PSL7 Draft Procedure:

The HBLPSL7 Draft will be held in High Performance Center Lahore on Sunday, 12/12/21 at 3 PM PST. The procedure of the draft have remained mostly similar to years gone by, except an addition of a RTM card, also known as Right to Match, I will be explaining that below.

Anyhow the Drafts have a few key components:

Categories: PSL has 6 categories, namely Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging & Supplementary. Each team can have three platinum, diamond, gold players each along with five silver players, two emerging & supplementary each.

Overseas Players: PSL rules stipulates that a team must have a minimum of one, and a maximum of two overseas players in platinum and diamond categories each & by the time the gold rounds end, they must have atleast three overseas player in their overall squad. A team can have a maximum number of six overseas players in the squad and play a maximum number of four in their playing XI.

Retentions: PSL rules allow teams to retain a maximum number of 8 players, there is no minimum or maximum number of players that need to be retained in each category, neither is their a limit on how many overseas players they can retain. Teams can make players Brand Ambassador & Team Mentor to relegate their category once. Each card can only be used once. The retentions can be seen here

Draft Picks: The pick order for the first few categories is randomized, while the pick order for the rest of the categories is generated by a software based on the order of the first few categories. The order of the draft picks can be seen here

Right to Match: For the 2022 event, the PCB has introduced the Right to Match Card. This means each side will have one such card they can utilise during the draft to pick a player originally released from their roster.

In a sudden announcement that caught the strategic community off guard, US President Joe Biden joined the PMs of the UK and Australia to announce a new strategic alliance - AUKUS - that would see the US and UK transferring nuclear-propelled (but not nuclear armed) submarine technology to Australia. With this, Australia would become the third Quad member, after India and the US, to possess nuclear-propelled submarine technology, potentially giving it a range well into China's littoral waters as well as the vast southern Indian Ocean. The move was condemned by China, Malaysia, and Indonesia as the start of a new arms race in the region, while Singapore welcomed it. France also condemned the deal for commercial reasons - Australia cancelled a $100 bn conventional submarine agreement with France's Naval Group. Hello! The 6th edition of the PSL begins tomorrow. Here's a quick write-up and summary of the teams + what to expect this season for anyone who's looking to follow the league & get involved - it promises to be a cracker.

In every sport, every league, every fan has a team that they secretly want to see lift the trophy, other than their own. In the PSL, this team is almost always the Lahore Qalandars. Led by a skipper mostly unknown even to followers of Pakistan domestic cricket (but with a heartening backstory) and a coach who's received a lot of flak for the team's underperformance, the Qalandars have cemented themselves as the underdog team over the five seasons of the league.

Their journey has been chaotic, spending too much money on big names who didn't live up to expectations - Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers - and going through too many captains - Brendon McCullum, Mohammad Hafeez and AB himself to name a few - just to end up with 11 wins in 36 games in their first 4 editions, finishing last each time. The manner of these losses ranged from heartbreaking collapses to silly ones, last-ball chokes to just poor cricket, being bowled out for the 2nd-lowest T20 total of all-time then nearly winning it - classic Lahore. And when they won.. oh, how they won. In true Qalandars fashion.
