Just fyi. Google maps is usually accurate but today it was way off. It said the time would be 4:15 but turned out to be 7:30. 50 is slow af. Like moving at 5 mph for long stretches with many minutes of standstill. This was this afternoon because of heavy snow, but likely to be the case tomorrow

Hello all... I missed some critical exit windows and now I'm stuck in South Lake Tahoe with family and kids. Monitoring 50, 88, 4, 80 for openings. Anything else I should be doing to find a way out? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thanks for all the advice. Yes, we could have planned better and I will chalk it down to a good lesson learnt. Fortunately we have a place to stay in SLT till Tuesday morning so will try to enjoy the snow and the lake and hope for the best. But essentially will stay put until proper roads open up.

FWIW to others in the same situation, absolutely avoid any maps for directions and constantly check road closures. We spent 4 hrs on Saturday and 4 hrs on Sunday hitting road closures when Google maps and Waze kept saying we have a way out.

EDIT2 on Tuesday morning : Now I'm stuck on 50 with 20mi of backed up traffic due to jackknifed truck. Hopefully this will be cleared soon. Fun adventure.

EDIT3 (final) on Wednesday afternoon : Spent 13 hours in the car on Tuesday to get home. Many valuable lessons learnt! Thanks for all the information!

Inspired by another kind stonker, I decided to do what I can.

I realized I have a lot of comps with Eldorado/Caesars properties and Hard Rock.

I've already talked to my hosts at those casinos and they're willing to help me spread some Christmas joy.

I can't cover everyone if there are a lot of you reaching out, but I can cover food for 4-5 family members per person.

I can take care of Christmas dinner/lunch for a total of 5 3 families from Hard Rock in Lake Tahoe off the menu at Alpine Union, or if only a couple reach out we can get them from Prime.

I can take care of a total of 4 2 from Harvey's or Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

I can take care of a total of 8 2 from Eldorado/Silver legacy.

I know this is a long shot, since these are smaller areas.

This doesn't have to be today or tomorrow.

I can do it until midnight on the 31st.

If you've got family in need PM me.

I just will need a first name/last initial to give my host and the number of dinners.

No pictures, no bullshit, we will keep it anonymous.

You don't have to tell your family anything outside of you picking up food.

I've been following CalTrans district 3 on Twitter consistently and reading all the incidents really puts into perspective how bad it is out there at the moment.

Hey all! Myself and a couple friends are staying in state line for 5 days (m-f) coming out soon driving from Sac area. I’ve been up to north Tahoe a couple times, just wanted some south advice.

We are planning on hitting heavenly mostly, so any advice on that mountain would be greatly appreciated. From what I’ve read navigating that mountain can be complex. We got one skier and 3 boarders, we’re all advanced and love some good black diamonds.

Any suggestions on local food or other things to do would be great too!
