A list of puns related to "List of Genesis band members"
This movie would be sick Imo.
One example I've heard, and an example that I think works surprisingly well, is Buddy Holly/the Crickets and the Quarrymen/the Beatles, who imo can almost pass for being a continuous band (let's call them "the Bugs").
1949 - First known recording by Buddy Holly is a Hank Snow cover that closely resembles the delta blues, one of the components of the multi-genre Voltron that makes up "rock and roll."
1950s - Holly and his band expand stylistically, recording both vanilla rockabilly/rock and roll and more adventurous songs, including a jazzy Cajun-inspired waltz with Waylon Jennings and King Curtis, classically-influenced orchestral pop, and a number of other quirky experiments including overdubbing and unconventional instruments [including a celesta (!), knee-slapping percussion (!!), and a typewriter (!!!)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everyday_(Buddy_Holly_song)). He also does record some more rootsy acoustic guitar songs, most notably his famous Apartment Tapes recorded in Greenwich Village - an early example of indie folk. In the late 1950s, three future Beatles met in Liverpool and formed a band called the Quarrymen, which performed a mixture of skiffle (a type of upbeat jazzy blues), original songs, and covers (including one of Holly's signature hits).
The early 1960s - The Beatles emerge, and are a bit more conservative at first than some of Holly's most adventurous records, with a predominance of straightforward rock and roll and Merseybeat songs and numerous covers of 1950s and contemporary songs, with two Shirelles covers on their first album alone. (In an alternate universe, these early Beatles albums and songs could be envisioned as "the Bugs" going back to their roots after Holly's tragic death.) However, the Beatles do not go quite so far as the Apartment Tapes and can more or less be placed at the midpoint of Holly's late career in terms of roots rock vs. experimental rock.
The mid-1960s - The Beatles gradually experiment more, releasing fewer covers and increasing the degree of genre-bending and experimentation to reach and then surpass the final years of Holly's life. Tomorrow Never Knows, a deeply psychedelic track t

Thought if we can all compile a list of all the albums by all ex and current members in one place.
Hi, the question is so simple, but I'm really struggling with the query.
Basically I want to take data that looks just like a band timeline, i.e.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/timeline/9320b689072521623f5ab8b9c88a14eb.png
where table of members has columns name
and timespan
,
and I would like a query that returns an array of names (i.e. the band) for each point in time
Im starting off by trying a window-function where the window wants to be "all rows that contain the lower-end of 'current-row's timespan"
However I'm getting confused by the filter matching everything, when it appears it shouldnt,
my table
testy=> select * from test;
name | timespan
-----------------+----------
James Hetfield | [1,8)
David Mustaine | [1,2)
Ron McGovney | [1,2)
Lars Ulrich | [1,8)
Cliff Burton | [2,4)
jason Newsted | [4,6)
Robert Trujillo | [6,8)
Kirk Hammet | [2,8)
my current query
testy=> select t.timespan, array_agg(split_part(name, ' ', 2))
FILTER(WHERE timespan @> lower(t.timespan))
OVER() as lower_names
FROM test t
;
timespan | lower_names
----------+--------------------------------------------------------------------
[1,8) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[1,2) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[1,2) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[1,8) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[2,4) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[4,6) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[6,8) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
[2,8) | {Hetfield,Mustaine,McGovney,Ulrich,Burton,Newsted,Trujillo,Hammet}
(8 rows)
I also tried with the timespan duration check as a PARTITION BY, and the query is still valid, but again it includes every column.
test creation sql:
CREATE TABLE public.test (
name text,
timespan int4range
);
INSERT INTO test(name, timespan) VALUES ('James Hetfield', '[1,8)'),
('David Mustaine', '[1,2)'),
('Ron McGovney', '[1,2)'),
('Lars Ulrich', '[1,8)'),
('Cliff Burton', '[2,4)'),
('jason Newsted', '[

Pretty interesting.

Like how Stevie's Silver Springs was written about Lindsay, and Christine's Songbird was about John, and Lindsay's Go Your Own Way was about Stevie ect.??
Sorry for reposting, I didn't tag my post correctly
I feel like with many of the major bands throughout history, there is almost always one or sometimes two driving creative forces behind the music, and some of the other members take a backseat to them. Pink floyd with Waters and Gilmour, the Beatles with lennon and mccartney, the Beach Boys with Brian Wilson. I feel like this is the case with many popular bands and I'm curious if there are any bands where this isn't the case, where all the members are equally represented in the music they are making. And if I'm wrong about any of the bands I listed, please let me know.
This is my first time posting here, so if it's not fully thought out or it's not clear what I'm trying to say, please let me know.
The bassist and the singers especially have me absolutely charmed. But all the articles and his website just list the dates and brag about his "12-piece ensemble" without listing a single name. :(
Member | Mentioned | Years In Band |
---|---|---|
Flea | 366 | 32 |
John | 282 | 14 |
Hillel | 171 | 5 |
Jack (Irons and Sherman) | 81 | 4?/1 |
Chad | 73 | 27 |
Bob | 69 | basically a member |
Anthony or Tony | 57 | 32 |
Dave | 54 | 5 |
Blackie | 41 | |
Rick | 34 | |
Cliff | 30 | 3 |
Some data is skewed, like he talks about Jack Nicholson getting with his girl and so on, but thought the results were pretty cool nonetheless
It was a great show. Hope they do it again and to find a recording of it. Anyone have a set list? I remember get down, psgfys, stop trippin, dance with me, headspace.
Edit: band list https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1628725120512798&id=173346049384053
It seems like the band cycled through a few members could we get a list of all the member and when they where in the band?
