I know a lot of DJ names because of being a musician and music lover for 20yrs now, but am still a novice in my knowledge of Electronic music because it's not a genre I listen to often, outside of 1 or 2 songs a year that I end up really liking. Which is why I don't know what to look for to find more artists like Porter Robinson and what to call the rhythms/sequences/synths he uses so I can mimic that and kickstart my creative juices in this journey.
I'm a musician - Bassist by trade but also guitar and other misc. things - without a band for the first time in forever, so I picked up an MPK mini II and figured I'd try to start doing this on my own instead of dealing with 3+ other members. I already have an AI, mic, and DAW because I'm an actor too and do voiceover stuff. But as I said, still new to making Electronic music, so I figured I'd find an artist that appealed to me and kinda play copycat to figure out how things work.
I'm writing an essay on man's relation to technical objects with focus on the analog era of electronic music and want to somehow form a general idea of how the genre evolved over time.
An obvious choice for Jungle would be “Tree-house” but that may lead to some confusion as it’s not a sub-genre of house.

Inspired by the recent space disco thread. What are some niche or relatively unknown genres/trends in electronic music that you like?
The term 'electronic music' is incredibly broad and I think for most people there are definitely many subcultures and areas of music we just aren't aware of. I'm not much of a person who typically subscribes to the idea of meticulously precise cast-iron genres so that's why I opened this question up to general trends as well.
Please give us your favourite example tracks too!

One of the most amazing things about music is that its variety allows it to cater to the tastes of everyone despite the great differences in between people. This can also lead to a challenge, however, as, despite our best efforts to categorize music into genres that can be used to neatly describe specific styles, discussing tastes can be challenging to someone who is unfamiliar.
