Marshalltown trowel Puns

I'm going to do field work for the first time this summer, even though I come from a bachelor's in Art and Heritage Sciences (basically museums).

Is there anything I should know before going?

I'd like to get a gift for someone who's graduating high school and going to college to study forestry and archaeology. She ultimately wants to work for the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, or the like doing public archaeology. Are there any good books someone could recommend that would be a nice gift for something with those interests?

I have a lot of plastering to do at home with a variety of surfaces that need a lot of work. Will be rendering too. I’m also wanting to become an apprentice so the tools I buy will need to have a solid “shelf life.” Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

My sister and I did a small renovation for a 1/2 bathroom in my parents' house. Below is a list of most of the materials I've used and also any mistakes/tips/etc that I can give.

Before (I did not get the mastic tested, I just assumed it contained asbestos due to when the house was built and since it is considered non-friable, I wasn't too concerned because I did not grind any of it off. Fortunately, the tiles popped right off due to poor install, after that, I laid LVP directly on it.

Mistakes/Tips/Misc

• If you plan on skim coating, purchase a skimming blade, you will likely read/watch the same tutorials I did and may end up purchasing a Magic Trowel, which I did and while it worked okay, I ended up stumbling upon skimming blades, which made skimming a lot easier for a novice. Also, Marshalltown skimming blades were almost 1/2 the price of other brands.

• Before applying any primer to your skim coated walls, make sure you shine a flashlight across the wall to see any imperfections and fix them. Make sure you sand these down so you do not see any ridges with the light shining across it, these will be seen on the finish result if you don't.

• Use Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler (do not purchase the professional strength, does not sand as easily) to fill any gaps, holes, etc. in your trim. From what I read, many recommended to use spackle (DAP Drydex) because it sands easy, which I also used, but ended up stumbling upon Elmer's, which also s

Hi! I'm going to be doing field school this summer in western NC (boone area). I have most of the supplies i'll need already, but I'm struggling in terms of clothes. I know I should be looking for long outdoor pants, but I have a small waist and large hips and NEED my pants to be high waisted. Literally every pair of work/hiking pants i've looked at are low-mid waisted. Can anyone give me suggestions? Also, I already have a MintCraft trowel from my mom, but should I go ahead and get a Marshalltown too? Is there a significant difference?

Ok, based on your collective feedback, I just ordered the above. I ordered the MarshallTown stuff straight from their website as Amazon was not cheaper and didn't have every model I wanted. The rest I ordered from Amazon. The tile saw dropped in price today from about $235 yesterday to $190, so I think that was a good buy. All together it was about $750. The estimated labor cost for my first project was about $650 - $900, so I figure my first project will break even, and I'll save a a few thousand doing the other stuff myself. Assuredly a pro could do it much faster and look better, but I'd only be able to afford getting the one project done this year.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
