Hey guys, made a list of vodkas I have yet to try from my local liquor store. Which one is the best? (Not value-wise, just based on overall taste/smoothness)
Russian Standard Original, Reyka, Chopin, Luksusowa, Sobieski, Stolichnaya, Belvedere, Ketel One
Try it sometime if it's at your store. Shoot it cold and neat. I won't say anymore, lest the hype would build...
Ive been drinking russian standard for years looking to change things up. I don't like flavoured vodka any recommendations would be highly appreciated.
After several years of purchasing Sobieski I decided to mix it up and try something different. Mainly because of Sobieski using plastic for the 1.75 L bottles, they just seem too cheap and ruin the spirit. I am big fan of the Luksusowa I got. It seems noticeably soother and has a more neutral flavor. If this is typical of potato based vodkas I may be sold on them. Though the best vodkas I have had seem to be wheat based, but the price point remains higher.
Title is pretty self-explanatory but which set of Vodka, or variant, is considered the best?
Just tried Luksusowa, and YES. it IS SMOOTH.**** As everyone has been suggesting, in terms of value and bang for buck, luksusowa is always mentioned. So I tried it.
However, just cause it feels smooth, it doesn't mean it TASTES "smooth". It is smooth, but comes with that plastic bottle hand sanitizer FLAVOR at the end of it. Of course, for the price, you really shouldn't expect anything less, but that's really where it shines: value. You get top shelf smoothness but bottom shelf flavor, and I think that's where you have to distinguish yourself as a drinker. Do you prefer body/finish over flavor? Or do you prefer Flavor over harshness?
If you answer the former, then Luksusowa is an awesome and worthwhile bang for buck product in terms of smoothness. But again, doesn't mean the flavor is great. In my experience, flavor is easier to come by than smoothness, so the level of smoothness it pertain hold some legitimate weight. It just on you, as an individual, what you prefer and look for in a vodka.
As someone who was hopeful and excited in trying Luksusowa, I was not let down. I think its worth exactly how much it costs, and that says a lot imo. I would, however, trade some of its smoothness for a better flavor if it was possible.
PS, It tastes best at room temp, not frozen/cold. The smoothness is accentuated at room temp, and cold/frozen you just get that flavor w/o the smoothness (the temp makes it irrelevant).
For 30 dollars, this stuff is considerably more smooth and delicious than the vodka I usually drink in the 20-22 dollar range. If you are thinking about spending a little more on a bottle, but want to make sure that it was worth it, this is the way to go.
Thank you to the person on this forum who recommended it to me!
Just out there trying few brands. So far have tried smirnoff, zubrowska, absolut and grey goose. And what would be your fav brand?
I have only ever drank Ketel One. My friend in college told me that it was the "cheapest good vodka" and I have stuck with it ever since.
I have watched some vodka reviews on youtube and people are like, "that's a really smooth vodka" or "I could sip that". If you spend 50 bucks on a vodka, is it really smoother?
Most importantly, if I do spend more, how do I ensure that it doesn't taste exactly the same as ketel one and I didn't waste 30 dollars on absolutely nothing?
Hello, I live in Canada (province of Ontario) and liquor is pretty expensive here compared to the states. So far, I have only tried one brand of vodka (Smirnoff), and I would like to branch out and see if other brands in a similar price range are any better.
Within my price range, I could buy:
Russian Standard, for $30
Russian Standard Gold, for $33
Finlandia for $30
Stolichnaya for $30
Luksusowa for $28
Tito's for $34
Prince Igor $28
Between these vodka's the price difference does not matter much to me, but could be a deciding factor if two vodka's are of similar quality. I just cannot afford $50+ dollar bottles of Chopin or Belvedere or the likes. The vodka will be consumed mostly on its own at fridge temperature.
Hi all, thinking it's about time to pick up another handle of vodka to drink chilled and neat. I've had Luksusowa but it was awhile ago and it was drowned in ice so I don't have a great frame of reference for that, Sobieski I've only had in White Russians so same deal with that, and finally I don't believe I've ever had Finlandia. What should I go with?
Dear All,
I wanna start drinking neat vodka, but no idea with which one to start of the ones they have at the liquor mart. Could you please advise me vodka drinkers ???
In advance, thank you very much.
Edit: neat
But itโs worth a shot
I live in Turkey. There aren't too many options. I don't like Absolut and Smirnoff. What do you think about those vodkas in title ?
They're cheap except Finlandia. But I don't know how good they are.
Thanks
I am not Polska. Nevertheless, Luksusowa, Nazdrovya!
In my twenties I drank so much cheap vodka (think Popov) and so much cheap gin (think Gordons) that I was off hard liquor for over 20 more years. Throughout my 30's and 40's I was a beer man, and later a cork dork wine ferret looking for obscure wines. Now, in my 50's I'm re-exploring gins and vodkas with an eye for sipping not chugging. This week, I'm looking for a weekly vodka within the confines of what is available in the NC ABC realm of availability in the $15-$30 range. The news is very good, despite having state restricted brand access. In fact, I've found several worthy contenders within just a few rounds of testing. Previously sampled include cult favorite Titos, various Stolis and Absoluts. This week I'm exploring potato vodkas and a cult fav from Iceland made of imported grains.
Typically, I pre-chill vodka and gin in the freezer and store it in the refrigerator. Usually, I drink it with seltzer water, bitters or as Bloody Marys at brunch. Occasionally, I'll drink it straight or with vermouth. I don't usually go in for complex cocktails, so it's important that the liquor be clean and smooth.
For this series of samples pour quantities were kept to 1 oz vodka per drink, and unless noted otherwise, mixer was also keep to 1 oz for 1:1 ratio since this was a vodka test not a cocktail test. For the Bloody Mary simulator, I dispensed with making actual Bloody Marys and just used 1oz vodka with 2oz Clamato and a squeeze of lemon juice. Prices are listed in (750ml/1.75L) format, though 1.75L ("handles") are not available in many NC ABC stores in many brands.
Reyka - ($19.95/39.95) small batch handcrafted vodka made in Iceland from grain alcohol imported from Scotland re-distilled and filtered in Iceland
Neat - hint of rubbing alcohol, grassy back taste
w/Lemon Lime Seltzer 1:1 - just an alcoholic seltzer
w/Canada Dry Club Soda 1:1 and a dash of Angostura Orange bitters - only real scent or flavor is of orange bitters
Blue Ice - ($16.95/34.95) - handcrafted American potato vodka in a fancy artisanal blue bottle
Neat - slightly rounder mouthfeel than Reyka, but without cloying sweetness
w/Lemon Lime Seltzer 1:1 - neutral alcoholic seltzer
w/Canada Dry Club Soda 1:1 and dash of Angostura Orange bitters - vodka disappears; stealth vodka w/strong hints of orange
Chopin ($26.95/49.95) - premium Polish potato vodka
Anyone ever had Alchemia Vodka? It's one of my favourites but I've only ever found it in one corner shop for ยฃ20. It seems tough to get online too. Is probably not the best vodka, but for the price point it's unbelievably smooth.
Wondering what your guysโ thoughts on this were. What brand of vodka do you pick for taking a shot, what would you pick for making cocktails, and what would you pick for drinking alone either neat or on the rocks?
Sure, getting drunk is fun and all, but I really love the taste of vodka more than the being drunk part.
I drink vodka straight daily, like how one enjoys Coke. I love the burning feeling in my mouth and throat, like a hot pepper. I love the thickness of the swallow of a drink.
I dont like being drunk. I take vitamins and eat a lot of starchy foods and try to negate the drunk effects, because I love the taste of smooth, delicious, straight vodka.
Anyone else?
EDIT: Yes, I understand I'm an alcoholic if I casually drink vodka throughout the day, that isn't the point. The point is I enjoy the taste, always have. It hasn't affected me in any negative way (yet) so I'm not looking for support in that area, but thank you.
OP, who doesn't drive, pays a $99 a year subscription fee for free deliveries from Target. She asked for a bottle of Tito's vodka but received a bottle of Skyy with the security tag left on. She assumed the bottle was stolen and reported the delivery driver. She also ubered to the local target to see that they still had Tito's in stock.
(For anyone who is confused, she lives in San Francisco in the US where grocery stores are allowed to sell liquor).
Most commenters had some problems with this chain of events.
Many responded to ask why she thought it was stolen at all, and she argues about her reasons for reporting him. This repeats a few times with the argument devolving into whether or not she could have simply gotten the vodka for herself.
At one point she responds she is agoraphobic.
More redditors arguing over the feasibility of the story.
Lastly, I will leave you with a few short exchanges where commenters call the OP a snitch and a Karen.
It helps take the Smirnoff

Iโd appreciate any recommendations for a good vodka that would make a nice gift for someone who can normally only afford the cheapest vodka. Itโs a joint birthday and thank you gift (for help heโs given my family during the pandemic). I know he doesnโt like flavoured vodka, but thatโs about all I do know. He used to be a whisky drinker but now prefers vodka.
Iโm in the U.K. and my budget is around ยฃ30 to ยฃ40. Iโd prefer to be able to buy via Amazon or from Asda online grocery deliveries (Iโm disabled and completely housebound so I canโt go out to shops to buy anything). I donโt drink so I havenโt got a clue about what to buy. Iโve tried looking on Amazon but just got completely confused lol. Any help would be appreciated.
