A list of puns related to "List of mountaineering equipment brands"
Hello campingandhiking. I'm 28 and have been hiking since I was 5 years old, but I have never been winter hiking. This is largely because my winter sport has always been snowboarding, so I usually dedicate all my time and funds towards that. This winter for various reasons, I am unable to snowboard, so I want to check out winter hiking this year.
I have a basic gear list, and I have a lot of the warm weather gear from snowboarding which I can just use. I will need some boots, mini spikes (or crampons), and snowshoes. A lot of this stuff, especially the boots, can be quite costly. Any have any recommendations on where to go for the best deals?
Also, should I invest in hiking poles for the winter? I don't use them year round, but winter hikes are a different animal.
I don't plan on doing ice-climbing or anything like that, just staying on the main trails.
Many thanks.
Hi all, I'm just starting to plan my Sprinter conversion and am doing a ton of research / planning in advance. I'm starting with electrical and plumbing, since those are the parts that seem like they constrain the design space most and need to have groundwork laid first. The trouble I'm running into is that there doesn't seem to be something like "the digikey/mcmaster-carr of conversion van equipment", a place with high quality products (ruling out amazon), and a selection so vast that they're more concerned with helping you search than promoting some item.
Don't get me wrong, I think there's a lot of value in forming a relationship with a distributor so that you can ask questions and get sanity checked, but so far I haven't found one that has carried everything that all the others carry, which means I haven't found one that won't try to steer me towards the products they happen to have. What I'd really like, in the absence of finding the "we target companies instead of individuals, and we carry everything" distributor, is to find a list of as many equipment brands as I can, so that I can manually compare and contrast their offerings. Yes, I know there are a lot of them, I've been reading lists of inverter/chargers for several days at this point... and I still get the suspicion I'm missing big names.
Does such a thing exist? If not, is there interest in compiling such a list as a wiki page for this subreddit?
SOLD
Heading out on the road for a month, would love to sell this before I leave. Will let it go for $100 + shipping.
Want to get into mountaineering or winter camping on car camping budget? I've got the perfect tent for you. This is a brand new vintage deadstock REI Geo Mountain 2/3 Person tent.
This tent was given to me a couple of years ago when I worked at REI. One of my "weekly" customers came in to say goodbye because he was moving south and downsizing and he had some gear he wanted to gift me. One of those items was a brand new tent he bought for a trip out west and never used. I've never had a use for it so it has sat in my gear closest until today when it was set up for the first time ever and it shows. This thing is pristine. The white is bright white, the blue is bright blue and there are no problems whatsoever. I swear its newer than any tent sitting at REI right now despite being 20 years old. No de-lamination, everything is great. The poles are straight as an arrow and the cord inside them is still tight.
This tent is feature-rich for a tent its age. There are two vestibules/doors including one hooped tunnel with a large vent and wind flaps on the sides. Each door has a large hook to lock it in place in the worst of storms. Sleeps 2 extremely comfortably or 3 when you're close with each other.
Weighs just a hair over 10 pounds. I left it up overnight to double check everything and we got some rain, everything inside stayed perfectly dry. This is a bomber tent.

Not sure how to exactly price this tent. It was $500 when new and is still brand new but obviously not something manufactured recently. So...
Asking $250 $175 $150 or best offer plus shipping. That's less than half of what most mountaineering tents go for. Open to any reasonable offers. Hoping to ship today to pay for my broken windshield.
For most of us gyms are still closed, that doesn't mean we stopped looking forward to our next mountain. Let's also train for it!
Some of you guys asked me if I can make a routine that can be done from home using minimal equipment. I made 2.
Check out the first one below, I'll post the second on my channel in a week:
If we ever get a third installment in the franchise, I think standard troopers would need more to work with in terms of variety and customization in their arsenals, plus it would give players more to work towards as they build their ideal troopers for each class (assault, specialist, heavy, officer, and letβs throw in engineer for fun). Lists of heroes and reinforcements are easy to find in this sub, but want to see more wishlists for weapons and equipment. Troopers are what define most of the gameplay anyway
Also, how many moons would be visible to the naked eye on Mars?
Got this free on Epic, never thought it would be my thing, but... yeah it's fun. And yet I have no idea what I'm doing as far as equipment. Which got me curious... did you all just learn the equipment by playing or are a lot of players actual farmers or had an interest in this stuff? I wanna pick up the straw on my field after harvesting and I'm just baffled trying to go through the shop to know what I need for it and I don't have a clue what even half the basic equipment is for.
(I'm not even especially looking for hints, just curious about people who play this a lot)
EDIT: I do have one question - is there somewhere in-game that explains the different icons(for instance under certain things in the shop)? I found some icons explained in the help section but there's a good number that aren't.
EDIT2: WOW! Thanks for all the responses and hints everyone and it's cool to see how everyone got to this game. I don't think I can get back to every comment individually but thanks much! Having a lot of fun with this game.
I suppose by the time the iron age rolled around, the technological necessities for equipment like pitons and crampons would have been there. And just for abseiling, I think there is a lot you can do with just rope. Hemo rope is definitely plenty strong enough to hold a human.
But what is the earliest evidence for the kind of sheer wall climb?
Maybe medieval or renaissance?
Hoping to get into music production. I feel really inspired by him
New in the box, size 10.5 US men's. Asking $225.
Located in Concord, New Hampshire. Will ship.
Made for serious winter hiking above treeline, these boots retail for $400.
At the top of my list is ice axe and crampons. I think I need around a 65-70cm ice axe
Apologies if this isn't an acceptable line of questions for the sub. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
We live in Florida and purchased a home about 7 miles from the gulf coast south of Tampa (hurricanes are a consideration). The house uses right around 2,000 kWh each month, but August and September peaked at close to 2500 (older AC inefficient AC system). We have a good roof situation for solar and would like to pull the trigger soon. The main goal is to secure an energy bill of around $200/month since costs here are set to rise soon.
I have gotten several proposals and have narrowed it down to 3 options. Two are local companies (PES Solar & Excel Home Solar) that have been in business a good while and have great reviews. The third is a local SunPower dealer who is also well-reviewed (Freedom Solar).
My main question is related to equipment and company stability. Is there any benefit (other than maybe lower cost) to going with one of the local companies over the SunPower dealer? Should I be more concerned about the risk of the local guys shutting down at some point and leaving me with out warranty protections?
Additional Qs:
Is Sun Power equipment (panels and inverters) that much better that it's a safer long-term investment? The others use Silfab or Hanwha Q cells
The Sun Power warranties seem better, but maybe I'm falling victim to a good pitch?
Are the installers actually allowed to bundle new AC into the solar loan and tax credit?
We are worried about potentially losing power during a storm. Is a battery (probably Tesla or Generac) worth the high added cost? We probably cannot get more than 1 just to power the well water pump and maybe a few outlets. If two is enough to power AC we could maybe consider that.
To get a system big enough to offset 100% of our energy use, we'd need to up our insurance to a $1 mil policy. Is this worth is or is there a workaround? (Excel offered to install more panels as a second project to get out of needing to upgrade insurance)
What questions am I not thinking to ask?
Thanks again for any advice about going solar. Cheers!

^^^^ The tent in question.
Hello, I'm new here and I realize a lot of you are seasoned vets so this may seem silly.. A little more than a year ago my 55L North Face pack and its contents were stolen from my car, and I've decided it's finally time to re-purchase some of them and get back into the hobby.
I'm pressed for money, but would like a new pack and tent for the upcoming summer. My budget for a tent is ~$120. Would this be a terrible product for me, my girlfriend, and our 25 lb dog?
It would be used for both car camping and small backpacking trips(10-20 miles), and at the moment I currently live in Tennessee.
Thanks.
This is a post to spread awareness that the Strathclyde University Mountaineering club was robbed yesterday morning just before departing for a four day trip to the Isle of Skye.
At about 10:50am on 1st April, the club were loading a 6 seater red AMK hire van with equipment inside a secure car park outside Strathclyde university's union when an unknown individual quietly got into the front of the van and aggressively drove off before anyone could react. One individual was mildly injured chasing the van on foot.
It is estimated that up to Β£30,000 (not including the van) worth of walking, climbing and skiing equipment, clothes and electronics were stolen from about twenty people.

A couple of weeks ago someone on this community asked me if I can make a strength routine preferably using minimal equipment. This is the second part of that routine:
