YA/Adult Fantasy - young girl finds out she is heir to a kingdom. an uprising puts her on the throne, and she marries a young noble in a marriage of convenience, who eventually falls in love with her.
the young noble's family, including his parents and younger sister, is killed by the previous king's followers, i believe after the queen is placed on the throne.
There is also a sub-plot where another young girl who is part of the resistance, expects her older sister to marry a man to be heir to her family property, however instead her sister marries the oldest son. She is set up to marry his younger brother (?), who she eventually falls in love with.
The queen never feels comfortable ruling, and at the end of the book, the queen runs away from the kingdom (possibly up a mountain?), leaving her husband to be king.
I read the book in the mid-late 2000s, and think the book has a dark red or otherwise dark coloured cover.

TIL: Charles XII of Sweden was killed via shot to the head while besieging a Danish Fortress in 1718. Theories about who killed him range from enemy fire, to an assassin hired by an heir to the throne. He has been exhumed three times since his death, (most recently 1917) yet the mystery remains.

Ivan the Terrible, Tsar of Russia, is popularly known for killing his son and heir to the throne, Ivan Ivanovich in a fit of rage. This strikes me as a particularly strange moment in the history of European nobility. How did the Russian aristocracy and other European nobles react to this news?

Do you know what those phrases added after someone's name are called? For example, Thor, son of Odin, heir to the throne of Asgard, weilder of Mjolnir, God of Thunder. Is there a name for those things?
The best I can think of is "titles", but I seem to recall there being a specific word or phrase for this. I just can't remember what it is.

Why is Miguel da Paz not the heir to the thrones of Portugal, Castile and Aragon between 1498-1500?
Came upon this post and comment on /r/imaginarymaps, and decided to check if you could pick a start date with Miguel da Paz as the heir to the countries mentioned in the title (and also technically to LeΓ³n). But based on my quick research, I couldn't find a date where he existed. If he was in the game, and didn't die at before the age of 2 (maybe you could have an event with a chance to save him at a great cost), it could be an interesting start date, especially for beginners, or people who wanted a quick start to forming the Roman Empire. I suppose it's just a matter of Paradox, or the players, not caring for start dates other than 11th of November 1444.

In countries in which the ruler is also the heir to the throne of another nation (like Achilles in Ansbach and Brandenburg) it should be considered whether or not the same person is considered alive or dead in the other nation.
I don't know if I wrote this understandably or not, just in case here's some context.
You may know that Brandenburg and Ansbach and Navarra and Aragon (don't really know if there are similar situations elsewhere) the same person is simultaneously the king of one country and heir to the other. Since the game considers them as different people (which is fair because these are very isolated circumstances) it can happen that the person dies in one country and is still alive and well in the other.
I find this a bit immersion breaking, thus I suggest creating small events for these two and eventual others with this peculiar situation, that result in the death of the person in the country they are still alive in for some rip in the space-time continuum

Roleplaying an heir to the throne
Hey all! I've been playing a Human Warlock for about 6 months now, and with the way our adventure is going, it looks like my PCs backstory is about to get pretty important. For some context, my Warlock, Bravalan, was the heir of a small nation. His father, the king, was killed, and the nation was overthrown (this happened when Bravalan was young). His goal is to unify his people and reinstate the nation. However, he has yet to reveal any of this to the party, and I'd rather hint at it rather than just outright say it. I've been making some small nods, but they aren't really picking up on it. Do you guys have any suggestions on how this should be hinted at? Any advice would be much appreciated!

[NO SPOILERS] Why would a Targaryan be considered the rightful heir to the throne?
Unless I'm completely off in my understanding, the Targaryans were overthrown by Robert Baratheon's army. As such, unless overthrown, wouldn't the "rightful" heir have to be a descendant? I'd assume that would be Gendry as it stands.
To me, a Targaryan claiming the throne would be the equivalent of Prince William claiming to be the next heir to the United States.
I realize none of this is relevant as whoever is victorious in this whole war is who's going to be the King or Queen, but in terms of rightful heir, anyone but a Baratheon doesn't make sense to me.
Edit: I think this question should be better clarified regarding the aftermath immediately following Robert's death. Since Robert's children were not actually his, is it safe to say that Stannis was the rightful heir? I'm only asking this question because Viserys from season 1, and subsequently Daenerys, have claimed to be the rightful heirs, but where I'm confused is that my assumption would be that since the Baratheon's overthrew them, that the lineage would stay within the Baratheon line. That obviously changes now due to all the deaths that have occurred over the last near decade.
