A list of puns related to "MIDI timecode"
Hi all,
I'm working on a hobby Christmas light show in ONYX On-PC using MIDI timecode with loopMIDI and Reaper for MTC generation/audio playback. Note that I'm new to ONYX as a whole so I've probably missed something stupid...
I've been chugging along making timecode cues for about two hours, then suddenly, and for no apparent reason, my cues stopped responding to the timecode. The timecode still shows on both the master clock in ONYX in the top right, and at the top of the cue list - I've tried stopping and starting the cue list and starting on a bunch of different cues, to no avail.
If I make a completely new show file and create a cue list, everything works as normal. I can't work out what I've done wrong.
Thanks in advance.
Quick Edit: I should note I'm using a slightly older release of ONYX before Timecode was changed to a 5-minute trial sorta deal. I'm still using the free licence.
Hello, After looking I cannot find an option for Timecode midi input on GrandMa3. I am using reaper with a midi feedback loop. Am I missing something? Thanks
Hello! I have used Onyx, Reaper, and R/D show cockpit to program my timecode. I have put the midi notes into reaper and then rd show cockpit has listened to those midi notes and sent the "Go To Cue In Cuelist" command to Onyx. By using this setup I do not need to create a new cue every time I want to use a design in my timecode by calling, for example, que 2 in quelist 4 every time C3 is sent as midi.
Now to the problem. After Onyx update 4.2.1057.0 the Onyx Driver for R/D ShowCockpit is not compatible with Onyx instead you should use Onyx OSC. Onyx OSC does not have the "Go To Cue In Cuelist" command so this breaks my whole workflow.
Does anyone of you have a solution to this? Or a different workflow?
Thanks in advance

I'm thinking of creating a guitar pedal-sized Arduino-based device that can serve as a backing track player for my band, so I don't have to bring my personal laptop when we play. Are there any libraries or frameworks that would allow the selection of a MIDI file from a MicroSD card and it's playback out to MIDI devices? I would also be using an mp3 player shield or something similar to play the audio files simultaneously.
Hello!
We're running some tracks from qlab and are sending midi to a couple of rosendahl timecode readers so the conductor and show caller can keep track of what's going on. We're hiring gear at the minute, but are looking into buying our own. The rosendahls are great, but seem overkill for our purposes.
Thought about software, but would rather have a physical display
Anyone know where I might find a small, basic no frills timecode displays?
Thanks!
I need to write a program that plays a sequence of images or a video file in sync with a DAW (Cubase, Ableton etc) via Time Code. The idea is for me to be able to design the visuals of my own music performing live sets in After effects specifically catered to each individual music piece, perfectly in sync, then have the software (the soft I'm researching this for) to playback that video file perfectly in sync with the music by keeping in time with the timecode of my host. So if I stop the DAW, the video stops, if I roll back to an earlier time or skip to a different point, the software would also skip to the equivalent time in the video. I want to be able to sample / color pick an x/y point in the video/image sequence and send that data to an outboard controller over serial. Now I can research the serial data communication myself, I've already found some resources on that. What I'm interested now are any libraries or learning resources you could recommend to achieve:
> Reading MIDI Time Code.
> Playback of video / image sequence in sync to the Time Code
> Sample a color at a certain position on the video / image sequence.
The rest I figure out.
Most importantly, keep aside all pre-existing softwares that may already be on the market. This project is for work experience, portfolio and to satisfy my interest and drive to build a system like this. I genuinely would like to make this myself. I have sufficient programming experience to teach myself new aspects.
Hello all.
I've recently decided that I want to the financial plunge and graduate from my Mixtrack to a more advanced set up.
I had my eye on the Gemini CDJ-700, and the Behringer DDM4000. I know both brands get a bad rep in terms of industry standards and general quality but each item has stood out in quality as far as reviews have stated.
The interesting thing about each of them, though, is they both have midi functionality, and I think that sort of defeats the purpose of even grabbing a copy of Trakor Scratch for them.
So would the only reason to go with Timecoded CDs be for scratching? I imagine the built effects would also be unusable in MIDI mode.
Lighting guy here. i'm looking to make our video playback more "efficient"
TL;DR: any advice on getting a tighter sync between ableton on stage and a laptop triggering visuals at FOH with minimal/no delay, but able to tour and be portable/scalable.
What we have right now is Ableton on stage sending a MIDI note over a wireless network we run off an airport at FOH. I get that note at FOH on my laptop that triggers playback on Qlab. I like the simplicity of our system, but I have one MAJOR issue.
Delay! We've tried to use hardline, but that is not always an option. Timecode is possible, but not preferred. The tempo doesn't change, and the video are a single file edited to the same track ableton is playing. there shouldn't be a need to sync timecode just to stay on track, but our current method sometimes has a delay on triggering QLab.
How can i help make sure that the track and the video start at the exact same moment. My issue with timecode is that the set changes. With midi we have just laid a midi track with the notes tied to different clips and we jump around the session as the set changes.
new to video/vj and syncing to ableton and just need to learn more about networking.
Iβve had a regular gig for the past few months, and things have been going fantastic. Iβve been playing almost entirely deep and funky house for a post-brunch drinking crowd in a very trendy spot. Love it. Today, though, they invited me to handle their Halloween party, playing primarily 80s with some Top 40 thrown in the mix. Big change of pace, but Iβve done it before, so I know what Iβm doing. Hereβs the dilemmaβ
Iβve slimmed down my gear by quite a bit over the years as I wasnβt playing regularly. I essentially run with a Kontrol S8 and an F1.
In a past life, when I played open format 3-4 nights a week, I played on an N7S in Serato or with a pair of DN S3000s and timecode in Traktor. I could touch my music, which was critical for me as a flowed through different BPM ranges. I have some practicing to do with my S8 here to see what I can do, but I worry it wonβt cut it for me.
I want to find a quick (and hopefully cheap) solution for some form of platter(s) to add on next to my S8. HID would be fantastic, but a quality MIDI jog wheel or timecode would probably be fine too. A pair of them would be great, but I would sacrifice down to only one of it meant much better quality.
Orβ¦ I could just run with what I have and maybe sound just mediocre for a nightβ¦ Iβm also not opposed to sucking it up and spending a few hundred dollars if it made a lot of sense (break even on the gig and walk away with new gear π€£)
Letβs see where this conversation takes us.
Hi Guys,
ApologiesΒ if this has been discussed but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I'm looking to add a 3rd turntable to my setup and getting traktor scratch to use DVS. I have a xone 96 on the way as well. I have an old but perfectly working Audio 4 DJ interface but this is not good for 3 turntables as it only supports 2 channels.
My question is this, given that the xone 96 has a built in soundcard I would only need to purchase Traktor Pro 3 and of course the timecodedΒ vinyl, right? Other than that I would simply assign all turntables to Traktor and I should be good to go?
My final question is what do you guys recommend as midi controllers? and would I need a controller for each turntable? I really don't wanna be staring at the screen all the time.
I dabbled a bit with DVS a long time ago so pardon the maybe obvious questions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
I've a typical full-audio DJ setup, from pre 2000 era, in the form of a 4-channel DJ mixer (DNX-1500) and 2 Technics 1210s. I also keep a CDJ-800 that has clearly grown more useless to me as I no longer keep an optical drive on my computers anymore to burn discs with.
I can definitely appreciate the convenience of keeping my music on USB sticks. I should also add that I'm a casual DJ, just wanting to keep in practice (all 4/4 stuff, house, prog, tech, electro, mid-tempo, etc), so I don't need a nightclub or touring grade setup... just ideally work within what I have with the possible addition of something to add digital music into this.
So, is there a way to use my current mixer and TTs with controller-vinyl and some other device or software and keep my setup untouched but somehow add in the ability to use purely digital music?
Do digital music players exist with multiple audio outputs?
I definitely want to keep my TTs and mixer in the picture if at all possible.
In terms of priority, the TTs must remain in the picture.
Theyβre on standbi

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
There hasn't been a post all year!
