This post contains talk of mental illness and may contain some horror elements, so if you aren't cool with that, don't read this.
I recently wrote a super expanded theory on Fran Bow and Little Misfortune where I go into great detail on every aspect of the greater story. That theory was both long and in no way appropriate for this sub. That being said, I think that only talking about small chunks of the story will allow for intricate discussion while keeping things PG-13. Because of this, the theory might not make a whole lot of sense to those who haven't played the game or seen the GTLive on both games. Ok, let's get into it
In the game Little Misfortune, there are many characters to love, from the derpy Dog to the Little Lady Misfortune herself. Yet, it is Benjamin, the sentient fox, that consistently ranks among the top of favorite characters for the game. Benjamin is the protector, a being capable of detecting the imbalance in the F.R.E.E, of Misfortune while she is being hunted by the parasite Morgo, and he is the first character to be named as a protector in this series. Is Benjamin the first protector that the player meets in the Fran Bow and Little Misfortune games though? Well of course not. Why would I set up a question only to answer it with a simple yes? No, rather, evidence points toward Itward, the lanky skeleton we meet in Fran Bow, being the first protector we meet.
The protectors have a very clear set of guidelines that they must follow, so if Itward's behaviors match those described then it would be reasonable to assume that he is at the very least affiliated with the protectors.

Letβs start with, βSTEP TWO Use the surroundings to help the victim become aware of the parasite. The Protector can, for example, write and paint simple messages in public spaces, to increase awareness. It is strictly forbidden to interact directly with the victim. It could lead to irreversible trauma inside the victimβs mind. If the parasite kills the victim, you will need to proceed to STEP THREE immediately!β
While it might not be clear at first, we see Itward exhibit all these behaviors during the course of Fran Bow.
