That is all
The O/U for this game is 42. The Bills scored 44 points on Sunday.
Gold to whoever predicts closest the amount of passing yards that Cam and Flacco combine for tonight. I say 268.
On Monday night, the Arizona Cardinals were down by 11 points (28-17) against the Dallas Cowboys. With <2 minutes left in the game, the Cardinals were driving into Cowboys territory. In the game thread and according to commentator and former coach Jon Gruden, many people thought that the Cardinals should have kicked a field goal either as soon as they got into field goal range or when it was 4th and goal from the Cowboys 2-yardline. The Cardinals decided to go for the touchdown both times.
I'm here to prove that going for the touchdown was the correct call with as much quantitative data and reasoning that I can muster.
Summary of the situation: The Cardinals were down 28-17, an 11 point deficit, with <2 minutes left in the game and no timeouts. They needed either to score a touchdown with a 2-point conversion and a field goal to send the game to overtime, or they needed two TDs to win the game in regulation. Both required a successful onside kick, so chances were low that the Cardinals would pull it off no matter what.
There were three possible choices of action people were pushing for:
Option 1: The Cardinals could have kicked a field goal when they first got into field goal range. There were three potential plays when they could have done this:
1st and 10 at the Dallas 35 with 1:53 left in the game. (I believe this is when Jon Gruden first said that Arizona should kick the field goal, but I'm not positive.)
1st and 10 at the Dallas 24 with 1:46 left in the game.
2nd and 17 at the Dallas 31 with 1:24 left in the game.
To give the "field goal first" crowd the best chances, I'll assume scenario 2 (41-yard kick with 1:46 left in the game), since everybody should be able to agree (with hindsight) that that is the best situation for Arizona of the those three given options.
Option 2: The Cardinals could have kicked a field goal at 4th and goal from the Dallas 2-yardline with 40 seconds left in the game.
Option 3: The Cardinals could have gone for the touchdown at 4th and goal from the Dallas 2-yardline (20-yard field goal) with 40 seconds left in the game.
The problem with analyzing this is that that's actually two questions:
Holy shit bro my first year watching football and it feels like yesterday. Ten years ago people talked about our team how they talk about the Chiefs now.. young uber talented qb set to terrorize the league for years. Undefeated. Megatron. Suh. Talent talent talent all over the field.
I miss it so much.
One team will be 3-0 like the Buffalo Bills and the other will not
