Higher learning options when your secondary school grades aren't high enough for Uni

I've got a family member who has one more year left of secondary school in Germany and they are interested in pursuing a computer science career (e.g. programmer). Unfortunately, they didn't apply themselves enough in secondary school and now their grades aren't good enough for university in Germany. I'm trying to help them figure out their options. In Germany, we're looking into Fachhochschule (applied science) to see if that would work. I guess if that doesn't work out, an ausbildung as a Softwareentwickler could be a start, although I don't know much about that.

They are open to other EU options as well when available in English or German language.

I would appreciate any advice on other options that we should look into.

How do schools verify EC hours pre/post matriculation?

I read somewhere online that a med student got kicked out 3 years in due to some falsifying. Now I’m Concerned I’ll be kicked out or rescinded for falsifying because it’s been years since I was in my volunteer programs in clllege. I know for a fact many of my programs didn’t keep good track of hours or who was there and there were a few I had to use an adviser who I never even met as a contact as there was no one else I could use. Now I’m scared my As will be rescinded or I’ll get kicked out after starting because these people won’t know me if they call to verify.

Plus I know the number I used for shadowing is a bad number. Bad as in there will be an hour or two wait time on the call to reach a receptionist who doesn’t know me and not the doctor I shadowed(I don’t have his direct line).

One adcom on SDN seems to say they’ll check hours after you decide to matriculate or even a couple years down the line which is why I’m scared now. How will they verify if these people don’t know or remember me. One my contacts literally QUIT and I used their work email and number 😭😭 to be clear I never falsified my hours. Estimated to the best of my ability and rounded up by 10-15 hours sure, but never lied.
