Today I Learned the sinking of the MV Wilhelm Gustloff resulted in the loss of 9,400 German citizens. This makes it the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking, however it is a rather unknown event due to being overshadowed by all the news of WW2 ending around the same time. wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Wil…

Wilhelm Gustloff sinking experience (not made by THG).

Not related to THG, but the people who made the Titanic, Lusitania, and Britannic (before POTM was released) sinking experiences have made a new one about the Wilhelm Gustloff which is to be released on January 29th, 2021. Wilhelm Gustloff's Death on Steam (steampowered.com)

I'm glad that they're doing this because despite this ship being the worst maritime disaster, it is largely unknown to people, save for those in Germany and Poland.

One thing that I've noticed is that the trailer shows the ship sinking by the stern, when several other sources depict the ship going the bow first.

The Wilhelm Gustloff: The deadliest maritime disaster in history. Little known as it was at the hands of Allied forces in WW2.

https://youtu.be/lJ0BO0b9Km4

Although not as well known as the Titanic or Lusitania, no other ship sinking saw the greatest loss of life. Our family are well aware of it as my grandmother and g.grandmother were on it for a short amount of time before it left the harbour as they tried to escape Prussia. They got off due to overcrowding and if they hadnt I would not be able to post this video today.

Edit: wow the comments, I guess the refugees deaths didn't matter as there were also German soldiers on board. /s
