Cybersecurity)?
