A list of puns related to "List of Baki the Grappler episodes"
Mines is baki or pickle or Ali Jr or Doyle. I would want Doyle's body
He's built better than his 13 year old self, but doppo hadn't met him yet, and he has the scars he didn't have until the maximum tournament. How old is that kid!?
I think it may be unreleased but it's one of the best pieces of music from the series that I've ever heard. It's at the end when Katsumi defeats Hanayama and he is just standing knocked out and the narrator explains the tattoo.
Jun Guevaru is definitely one of the weirdest characters in the manga to me. I mean I was just like "What? A ninja pirate Che Guevara? This is weird even for Itagaki." But as I was reading more about Sergio Oliva's history, I realized it was probably very intentional to make a communist revolutionary his main opponent before Baki.
Oliva's entire life is basically about the rejection of communism. He fought for Batista's army in his youth against the communist uprising, fled to America at the first opportunity, and then spent the rest of his life working hard, becoming larger than life, and living in excess on the fruits of his labors. A lot of this is reflected in Biscuit Oliva's "unchained" personality. His life is about freedom, about being the most free creature on the planet through his own strength (a sort of capitalist libertarian ideology)
A core debate between capitalism vs communism is freedom. Proponents of capitalism say individual choice, liberty, and access to their own property are free by definition, and anything bad that comes from that is a result of and a price of their freedom, not a sign that it doesn't exist. Communist thought submits that under capitalism most people are not in fact free; we are subservient to those who own the means of production, and only through a revolution to ultimately work towards a classless society will we finally be able to achieve true freedom.
So it's interesting to me that Jun is put forth as the "second unchained." He's also as free as Oliva, but doesn't indulge in the same kind of ultra-hedonistic lifestyle. And the fact that he has as much freedom as Oliva is the core of why they have to fight.
Then on top of that, Oliva's ultimate victory is stated by him to be due to his dedication and focus to one thing, to sticking to his muscles while Jun used a variety of moves. The idea that we all benefit by finding the thing we're best at and dedicating ourselves to that specialty is a huge piece of capitalist thought.
So it's sort of like Biscuit Oliva fighting Guevaru is actually a confrontation of the ideological clash of communism vs. capitalism. Ultimately capitalism wins (as in mainstream society it mostly has) but then Baki comes along and makes him question his beliefs by being free through a path of warrior's asceticism, telling him he's chained by the things he owns. It's this ideology that ultimately wins out in Bakiverse, and Oliva submits to it (fighting just anywhere instead of needing a sta
... keep reading on reddit β‘i started reading a few days ago on mangadex and finished everything they had. i got to the hanayama vs the kempo dude but it ended there. iβd rather not watch the anime yet cause iβve already read so far, if anyone knows where i can read the rest in english please let me know iβd love to read it. thanks
So here it is the battle of the kings. Yujiro Hanma, aka The Ogre, the strongest fighter of the Bakiverse against Raoh, aka The King of Fists, elder brother of Kenshiro and master of the most destructive incarnation of the Hokuto Shinken.
Both fighters are in character and at the peak of their power. The battle takes place in a giant arena (with Baki and Kenshiro observing from outside but obviously not intervening) and there are absolute no rules or time limit. Fight is to the death or to the complete incapacitation of the adversary, surrender is not even contemplated.
Who would claim the title of strongest of all?
Before someone tells me to check the FAQ, it looks like those fireden forum links aren't working. Is there something more up-to-date? Thanks in advance
Holy shit. So much talent from one place.
Kazuo Koike started the Gekiga Sonjuku, a college course meant to teach people how to create manga and not just how to draw it. His graduates include:
The legendary Rumiko Takahashi - Maison Ikkoku, InuYasha, Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2.
Tetsuo Hara - Fist of the Northern Star.
Keisuke Itagaki - Baki the Grappler.
Yuji Horii - Dragon Quest game series, one of the RPG greats.
It makes me feel awe seeing how many legendary figures were guided by this one (equally legendary) mentor.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazuo_Koike for more details.
Extra : Gekiga is a term meaning 'dramatic pictures', coined to differentiate itself from 'whimsical pictures' in order to emphasize maturity and strong characterization, similar to how the term 'graphic novels' differentiates itself from 'comic books'. 'Gekiga' was what Koike-san focused on teaching.
Further domino effect! Along with Super Mario Bros, Horii's Portopia inspired Hideo Kojima to join the video game industry. So without the Gekijou Sonjuku, we may have never had the Metal Gear Series!
P.S. All sources are wikipedia.
Yujiro hears about Hokuto Shinken and decides to fight its grandmaster Kenshiro. Fight takes place in a old martial arts temple. Yujiro gets all his feats
Round one - beginning of series Kenshiro
Round two - Kenshiro before Muso Tensei
Round three - End of series Kenshiro with Muso Tensei
Cause the furthest I found is like halfway first round of first tournamed around vol.24 or 21. Should I change to anime and then jump to next series or is there a super secret link somewhere?
Apparently Fireden doesn't support the /a/-board anymore. Any other possibilities to read the untranslated chapters somewhere else?
I donβt want to be super realistic I just want to have real martial art styles with some real life technique just sorta sprinkled in.
Edit: This is not a have to but I would prefer some female fighters in it.
Whenever I see people comment on here they say "What do I read next" or "How should I get into this?" and they always say that Grappler Baki's first run isn't translated all the way through so you'll have to watch the anime.
This is not the case. Although it isn't put into the actual pages themselves they all have translations. You can find them here if you want to look. The anime does actually change things from the original manga so even if you have seen the anime I would suggest you come back and read it.
