Sure enough as soon as I dropped the needle, my eardrums were hit with that unsettling surface noise and a hackle-raising skitch every rotation. I left it on anyway as I was doing household things. But by the end of the first track the noise and static anomalies disappear and don’t noticeably return for the remainder of the album. I’m not sure how normal it is for that type of thing to be present only for 1 track (or a portion thereof) rather than the whole disk, but I’m thinking for ~$12 I can put up with the annoyance for half of a track.
Your mileage may vary, but wanted to report back on my experience.
