A list of puns related to "List of symphony composers"
A flashbach.
I wonder of the patron objects to Madama Butterfly too?
I'm finishing my masters in music composition right now and will probably stream the composition process once I finish school next month.
What do you think the name of the composition should be? What words and concepts define this time for you? Maybe your thoughts will change as this process continues but let me know what you think.
I was personally thinking the title could be: "EIGHT OH FUCKING ONE"
but I want to hear your opinions and thoughts π
Vivaldi Bach Mozart Beethoven Paganini Chopin Ernst Tchaikovsky Ysaye Sibelius Rachmaninoff Shostakovich
Sorry if the question is poorly worded, but I'd be interested to hear some other composers who wrote music as mammoth as the symphonies of the composers I mentioned. Thanks.
Jeremy Soule is one of the most well-known names in video game music. He's composed the music for some high-profile games such as the Harry Potter PC games, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Guild Wars series, and the Elder Scrolls series, as well as many, many other games throughout the years. He reached #5 on the UK station Classic FM's 2013 Hall of Fame vote. He's been counted as a favorite composer of many, and to this day some still fret about his potentially not being involved with The Elder Scrolls VI, saying the series wouldn't be the same without him.
As fantastic as his work is, he's certainly been a figure of controversy in the past. He once compared music piracy to the Holocaust. And then DirectSong, his online store where he sold his soundtracks, became notorious for not fulfilling paid orders, to the point that it got an F rating from the Better Business Bureau and a class action lawsuit was put together. Some saw it coming, but many didn't: eventually his Kickstarter would follow suit.
2013: The Kickstarter's Beginning
In the spring of 2013, Soule was enjoying a peak of popularity from his soundtracks for Guild Wars 2 and the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Many weren't aware of his past controversies, and simply enjoyed the music he'd created for the games. He announced in March 2013 that he was launching a Kickstarter for his first symphony, "The Northerner". This made folks excited, especially when he described it as a continuation of the work he'd done for Skyrim. The project quickly reached a funding of over $120,000, many times more than its $10,000 goal.
At first, things seemed to be proceeding in a straightforward manner. Early updates included details about the recording studio they planned to use, and the estimated date they intended to book it (September of 2013, which was what was listed as the delivery date for the Kickstarter). Soule posted in May that the first movement was complete, and then in August that all four movements were mostly done. As the planned recording date approached, Soule [posted that the symphony would be delayed a few months](https://www.kickstarter.com/project
... keep reading on reddit β‘Theres a never ending debate about classical music being snobby, and maybe I'm guilty, but I'm here to have an earnest discussion, hopefully among fellow experts or people who know more than me.
The example I instantly hop to is Mahler. His symphonies are an immense project, whether its heaven and hell, or life and death, his symphonies capture a deeper philosophy. Background aside, the music itself is a masterpiece, which goes beyond beautiful and to the "sublime". Long story short, his works do something art aspires to, taking a purely sensory medium and communicates with us on an emotional, intellectual, and transcendent level.
The modern discourse loves damning and reducing the Western Canon to a product of imperialism, and they love using Mozart as a prime example, who i find to be a very superficial and repetitive composer, though very productive. And I know Nietzsche was more of a Wagner fanboy, but i would imagine he would've loved Mahler as well, and would similarly motivate Birth of Tragedy.
Let me know your thoughts on my take. Are there composers better than Mahler? If not, is there anyone outside of classical music that has the ability to reach the sublime?
Disclaimer: Rusalka does get performed a lot but it's the exception to the rule.
Edit: thanks for the gold!
I made a cover of Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 - I've made other songs but I have yet to screen record them. Feel free to add me and check out my composer island? 4000054052GE
